INTERNAL REVENUE SERVICE (IRS): Proposes a change that would lower the reporting rules for casino customer winnings.
The suggested move is to reduce the trigger from the current $1,200 to $600 on jackpots from slot machines, video poker, and bingo. The present amount from Keno, that you have the annoying wait to fill out the IRS forms is $1,500, which under the IRS proposal will also be reduced to $600. The problem is that when someone hits a jackpot, the machine locks up until IRS forms are filled out and the game is reset. The IRS set a deadline of June 2nd for the casino industry to respond to the proposed action. We are all opposed to the change. The official IRS proposal is at:
    https://www.federalregister.gov/articles/2015/03/04/2015-04437/information-returns-winnings-from-bingo-keno-and-slot-machines

MADAME TUSSAUDS: Opened Miley Cyrus exhibit.

MEDICAL MARIJUANA: KTNV reports that the first medical marijuana dispensary in Las Vegas is staffed and ready for business, but there is no marijuana to sell yet.
Euphoria Wellness is located on Jones Blvd. near Robindale Road, in the southwest part of Las Vegas. They had a grand opening ribbon cutting ceremony last week. They've been ready for business for months, but have no marijuana to sell because the crop has not been approved by the State of Nevada. The wait for state approval on pot crops could be anywhere from weeks to months. Medical marijuana became legal in Nevada back in 2000.
A reader reports that he applied for a Nevada Medical Marijuana Card, with the proper Application Form and Doctor's Certificate of his need for pain relief. He sent all that in June, 2014 and he has not received even an acknowledgement of receipt. Since the DMV (Department of Motor Vehicles) is in charge of issuing his Nevada Medical Marijuana Card, he could be waiting years instead of months. In the meantime the reader suffers!

MIRAGE: Bare Pool Lounge opened for the season, featuring European-style sunbathing (topless). Featured are spicy Bloody Marys and an array of flavored mojitos. Available are five newly remodeled cabanas, eight VIP beds, eight daybeds, four VIP tables, 48 chaise lounge chairs and two luxury dipping pools.

NHL HOCKEY IN LAS VEGAS: The season ticket drive has now reached over 9,000 deposits on season tickets. The goal was 10,000 and the final tally looks like 11,000 or 12,000.
The Las Vegas metropolitan area population has now topped more than two million, which is roughly on par with NHL cities like Columbus and exceeds that of Raleigh, Nashville and Buffalo. Consequently, NHL hockey will be coming to Las Vegas and will be the first professional sports team to be in Nevada. The team will be playing in the new$375 million arena MGM Resorts is building behind the Monte Carlo and New York-New York casinos. Opening in the spring of 2016, the Las Vegas NHL professional hockey team franchise will play their 41 home games in the arena, which would hold 17,500 seats for hockey. The start looks like the October,2016 hockey season. The official announcement that Las Vegas has been awarded a franchise could come during the NHL Awards show on June 24th. Two-thirds of the NHL's current ownership must approve an expansion franchise.
The first name I have heard for the team is the Las Vegas Black Aces. More info. at: www.VegasWantsHockey.com

The Sirens Cove Lagoon, in front of the Treasure Island Hotel, has been drained to make way for this shopping center. The free Sirens of TI show has closed. The previous Pirate show is missed.

UNITED AIRLINES: Started awarding frequent flyer points based on how much you paid for your ticket instead of miles traveled.
URBAN TURBAN RESTAURANT: Opened at 3900 Paradise Road between Flamingo and Sands, serving Indian food. More info, at:
    http:/www.urbanturbanlv.com
VENETIAN: Martin & MacArthur (all kinds of stuff made from Koa wood) opened a retail store in the Grand Canal Shoppes.
WET 'N' WILD: The water park at 7055 Ft. Apache Road, in the northwest section of Las Vegas, started a new season. A new ride is the world’s first slideboarding attraction. It’s a slide that integrates (video)-gaming skill. It’s basically like “Guitar Hero,” the way you have to play it when you see those red or green notes. You’ll be in a slide on the raft. There’ll be buttons, and you have to push them according to the light that comes on while you’re on the path. There’ll be different levels, and the better your score, the more your level goes up. You’ll be able to check scores online. The concept has not been done anywhere else in the world.

LAS VEGAS JOKE OF THE MONTH:
    ============================
You've all heard of the Air Force's ultra-high-security, super-secret base in Nevada, known simply as "Area 51"?
Well, late one afternoon, the Air Force, out at Area 51, were very surprised to see a Cessna landing at their "secret" base. They immediately impounded the aircraft and hauled the pilot into an interrogation room. The pilot's story was that he took off from Las Vegas, got lost, and spotted the Base just as he was about to run out of fuel. The Air Force started a full FBI background check on the pilot and held him overnight during the investigation.
By the next day, they were finally convinced that the pilot really was lost and wasn't a spy. They gassed up his airplane, gave him a terrifying "you-did-not-see-a-base" briefing, complete with threats of spending the rest of his life in prison, told him Las Vegas was that-a-way on such-and-such a runway, and sent him on his way.
The next day, to the total disbelief of the Air Force, the same Cessna showed up again. Once again, the MP's surrounded the plane ... only this time there were two people in the plane.
The same pilot jumped out and said, "Do anything you want to me, but my wife is in the plane and you have to tell her where I was last night!"=====================================================

CAESARS PALACE: Elton John walked off the stage twice during a recent concert. He threw a Hissy Fit and came back next night.

That would make me very unhappy if I'd been at one of his shows when he walked out. Tickets aren't cheap and even if comped arranging my evening around a special event, it would be a major disappointment.
