I just turned down a contract position that would have netted me about $20k. Would have gone from next week until the end of July or August. Main reason I turned it down was because I would have had to cancel our spring trip to Vegas. Also would lose the best part of summer in Wisconsin and no time with my grandson. Damn that hurts but I'm a degenerate and couldn't give up my trip.

Just looking for a little sympathy from like minded folks LOL.

Edit: Hey look! I made it to High-Roller!!

    20k for 5 months?

    Good for you.

Sounds like it wasn't that great to begin with.

Well for me that's not bad. To some of you folks it's chicken feed I know. Part of the problem is I lose some SS after I make over $15k that's why I said net. Worst part is I would have liked the project I think.

    Priorities priorities.

Obviously it depends on what you're doing, how long, how hard, etc, etc.

But at least now you're free to pick up something even better!

Be thankful you have options... it shows you put priority on taking time for yourself AND grandson! Good for you! I'm sure you'll keep the bills paid. What's that saying? "nobody's tombstone ever read, I wish I'd spent more time at work!"

Yeah I take my Vay-Cay's pretty serious too! And I usually have them scheduled well in advance!
But I really don't think you're down $20K at all. Remember - Don't count your chickens before they hatch!

Yeah me too... but they never seem all that happy and from my perspective, most seem to thrive on quantity of hours over quality of the time they put in. I truly enjoy working with the younger generation, they VALUE their personal time and make the most of it. The older group like me calls them lazy and undriven, but they've got the right idea standin' at the elevator at 5!!!

If you're attitude and performance is consistent with "git-r-done", I'm with you. If you are skating by and not carrying your weight, you need to contribute or get shit canned. Period.

Face time / time in the office does not equate to performance. Some people are efficient / very efficient and have a consistent solid performance and they are the employees to value. Some people BS all day, and then stay late (and will typically bitch or brag about it) to take care of the tasks they should have finished earlier in the day (or the morning).

If it ran through the end of August, you would have missed ALL of summer in Wisconsin!

Exactly! Actually we get 9 months of Winter and 3 months of bad sledding.
