I just received an email from the Golden Nugget regarding my upcoming reservation. The email offers me the "opportunity" to reserve a chaise lounge at the Hideout pool for $40 per person. (There are 2 of us, so we are looking at $80.)

Considering the fact that the base rate on my Rush Tower room was $79, I'm finding it hard to choke down the $80 fee to sit at the Hideout pool, especially given the fact that I'll probably spend all of two hours at the pool on each day of my stay. On the other hand, I don't get much vacation time. I don't want to be fighting for a chair at the pool or surrounded by shrieking kiddies. I have no status with the GN casino, so there is no hope of getting a comp.

For those of you who have used the Hideout pool, would you suggest paying the $80 to reserve the chaise lounges? Also, if you could explain the pros/cons of the Hideout pool, that would help me make my decision.

The place gets jammed. So it you want a lounge that is your best option. You are paying for the convenience and the guarantee. You may score one on your own and you may not. If you are a late sleeper or arrival you likely will not.

Have they jacked up the prices again? The first time I went there it was $20, awesome. Second time was $25, still OK. I'd still do it at $40 because it's still a bargain compared to the strip. It's adults only up there. Much more quiet. Good service. No ********* (unless I'm there). Private potty. I'm a well known cheapskate and I'd still do it.

Hideout pool is kid free so it might be worth spending the dough.

I forgot to mention the no kids thing. That is a huge plus for me as well.

They sure have jacked the prices. I think it was 25 bucks just last year. I noticed on the gn website many things have changed regarding the pools. Hideout used to be 16+, instead it's now 21. It also used to be open late. Now closed at 7 pm. Also no mention of non hotel guests paying extra to get in. That and the sporadic use of a card reader late last year to see if your hotel key was valid.

Over all I personally don't have issues with any of these changes.

$40? I hate to pay that much for my room!

Unless they've changed this policy also, the hideaway pool is free after 5 pm. That's when I usually head up there, but haven't used the pools since last year.

I understand paying for cabanas or other amenities but for a chair...? Not me.

Lol. If a pool is that crowded then I'll pass. When we want pool time we usually go when it opens at 9 (most open at 9, some at other times). Have a drink or two to start the day, soak up some sun and get on the rest of the planned activities :)

Thanks for the replies. Am I to understand that if an unreserved chaise is available at the time you arrive, that an adult GN guest can use the Hideout pool without paying a fee? Or is there a fee for securing an unreserved chaise upon arrival (if available), that is less than the $40 they charge to reserve one in advance?

Last year, you couldn't enter the Hideout unless you had a reserved chair, daybed , or cabana. no free entry. I would expect it to be the same this year.

I don't know if it's $40 valuable, but when I stayed at the GN (4 years ago? 5? Wow...), it was about $20, and I thought it was definitely worth it. It was only half full that day, no kids, good service, etc. Only better relaxing pool experience I've had was two days I spent at the Rio topless pool. But that's another story. Are they asking $40 per person per day? Or are they offering you this for the length of your stay?

Rates are per person, per day. Following the links in the email, I took the reservation process all the way up to the point where a credit card was to be entered to seal the deal. The total quote for two people, for three days was $240.00. My stay at the Nugget is followed by three nights at Red Rock where (presumably) quiet lounge chairs are readily available for free at their expansive pool, so it's hard to choke this down.

I am an early riser, so I could easily make it to the pool at opening time. I think I"ll use that strategy on the first day and see if I can find a chair amongst the hoi polloi. I'll stay until the inevitable shrieking begins or until I've hear the word "like" or "dude" enough to make me want to pack up. If that proves to be too much to bear, I"ll pop for the $80 on the second day.

Last year, the fee was $25. I did it for one day in order to have a comfortable, quiet, kid free pool experience. Another day, I got up early and stalked the shark pool area till I found and empty chair in the sun. They fill up early and quickly. Luckily, the noise doesn't seem to start till around noon. I think $40 is quite high. I would have to seriously think about it.

I'll ask. Is the eye candy there later in the day worth it?

Several years back when this section opened, I was still a regular at the GN. The few times I concluded my meetings early to take advantage of "pool-time", I was out there around 2 p.m. and while "worth-it" is certainly subjective. I thought so. It's not Hard Rock, Encore Beach Club or Cosmo level IMHO, but the whole vibe of this area (Hideout) was up my ally.

Is it a flat $40 fee or is it like cabanas where you have to either pay the money or buy a minimum of $40 in food and beverages. B/c it would not be had to hit the $40 if you order a few drinks or a couple buckets of beer.

Either way, as others mentioned, GN pool does get packed and it might be worth having those designated chairs.

It's a flat fee. $40 per person per day gets you a chair. That's it. Add a few $12 drinks and I'm spending $200 to sit at the pool. That's a waste of perfectly good gambling money, if you ask me. :evillaugh
