OK, so, besides gambling, WTF is in Laughlin?

Maybe the wrong forum, if so, my apologies.

OK, the offers are starting ro "roll in" now that I've made CET Diamond.

I got an offer from Laughlin that includes airfare. The question I've been trying to answer is:

Other than gambling, what else is there to do in Laughlin?

Any answers appreciated.

 

Well, there used to be a kind of interesting feral cat colony there.

 

Go when it's semi-warm (not HOT) and enjoy the Colorado River (rent a jet ski, etc)

 

I've seen some good comedy and small sorts of entertainment. Once I saw a great Sinatra imitator.
The river is there and it is pretty at night to walk along it and watch the lights and the boats.
In the daytime you can watch the carp along the river, but you can't feed them anymore.
Some like the easy access to an In and Out Burger place. I don't get the draw, but there is one right there.
The live poker 2-6 spread limit is an interesting game. It is very common and some of the bonus offers are great. Cracked Aces is more common there. The riverside right now has some sessions in which some Cracked Aces pays $300. Sometimes the games are too dominated by locals.

Generally, to like Laughlin you have to like very laid back and quiet except for the motorcycle events. If you are older than 60, it helps. The pools are small and there will be more kids than bikinis.
Since Grandma's stopped the Sunday buffet at the Pioneer there has not been much of a food place to recommend. The buffets are small and cheap and very average. Not gourmet dishes, but priced comfortably.
One way to check it out is to take a one day bus ride which generally is cheap or nearly free.

What else could you possibly need besides gambling??

I visit Laughlin at least 6 times per year (I am not even 30 yet, so I definitely don't fit the demographic). I go there specifically to gamble, drink, relax, and sleep cheaply. I do nothing else unless a family member is there with their boat during the summer.

The place has a much slower and relaxed feel than Vegas. It's main benefit is that you are not constantly being price-gouged on food/beverage/room and ripped off by the awful gambling conditions on the strip. It's much easier to get comps too.

The problem if you are staying at Harrah's is that you can't easily walk to the rest of the Laughlin "strip". You can take the water taxis for a small fee per trip, which can be fun. The water taxis stop at some point during the night though.

 

I worked in Bullhead City, AZ across the river for a few months and the big thing is the water activities on the river. A couple of coworkers owned boats, so we would go out on the river and up to One of the lakes, Lake Mead I think. I took a few trips out to Vegas while I lived there, so I don't think it can offer you much.

 

Gambling is fun in Laughlin.

Many bars that overlook the river with bartop VP.
The bar at Edgewater has over 100 different bottled beers.

New outdoor music stage/bar and grill area at the Colorado Belle.
It can get loud and fun weekend nights.

The old Losers Lounge bar/nightclub still rocks at Riverside. It's been there forever, and caters to the younger crowd, but I can hang there for a couple of hours........
They've been remodeling much of the Riverside lately. It's a fun casino.

River taxis run all day and until 11PM weekends.
Go to all Laughlin casinos.

$15 all day pass

For good home cookin' eats with huge portions a-la Peppermill, cross the river and down the road just a mile or two in Bullhead City is Black Bear Diner.
We go to breakfast there each Laughlin trip.

Rent a jet ski on the river during the summer. It is a blast.

Or, what we like to do....drive down to Lake Havasu, about an hour's drive, and spend the day there.
See the London bridge. Hang a bit in the village.
Rent everything from jet skis, ski boats, pontoon boats, etc....spend the day out on the lake.
Pack a cooler with lunch and beverages.
Eye candy galore.
The lake is huge, and you can go in any direction and have a piece of the shoreline or hidden cove to yourself.

Oatman is a cool 45 min drive side trip, you'll only need a couple of hours there to see everything.

Laughlin isn't Vegas, but it's fun little alternative and a slower change of pace.

Oh, and there is absolutely NO dress code.
Swim trunks, or shorts, tank top and flip flops will get you in everywhere.

 

Having just moved from Los Angeles to Springfield, IL this is how I see it. After we moved here, we started receiving these offers weekly. If we go, it will be arrive at the airport, check in, and drive to Vegas. I am wondering if we stay at a non CET property and then gamble 8-12 hrs a day at CET (Vegas), if they will stop sending the offer?

As a kid I remember seeing a bunch of huge fish in the river next to the Colorado Belle.

Most of those huge carp are gone now, thanks to the quaga muscle infecting the entire river system and taking up all the oxygen. You can still see them sometimes, but rarely more than one or two. I used to enjoy watching them too

 

Resort fee has come to Laughlin. March 3/15 Harrah's now charges about $8.50. Remember when Imperial Palace started at $10.; now same hotel $25. Same Caesars group owns Harrah's Laughlin.
No other hotel resort fees, so far. I spent 4 months per year in Lauglin.
Go 4-wheeling up in the mountains. It is a beautiful adventure. Go to the old Route 66 town of Oatman and see the wild burros.
