Thanks again for all the answers in my other thread about the gym at Aria. I've definitely decided I'm going to book Aria for either the weekend of 4/17 or 4/25 but I have one more question about security. How is security in terms of checking room keys at the elevators especially at night? I'm going to be solo so I'm thinking of just a standard room this time but I'm not 100% decided on that.
Security at the elevators is basically to keep an eye on potential trouble, not really to check keys. You can flash anything at them as long as you're not acting like an asshole.
I've always had a room key ready in my hand when I walk by, in the event they make eye contact. They often just nod or smile, and that's it. It's typically one person, so they can't check every person during a rush. Like the previous poster said, it's meant to weed out anybody sketchy. Late at night or when it's real slow, they're much more proactive on room key checks.
Though someone could probably get through without a real room key, they still are the most alert of all the key-checkers I've encountered.
last year when we played in the Aria, we approached the security guy next to elevators to ask a question and he was asking everybody trying to get to the elevators for a room key, this was around 11pm
I feel a bit better than they do check more at night but I'm not sure if I'm 100% comfortable. I have had 2 different experiences in Vegas where men I didn't know, and never spoke to, started following me so I'm maybe a little more nervous than I should be. I considered the Sky Suites, just trying to decide if that's overkill.
I've stayed at Aria multiple times solo and feel more safe there then I have at other properties. I do agree that they check the keys more closely at night..
I've stayed solo at Aria many times and in my opinion it's very safe. They do check for keys 24 hours a day but it's possible that someone might sneak past in a crowd and it's also possible that someone who might follow you would have a room key and be staying at Aria. I would just use common sense if you suspect someone is following you and go back to the security person checking for keys and either wait for the person you are suspicious of to leave the area or if that person lingers around and doesn't use a room elevator immediately tell security you want someone to escort you to your room.
Thanks everyone. I feel much better about booking Aria now, and I would certainly go to security if I feel the need.
My experience staying at Aria is that the security guards were pretty vigilant about checking for keys, but being that the hallways are curved, I felt less safe walking to my room as I have at other properties. The worst feeling is at NYNY where they don't check key cards at all and there are many turns throughout the hallways. You see interesting things happening in their hallways.
I agree, there was always someone checking keys when I was there. If you feel awkward going to your room alone, let them know, I'm sure they can spare someone for 5 minutes to escort you. You are paying a "resort fee" after all!
Stayed there a number of times, on one occasion I was a little, tried to use my Mlife card,,,, not a chance she was going to let me thru.
Last summer some friends of mine who were staying at a different hotel tried to come up to the room but could not until I came down to get them. This was in the middle of the day.
