I've posted about out of control gambling before but have you ever hit rock bottom? It happened to me in Macau after losing all of money and tapping out all of my cards. I had to wait until the morning to get some more cash only to realize I didn't take into account the time change. That's when
I knew I hit rock bottom. No cash in a foreign country due to gambling.

I think if you hit rock bottom that means you stop gambling.

If you don't stop you haven't hit bottom.

It all depends on what you consider rock bottom. I got robbed at gunpoint taking money out of my WaMu account. What do I do after? Go to a payday loan place to get money to go to Bay 101 . That's when I knew I had hit rock bottom and stopped gambling for a long time. We're creatures of habit. I had to train myself to manage my bankroll better and set limits. If you think you're unable to quit, try to cut your trips down and only take a set amount with you. Leave your wallet at home.

You beat me to it lol
No alexb7 you havent, wait untill you start going into debt to keep on gambling. I mean real debt.
when your salary goes into your acount and it doesnt cover your overdraught and and well you get the idea

Been there done that  Stopped playing for years after i realised it was waaaay out of control.
Now I have a disposable income I allow myself to "play" again.
I keep my powder dry all year, baring the occasional lotto or scratchie, so I can go to Vegas and do it properly

Yeah I'm close to that point and want to stop before it gets there. In debt for about $170,000 right now but I make 6 figures.

The only rule you need to follow in gambling: only gamble with money you can afford to lose. Never go into debt to support gambling.

If you don't know 3 months out what you can afford to lose, you're not doing it right.

It takes a trigger alexb7, something that just pulls you away and makes you look at yourself from the outside.

If you, god forbid, lost your 6 figure job imagine the sh1t storm that would result in having to pay back that debt. I cant posibly know what that would involve for you but i had the forsight, luck, to see it coming in time. Managed to get my sh1t together just before the co. i worked for went under, cleared my debts but found myself lost.
Took a year out to travel South East Asia and the Australasias, busmans holiday lol, and "found" myself again.

What that trigger is going to be for you, if it even comes, who knows. But I hope it happens before things go to a point that is terribly hard to come back from.
I found the "RUSH" of the win harder and harder to achieve and thought playing for higher and higher stakes was the answer.....WRONG!!! I was getting hooked on the downers from losing.

Like PayTriple says only gamble with the money you can afford to lose, BUT be honest with yourself, are you enjoying these losses? They can be conversly addictive.
I dont mean to preach it's just I have been there, kinda, peaked over the edge and said fuck that!!!!

I see your next trip is 41 days for the fight. Try making the trip without gambling. Test yourself, it won't be easy

Thanks for all the advice everyone. Next Vegas trip is actually in 13 days (booked because I couldn't wait so long). Yeah I will definitely try not gambling this next trip. I can pay off all the debt in 2 years and still maintain my lifestyle. I've said it before but today is the day I stop gambling.

You might want to consider forgoing your trip and taking a two year hiatus from gambling. I'm sure you have credit lines everywhere so avoiding gambling in Vegas is going to incredibly hard for you. If I was trying to quit drinking, I wouldn't want to take a trip to Cabo with friends. Sorry if that comes off as preachy.

Easy to say, not as easy to do. It's an addiction. I'm with FXT on this one but good luck with it all the same

Good luck but no chance dude.

    I know the feeling.

There's a lot of us degens on this board.

    My title isn't a joke.

I know well enough to know you're not going to quit.

But you need to keep it under control.

Only one credit line per trip.

Leave the credit/debit cards in the safe in the room.

Break up your gambling with other activities.

Degens love the chase, which is dangerous.

When we chase and don't get out of the trap, there's the walk of shame back to the room and then beating yourself up.

    It's not worth it.

That's why my brother failed trying to quit drinking the first time. All his buddies and even his now ex-wife who wanted him to quit in the first place were still drinking around him.

    Best of luck alex.

+1 - Totally agree here. Gambling problems start with ones inability to disseminate between disposable income and non-disposable income. If you play with money that you can't afford to play with wether your winning or loosing it is still a problem.

I know the ups and downs from the chase. Nothing better than coming back from deep in the hole. But the feeling when you lose big and realize how much money you're throwing around is the worst. It seriously is a mental illness. I don't even get excited unless I'm playing a $100 minimum table and even then I don't play the minimum.

Desensitizing to the bet levels is a dangerous slope for sure. I learned that back in my online poker days. And I'm a loss chaser at heart. I sometimes give money to the g/f on trips because I don't want the temptation to chase out of a losing streak.
