We just signed up on a Norwegian cruise and are wondering what the casinos are like? Anyone have information on slots and VP payouts? How tight the machines are?

We signed up through Casinos at Sea so they will expect us to play some.

    Thanks in advance

I've been on a couple of NCL cruises. The casinos are small, but with an assortment of tables. Sorry, no idea on VP payouts. Casino at Seas assumption is that you will play. If you don't play or play light, any future offer from them will be affected. I think that for your first cruise with them, their offer (cabin type) will be based on your CET play. After you have history with them, their offers are based on your play on NCL. You earn credit for comps etc through play.

Had a friend who went on these and I asked him to check out the VP paytables. 8/5 and 7/5 JOB, minimum $1. Also a decent selection of penny slots to choose from.

The original poster in this Wizard of Vegas thread about 18 months ago said the best he could find for VP was 30/6/5 Bonus (96.18%). You can probably assume all slots are set near the manufacturer's minimum for each game, which for IGT is often 85% for penny slots. If you can find 8/5 DDB or better, I'd consider it a win.

Thanks for the feedback. We will probably try VP and slots to start but if the play is as bad as my recent AC trip I will switch to black jack. With so many ports and other activities I am not sure how much play they can expect.

Yes my trip is set up based on my CET play and the guy setting up the trip said play like you do in Vegas for future trips. Too many other things to spend that much time in casino

My first NCL cruise, I was a mid level Diamond and I was given a balcony cabin. I'm a 7 Star now, but only offered an inside cabin with Casinos at Sea. I don't play nearly as much on the ship as I do in Vegas.

That is fine with me as we won't be going on many cruises anyway.

I'm a big VP player and I don't play any VP on the cruises. !and certainly don't play slots.

Craps is the same as other casinos and blackjack was decent. I would stick to the table games.

Regarding the 7 stars player, he is able to get a balcony room once a year on the 7 stars status alone.

Originaly I planned to use the seven star balony benefit but got sucked into the free room and can use the balcony one later. I have three other cabins so might have gotten mixed up on the best value. Overall, we are getting a great overall rate with all the add ins. I hope my wife and I can use the seven star benefit later.

So unlimited dinners for DW and I, free casino drink cards for everyone over 21 and a bit of room charge for the other rooms.'

    Thoughts????

It doesn't look like TR is going to offer cruises for the seven stars signature events. Who knows if the 7 stars cruise benefit will be offerred in 2015. We'll have to wait until April 1st to see what changes have been made.

That's correct. No more cruises for the 7-stars event, but you still get the "free" (taxes only) NCL cruise for being 7-stars.

Sands - I'm not sure what your question is. A free cruise, unlimited dinners and a casino drink card is good. I just fear it's costing you too much, especially if you use the machines in the casino.

Sorry I wasn't clear, actually reading back I am not sure what my question was. Wife and I have free cruise based on CET play, son has the CET cruise offer so I am paying the room charge and tax for two cabins and paying for the other two cabins. Checking NCL.Com, my price is cheaper than NCL.com (if you pay taxes on two and full price on the other two). On top of that he threw in ultimate dinner package for wife and I as well as casino drink package for all adults. So I feel like I got a good deal if I don't lose too much in the casino. I will take everone's advise and stick with table games, mostly blackjack although I haven't played much the last few years.

Time to practice, particularly the double downs and splits.

    Thanks,

I just got off the Norwegian Dawn yesterday as part of my 7 Stars trip. Had a balcony cabin and paid about $250 each for port fees and taxes. I have also done the free cruise with Royal Caribbean from MLife and that one is better because you get 60 minutes free internet and 10 free drink coupons as well as other stuff like chocolates and strawberries in your room.

The VP pay tables are as bad as you will find anywhere. 6/5 JOB and BP 8/5/4/3/1/1. Also some of the BJ tables pay 6/5 on BJs and the craps layout offers the Big 6 and 8 and also does not pay 3x on the Field bet 2 or 12.

I almost never play in casinos on cruise ships and could care less what any host thinks about that.

I cruise Norwegian through CAS frequently. I primarily play slots and have had more hand pays at sea than on land - go figure.

Their VP seems to be better than Carnival, Celebrity or HAL, but still pretty bad, especially at the quarter level.

The casinos on the Breakaway and Getaway and pretty large and have a decent selection of slots.

Depending on the itinerary and ship, offers will vary significantly. If you choose a very popular cruise, you are less likely to be offered a balcony or above.

I hope you mean Double Bonus with the 8/5/4/3/1/1 paytable (94.18%)...8/5/4/3/1/1 Bonus (86.31%) takes some real balls to offer! The crappiest bonus paytable I've seen in a real casino is 10/8/5/3/1/1 (also 94.18%).

When we were on the NCL Dawn back in December I only saw about 12 VP machines and they all had 6/5 job, 6/5bp, and 6/5ddb. Yet they stayed full most of the cruise. I guess it was so full because there were 500 7 star members plus their guests on this cruise. Avoided the casino as I get enough action the rest of the year at regular casinos.

That is too bad there will be no 7 star event cruises this year. The one we did in Dec. was probably the best cruise we have ever been on. They literally paid for everything. If I was to guess by the time CET finished paying for our balcony cabins, port taxes, gratuities, specialty dinners, unlimited beverage package, free luggage set, and everything else they paid for they spent a minimum $5000 on me and my wife. I know just for the unlimited drink package we kept some of our drink receipts and if we would of had to pay it would have been easily over $1000. My host said they are planning on bringing the event cruises back next year. I sure hope so as we are already over half way to 7 star again. I guess a lot is going to depend on how they navigate through the bankruptcy.
