I heard about this place at work so thought I'd start a thread to answer any questions you may have about the place so we can all reminisce a little. I've been there a few years as a manager but am not an exec. I'd like to stay anonymous so won't say anything that might out me and obviously nothing I say is an official Riviera statement.

do you remember Marvin that worked at the Splash Bar? He was a Vegas classic. First met him when he was at the Dunes...

Cool to see you hear, and sorry the Riv is closing. Is there any kind of plan in place to take care of the employees and get some of them positions elsewhere?

How is morale there? Morale seemed bleak there 5 years ago.

They are having on-site job fairs with most of the major casinos in town present. The unionized people may have some kind of direct placement kind of thing but not sure.

Big difference in morale since the new management team took over about 1.5 years ago. Most everyone is taking things in stride since the announcement has been made. You see a few people who are now clearly just showing up to get a pay check but not as many as I would have thought.

Were there internal rumblings about a possible sale or closure or did this all come as a complete shock to most employees? Have you enjoyed working there? In this day and age, are there still customers/players who are loyal to the Riv?

Sorry to hear the Riv is closing, best wishes to yourself and and the rest of the crew on finding new opportunities.

The Riv was in great position for a couple of huge weeks during the Rock'n Rio events in May. Do you have any insight on the timing of the closure, why didn't they stay open for the Rock'n Rio events?

I think the sale aspect wasn't a HUGE shock because there have been lots of rumors and transitions throughout the years but the closure was a complete shock. I definitely have enjoyed working there. Much more like a family than other, more corporate, places I've worked. Of course we know other customers spend time other places but yes, there are many, many loyal customers who have been coming regularly for decades.

No idea how they chose that chose the 4th as the last day. It doesn't seem to me that the LVCVA is particularly interested in maximizing dollars from the things we are seeing. Seems like they just want to get their hands on the building and get construction started ASAP.

Will crazy girls be relocated to another casino or will it just be shutting down?

My wife was there with her girlfriends last week. She said they bailed after dealing with a handful of staff who clearly did not care anymore. She's being very vocal in advising people we know not to go to the Riviera as it heads for closure.

Though I'm sure there are still many staff who will operate with pride right up until the doors close... does this really surprise anyone? Mediocrity reigns in our society on the best of days and some will take any opportunity to sink even lower.

The owner of the show (it's outsourced) said he is moving the show but no other details.

    - - - Updated - - -

Not sure. I heard that there were some disputes about who the actual owner is (show owner vs casino).

When you are an agency with a license to print money and not accountable to anyone, logic, reason, and stewardship are replaced by greed, gluttony and avarice.

Sorry the Riviera is closing, It was the first place I stayed in Vegas (my first two trips), and I have had a good time there over the years. Hope all goes well for you and your co-workers.

Was there any sense of the possibility of Riviera holding on for a few more years to see what the impact of Resorts World would have to the North Strip? Riviera and SLS need people from Mid-South Strip to inhabit the North. Genting will be putting in a preview of the site soon, it may be finally getting busy once again with the cranes and bulldozers.
Is it too little too late?
Perhaps if we didn't have a recession in 2008-10, and Genting or Boyd went ahead with the original plans, the Riviera, SLS, and the North Strip would be thriving and once again feeling wanted by the general public.
Also, and this probably won't happen, but the Bronze Butts should be placed at Rio. Butts and babes are synonymous with Ipinema Beach and Rio....LOL.
