I play mostly table games, and some occasional VP. Never gave it much thought, but, recently, I noticed a countdown timer that shows a number that is either increasing or decreasing (can't remember which). What is it used for?

If you're talking about Caesars properties, it's the number of cents you have to bet to earn the next Tier Credit.

its not actually on the VP or Slot screen itself, its in the little LED screen or small video screen where you put your card; as Chuck said, its recording your coin in for your their credits, max bet on single line 25cent VP (5 coins) you will notice it goes up or down by 125, until it gets to the comp rate, then it resets and counts again, your tier credits should move up accordingly and are often listed next to it.

Great explanation. Never had a clue what it was used for. Thanks for the feedback.
