Today I tried booking a room for the big fight weekend.......... Needless to say the RATES are through the roof! Friday and saturday at Monte Carlo was over $1600...... I wonder since tickets haven't gone on sale yet. Once some see the ticket prices.... Do you think the room prices will drop?
Thought it had already sold out but looks like you're right. I can't imagine Monte Carlo keeping prices that high.
I don't think they're on sale yet. I had to change my existing flight reservation because I couldn't get a comped room anywhere in Vegas for May 1. MC was $1600 and all my normal downtown properties were north of 300 with no option for comp or casino rate. the hosts basically apologized and said it's a crazy weekend. so. I'm now headed out there a day earlier and coming back on May 1. not gonna fight the fight, and not gonna pay for a room that is free on Thursday and $600 on Friday!
Prices are more than likely gonna go up before they go down because with less and less rooms being available there will be a higher demand.
I'm flying in the day after the flight and rates are high for that day (Sunday) too. I guess a lot of people are sticking around. Fortunately I booked before the fight was announced.
Most people aren't coming into town to actually see the fight in person, so the ticket prices won't affect hotel demand/pricing.
I've noticed the rate issue for a couple of weeks. Then Thursday's rates went way up as well. Now, Harrah's Wednesday night is triple what Sun.-Tues. is. Wonder why that is?
Something I've never seen before: There are no first class seats available on Delta flying out Thurs before the fight. None all day, all flights.
Prices may come down if too many people are scared away. I recall this happening on 12/31/99. Hotels were surprised that not very many people wanted to pay $2000 per night. Also, if you didn't already know, you can't just walk into a casino sports book to watch on tv. You have to buy a ticket to a closed circuit viewing party, which will probably start at $100. Pay per view is probably blacked out in vegas but I don't know for sure. Considering they were selling tix to watch the super bowl (which IS free to watch anywhere) for north of that, I suppose the prices of those could be much more. The smart money stays the week before, makes their bets, watches on tv back in the comfort of their own home, and mails in a winning ticket (with the proper security precautions) or collects on their next visit. Or, you could try to unload a ticket from a scalper during round 3 outside the mgmgg and hope you didn't miss the knockout (and got a valid ticket)....
crazy room prices! I had to adjust my trip because I wasn't going to pay for a room on Friday night and no one would comp it! so.. M-F it is..
I am starting to worry myself, I booked a comp room at cosmo and also Palazzo for the Wed - Sat, before the fight was finalized, I am hoping I do not get shanked by them pulling my comp. Needless to say it will determine if I ever step foot in either place again. Supply and demand rules everything..
