Do we have any Pai Gow players out there? What do you like about playing Pai Gow? Do you typically play the Fortune Bonus? Bet big or small?

Usually play while I have some big sports bets out because you can sit their for a long time with little to no damage. Bet "bigger" starting at $25 and pressing frequently after wins. Don't play fortune because the house advantage is 7.77% unless you play $5 for envy and have more players at the table which decreases the house advantage .93% for each additional player so a full table could get it down to 2.19%. I have no luck with it though so I still rarely play. Best I've hit is 4 deuces for $125 and envy on a 7 card straight flush for $250. Rather make the money on the actual game with a house advantage of 1.47%.

I like to play PaiGow at a full table, $5 on the main bet and $5 on the Fortune. Lotta fun for a little money.
    Keep the drinks coming!

I love the game, with a nice full table, lots of talk usually. I usually will play $20 to start on the play bet then take half the winnings for the next hand and so on....I always play the fortune, though I know it is typically a loosing bet.

Love it, you can play for hours with low volatility. I played in the lotus room at MB for 8 hours straight one day at an average of $250 a hand and won a grand total of $10, which I tipped to the dealer. The plus side was I got drunk off my ass for free!

Love pai gow! It's a relatively slow paced game and somewhat social. I am addict to the Fortune bet ever since I hit 5 Aces for 2k at Flamingo.

I love that you can bank if you have bankroll. Adds a fun twist.

I do play pai gow at times. I usually play 2 hands which is my preference at a few hundred per hand each and anywhere from 50-100 on the envy. The envy bonus is what I'm usually playing/hoping for. Great game and the envy adds the excitement for me.

I play Pai Gow to still be able to play when things aren't going well elsewhere. I like to play at a less than full table so I can change spots if there is a bad run. I usually play $25 and a $5 envy.

Love Pai Gow, my favorite game, like others have said usually your money can last a long time. I do play the Fortune Bets and really like the progressive bets too. Last I was in Vegas, it was about 180,000 at Sunset Station. I know bad odds but still fun to play and at my level of $5 to $10, not going to break the bank.

I like Pai Gow so much, few years back started a database of the games available at different locations. Feel free to check it out, just a google spreadsheet. http://bit.ly/PaiGowtableconditions

And if you feel the urge to add some new information go here, http://bit.ly/PGPdatabase

I hope to update some myself in about a week!

I enjoy PG a lot because it can last me a while. I play fortune as well but it can bleed me slowly. If it's a dry run I'll probably stop fortune for 10-15hands and go back to it afterwards. I like PG because its easy to break even.

Pai Gow Poker is my game of choice, like others have said "most of the time" your $$ will last. $25 hand and $5 progressive, usually a good way for drinks and fun social time. Also 4 hours a day gets me comped rooms a some Caesars properties.

I'm a big fan of Pai Gow Poker as well. My group has made it our game of choice over BJ the past couple years. It's slower and more social.

I had a question. I've seen it mentioned that Pai Gow earns lower comps compared to BJ. I definitely get you play less hands per hours. Lets say 50% compared to BJ.

According to wizard of odds, the house edge on BJ is 0.28%, while for Pai Gow it is 1.46%. That's more than than a 5x difference for Pai Gow. Even with playing half the hands; shouldn't your theo/comps be more with Pai Gow given the same betting per hand? Also, that Pai Gow house edge includes banking every other hand, which I hardly ever see done.

Do they really give 10% theo to pai gow??? That seems wrong to me... UTH I get that...but Pai Gow (Poker or Tiles, but especially poker)?? Maybe that's assuming you bet the bonuses?

And if it isn't wrong I really need to plop my ass at a pai gow table!

Hell, 2.5% theo to a BJ player seems crazy unless it's 6 to 5.

"Theo" is the theoretical loss based on the game's house advantage, amount wagered, time of play, and pace of play for that particular game. I also heard that the pace of play can be adjusted in some places depending on the number of people at the table. This is what the casino bases the comps it gives out for that gamer.

"According to wizard of odds, the house edge on BJ is 0.28%, while for Pai Gow it is 1.46%. "

Looking at the Wizard of Odds, it appears that the house edge with dealer banking is 2.72%, right? See below, copied:

    Win 0.95 2,402,491,783,820,756 0.291195 0.276635

Yeah, Pai-Gow gets its low HE because of "banking" (if you bank as many times as possible)
If you NEVER bank, the HE of PaiGow is higher.
IE: If you NEVER bank, you mayswell play EZ PaiGow or some such variant.

Do check out travelfiend's Pai Gow database ~ it's a great source for checking out where the $5 / $10 tables are and what types of Pai Gow each casino has. I have to admit, I've been pretty lax about sending him updates the last couple of times we went to Vegas ~ have to remember to do that next time!
