    My Trip Report

My wife and I took a vacation last summer and I wrote up a trip report during our stay and shared it with family and friends. I meant to post it here but got busy. So here it is. I hope that you enjoy reading it!

    Vegas Vacation Day One:

The day started out like any other day. We went to work at 6:00 am. But today we only worked a half day. It seemed liked we worked four straight days in eager anticipation for our flight to Vegas.

If you don't know this we love Vegas! In fact we got married in Vegas 15 years ago this summer. We have been countless times. Pam won this trip last summer and we have rescheduled it three times due to family illness and other issues. In fact we came pretty close to canceling this trip. We were very excited once we actually boarded the plane to celebrate us both turning 40 and 15 years of what Pam describes as wedded bliss!

As the plane began to take off many questions were in the air. Was this trip going to be like the first fight in Rocky III, where I take a beating at the tables much like Rocky took a beating from Clubber Lang? Or was I going to be able to take Vegas down and reclaim the title like Rocky did to Clubber at the
end of the movie? The answer was only a few short hours away on a full flight filled to capacity. Pam was desperately wanting the tides to turn this trip as her back is still sore from carrying my weight the last two vacations to Vegas.

Pam struck up friendly conversation with a very nice old man and decided that karma always works better when you buy it a drink! The nice old fellow accepted and Pam now has a new friend, if you don't believe me ask her about the guy's life.

The plane landed thirty minutes ahead of schedule. This was win number one! We got our bags, off to rental car facility, in the car and checked into hotel number one (South Point) for the trip all within one hour! This was win number two. We grabbed some food at the local cafe and headed off to reclaim the girls college fund that I left last time.

Our game of choice is always black jack. Although we do like to donate money to wheel of fortune, I also play some roulette and love to get into a poker game. We both ended the day with positive gains. Some more than others. I am not going to say who did better. But, I will say that Pam's back should be feeling good today and the Clubber should be scared for round two!

    Vegas Vacation Day Two

    Vegas Vacation Day Two:

The day started out early for a feast fit for kings at the South Point Garden buffet. We felt like high rollers as we each used our half off coupons to pay a grand total of $8. We mowed through our food as Pam eagerly waited for her morning at the spa, and I created my blackjack strategy for the day.

I dropped off Pam to be pampered so I could go to work. The beating started early and continued until, I realized that although Pam would be happy that I got her a spa day, she might be a tad upset to realize that we were going to have to sell one our cars. I picked myself up as I left my pride at the table to get us checked out of hotel number one, and checked into hotel number two.

I headed downtown to the Plaza for our free comped night. I should point out that we are degenerate low rolling gamblers. Hence the reason we get to stay in luxury such as the South Point and the Plaza. To give you an Idea of what the Plaza is like; I was approached by two homeless men for money while I was waiting in line to check in. Since karma played a crucial role in yesterday's adventure each person received a $5 spot. I proved to be in the right side of karma as I quickly won back half my losses at the Plaza before heading back to South Point to get Pam. She was still enjoying strange people pampering her, so I was determined to get back what I left. I don't like to brag, but let's just say we will be able to keep both cars and I might have enough left over to put them through the car wash!

We headed over to the Silverton to check it out. We were impressed with not only how nice it is, but also how many people had the amazing idea that Vegas is a great place for kids, and that kids just love sitting at the edge of the casino watching their parents drink and gamble. After watching this, we now know what the theme for next years family vacation will be, Not!

The Silverton was kind and we quickly realized they wanted to keep us around since the dealer was bleeding us chips and we got offered a comp for a free buffet. After our second feast it was off to hotel number three to check in.

Even though I checked us in downtown, we had three free nights at the Trump. We didn't get the Trump for free for being a high rolling degenerate gambler. Pam won this trip and hotel in a raffle last year. I got to admit, I felt pretty good about myself as we slowly rolled up to valet next to a Porsche in our slick black Hyundai. We knew we had finally made it big, because everyone stopped to look at how awesome our rental was next to their luxury cars. The bellhop was obviously equally impressed to be carrying our luggage which included some plastic bags from Dollar Tree that we purchased for some snacks.

After checking in we were heading back downtown to hit the tables. We love going casino hopping. After a long night we looked at the Plaza room and since both the Trump and Plaza are so beautiful we flipped a coin to decide where to stay. Pam was disappointed to see that it came up heads which meant we would be leaving the Plaza and heading back to the Trump. But, rules are rules.

    Vegas Vacation Day three.
I got up early and went for a quick run down the strip. It was uneventful but very nice as it was overcast and cool compared to the 110 the previous day.
Pam was enjoying living in the lap of luxury as she slept in and lounged around admiring all the views from the Trump. We finally got ready and headed out at 10:30. This is 12:30 Texas time!!! We never get late starts, but most admit it that it was nice not being in a hurry.

Today's adventure took us off to Red Rock Canyon. You pay $7 to loop around a 13 mile drive. The sights are unreal. I highly recommend you take the time to see it. Although Pam loved the sights she felt like we needed to return to the ranger station for a partial refund. We were promised cool wildlife such as wild horses, mules and some tortoises! We only saw one jack rabbit that had a death wish with my car. Luckily my cat like reflexes kicked in and saved the little fellow.

Since we were close we stopped off at the Red Rock Casino. This is a favorite of ours. Pam absolutely crushed the blackjack table making them beg for mercy as she gave them the beating of a
lifetime. In all our trips to Vegas, it was the greatest heater ever. As Pam collected the chips I handed over the money and took one for the team so she could continue the streak.

Since we did not have anything to eat we stopped off at Al's Italian Beef. Pam was nice enough to buy. Not only was I licking my wounds from the beating, I was also licking my fingers as my combo proves to be one of the best that I have had.

Our next stop was at Sam's Town to hang out with the blue hairs. This proved to be a poor decision. Not only did both of us get crushed on the blackjack table, but we also got stuck in rush hour blue hair scooter traffic jam from hell as we tried to get out the door. We were able to escape as we left our pride and money behind.

Pam was demanding something new and exciting. So rather than going to the strip, we went to another off strip casino. I had decided that I am bowing down to the blackjack gods and officially retiring from the game. As Pam nestled in for some more play I was off to play a poker tournament. It was full of rocks and I busted out on the bubble right before I would have gotten paid. Pam
was having the time of her life getting all kinds of special attention. A guy with a big old cowboy hat and boots even bought her beer! I knew I was now going to have to earn my keep and I stormed off to the Texas Hold Em carnival game. The decision was wise as not only did I win my money back that I had lost, but I also was able to show up at Pam's table and sweep her off her feet with my new fortune and the promise of a late night special of biscuits and gravy at the South Point!

I would like to mention this amazing person we met. His name was Terry and he has been a blackjack dealer for a long time. I asked him how he deals with poor customers his response was: "It's not how people act towards me that counts. It's how I react at the situation that makes the difference"!

Here it is...the final adventure to our trip last summer. I hope you have enjoyed reading it as much as we had fun doing it! I took a solo trip this past Christmas and I will try to post it in the next few days.

    Vegas Vacation days 4 & 5:

Day four started out with a quick trip to the strip to grab Pam a Starbucks. Although the Trump is nice, their coffee is far from good.
Our first stop was to the Coyote Cantina Cafe. This is the restaurant we had our wedding reception at 15 years earlier. The place looks the exact same as it did when we were married. The food was okay, but it was fun to eat and talk about the past fifteen years and how different our lives are.

We spent a little bit of time at the Sunset Casino to make sure they are financially sound before heading off to downtown. We had never been there before and I really liked the layout and design of the casino.
Once downtown we decided to hit every casino and play a set amount. If we lost it we moved on. We also had a set win amount. Once we hit that mark we would move on.

The El Cortez was in our scopes as the first victim. Pam had left a sizable contribution on a previous trip and wanted to take back what was rightfully hers! In order to do this I had to make peace with the black jack gods and come out of retirement. This whipping was quick as I only lasted four hands before we moved on.

We went from casino to casino, some we hit our target goal and some we missed. the important thing was that we were being served free drinks to make the wins more enjoyable and the losses have less of a sting! We had a great time downtown and ended up going on a couple crazy runs! We enjoyed our usual pizza and wings at the Chicago Brewery and decided to call it a night. Chicago Brewery is a must for us on every trip. If you like pizza and wings as much as us, and I hope that you do, than swing by for a taste of the windy city.

We got back and packed up. Once we got up, Pam took me to the airport and dropped me off. She has a later flight as her journey takes her to San Antonio and Austin to work the rest of the week.

We had an amazing trip to Vegas. Rumor has it that there are already discussion of a reunion tour next year!
