The best answer one can give is simply: Your hotel room.

    Enjoy.

Best place to view them is the porch at Margaritaville. It's super crowded and not much fun at all.

I go to Vegas over the Fourth of July every year and there are not a whole bunch of casino-sponsored fireworks displays (New Years' Eve is more fireworks-oriented than July 4th in Vegas). Caesars usually does something but I am not sure how visible they are from the Strip (I've never tried to watch). The Station casinos like Red Rock have displays. As it gets closer to July 4th, keep googling "4th of July Vegas 2015" for all the fireworks locations and events. One thing I do have to say is that whether you have a Strip or mountain view from your hotel room, after the sun goes down you can see fireworks going off all over the Las Vegas Valley for hours, in every direction you look. Try to get a high floor because it is very, very cool to watch.

Are there any other things that happen in Vegas on the 4th of July that are because it's the 4th of July? Or are fireworks the big thing?

We are also looking at arriving in Vegas on the 4th of July.

Fireworks are not really a big thing in Vegas - not like in other cities such as New York or Boston. There are a few displays of course, but it is not a major celebration all over Las Vegas (except for the people setting off their own fireworks in their backyards all over Las Vegas - it is fun to watch from a hotel room). Here is some information on 4th of July in Las Vegas:

Because July 4th is a Saturday this year you can probably expect there to be some fireworks on The Strip, but its not at all like New Years Eve.

On The Strip and Downtown you might have to hunt around but you could maybe find a bar or two having some kind of July 4th specials, thats mostly going to be about it - not just in Las Vegas, but the July 4th holiday is more a family/locals sort of thing so there will be stuff happening at the ball park, at Lake Mead, at different parks away from the tourist corridor... lost of little barbecues, parties, fireworks, etc.

There is usually a UFC event, but I don't think there is one this year.

I was underwhelmed last year on July 4th there. They had fireworks near the Linq and at Caesars. There was no viewing from Planet Ho so somewhere on the north strip would probably be better or if you can get to The STRAT , Paris tower or the High Roller.
