Table Games South Strip Blackjack

If anyone has played blackjack recently on the south end of the strip, I would be very curious where you've found the best tables/limits. I'm typically a $50-$100 player, and most interested in good rules DD games, but happy to play 6-deck with good rules. Although I typically stay away from CSMs, although I don't really count.

We'll be staying at the Luxor March Madness week, so I'm especially interested in any reports for the Luxor and surrounding casinos as well as MGM.

Based on those limits, MGM Grand is your best bet. You can find shoe games and sometimes DD games for $100 or less on the main floor and in Whiskey Down. Mandalay Bay and NYNY both have good rules, but only in the high limit. The high limit tables in NYNY and not open 24/7, but when they are open, finding a $100 table is no problem. Thanks! What's the deal with Whiskey Down? I don't think it was there when I was in Vegas last. Are the drinks still comped?

 

Its a new bar/gambling pit/hang out area. It's right across form the craps pit. Drinks are comped in there if you are playing

 

Drinks are comped in Whiskey Down if you're playing just like elsewhere in the casino. When I've been there the tables are typically $100+ but I've seen $50 as well. The pit on the main floor near the high limit slots is your best bet. The DD game is usually $100+ but its also $50 a lot of times during the day and normal nights. Can't speak to how it will be during MM. But there are good shoe games in that pit and I think I always see at least one or two tables at $50. They are usually the busiest ones. Basically stick to that pit or Whiskey Down for all your play.

 

I completely agree with this, I just got back and the tables just outside of the high limit slots were a great place to play during the day. I was able to play the 6 deck at $25 and the DD at $50. In the evenings they usually went up to $50 for the 6 deck and $100 for the DD.

 

Don't most of the MGM properties (not Monte Carlo) south of the strip all have fairly decent rules on all their BJ games at $25 and above?

 

I am not sure Luxor or Excalibur do. I haven't stopped at the tables at Luxor in years and I recall the better Excal tables being CSM (which I personally do not consider to be good)

 

I played in Whiskey Down 5 or 6 months ago -- there was no one at any of the tables in there, so a buddy and I went in and asked if they would deal it at $50 instead of $100, and they happily obliged. I prefer to play in there, because you can get better whiskeys, and their punch isn't bad either. I'd say if you like whiskey, give WD a try...otherwise the pit everyone else has talked about is a good bet at MGM.
I haven't been to Excal or Luxor in years, because I hate the vibe in both places, but I seem to recall mostly CSM. Granted, I was many whiskeys in, and it was a long time ago, so it could have changed

 

I played $10 BJ @ Luxor last April. 3:2 DAS 6 deck shoe on the main floor..
that was about 4PM tho.

 

Shoe-dealt 3:2 games can be found almost all the time at Luxor, sometimes even as low as $5 or $10 minimums. They also usually have DD games that are $15 or $25.

For shoe-dealt 3:2 games at Excalibur, you need to go to the pit nearest the escalators leading to the Castle Walk. The other pits are CSMs and/or 6:5.

$15 and $25 shoe-dealt games can be found at Mandalay Bay most of the time, but you sometimes have to really look to find them. Their tables seem to be scattered around: 3:2, 6:5, CSM, shoe-dealt.

I have heard that Monte Carlo is going more the way of the 6:5 tables, and NYNY is getting there. However, I believe you can still find some good 3:2 games at NYNY at the higher limits.

I have never had a problem finding good 3:2 tables at MGM at $10, $15, and $25.

With all that being said, you should be able to find good $50 and $100 tables at all of these properties.

 

I guess it all depends on the OP's definition of "good rules". I assume that to mean S17. If that is the case, I don't think you can find a S17 game outside the high limit at Mandalay Bay.

 

This was true a week ago. I stayed last Thursday night at Delano and only H17 games were on the main floor.

 

Yeah, a couple years ago you could find a S17 game on the main floor, but now it seems that MB only has them in the high limit

 

It was kind of disappointing, but what can you do? I just stuck to craps that night after putting in many hours of blackjack at MGM earlier in the week.

 

Thanks for all the info! I would consider S17 as good rules...If I'm playing 50-100 / hand, I would definitely pass on a H17 table.

Are any of these games pitch anymore?

 

None of the south strip games identified in this thread are pitch games. However, as I wrote in a TR a few months ago, I have seen players request a pitch game in the high limit and they will deal it. Never asked if a certain betting threshold is required, but the players I saw doing it were all wagering yellow chips and higher

 

Luxor is making a switch to 6:5 as well. Don't quote me too much because I don't really table game at all but for sure on their $5 games they're 6:5 and a dealer was remarking they were going that way.

 

I think the DD games at the MGM are pitch.

Edit: this may have changed though. Thinking about it, last time I was there most of the DD games on the strip seemed to be dealt out of a little shoe now.
