    Hey There Downtowners,

I've been primary a strip guy since the last 80's. All during this time a handful of downtown few hour day trips. However, upcoming solo trip has been feeling the pull of downtown upon me. The plan is many hours of exploring during the day and perhaps over a couple of days. I have read much about GG, MSS, and Cal. Little on Fremont and sounds like the D is pretty loud. Also, the Grand (there last Fall for a while), sounds pretty good.

Where might you suggest I pursue some vp play - whether on the floor or at a bar?

My 'easy eats" term means good burgers and thin crust pizza - a simple man with simple needs. And if CW's add further value, in your estimation, feel free to reflect this in your recommendations (when and if losing, nice to take in the surroundings as i pause)
    Many thanks

I love playing video poker at the Boar's Head Bar at MSS. And you can sample their lovely microbrews as you play. It's a short walk from there to Pizza Rock, where you can get some really top notch pizza. Enjoy!

I played at GN over the summer and it was not good. Drink service was stingy and crap paytables. DTG was a lot better drink service and a much more relaxed atmosphere.

Dupars at GG for breakfast was really good.

I did a mini VP crawl with my fiance our last trip. We hit up a bar in each casino and these were the best ones imo with great service and good paytables.

    In order of enjoyment:

-The D upstairs bar (relatively quiet unless there is a rowdy group at the sigma derby, great flair bartenders practicing new tricks)
-DTG center bar (not loud, good service and a very clean feel to the entire area)
-MSS boars head bar (great service, not too loud, negative: the railing at the bar makes playing for long periods uncomfortable)
-GG bartops (we didn't get to play there because all the bartops were taken but the vibe was great, negative: it can be loud)

How long were you in each casino and how long did it take you to visit all the downtown casinos?

    Thanks.

We started about noonish and ended roughly around 8-9pm. Times spent in casinos varied from 20minutes to well over an hour (I was on fire at a few places). The route we took was GN, 4 Queens, The D, El Cortez, DTG, Fremont, Binions, Golden Gate (didn't get to play here, bartops were all taken), LVC, Cal, MSS and ended with Plaza.

Both 4 Queen's and El Cortez have 9/6 on DDB at their bars. Not sure about the other games but would imagine they'd be good too.

Chicago Brew Club at the 4 Queen's has good pizza and food. They will comp you drinks at the bar while playing vp and they have a tray that fits over the machine so you can eat there too. It's nice for a quieter pace if there's a game on you want to watch. Staff are very friendly there too.

I second iluv2fish's recommendation on Pizza Rock as well.

If you happen to wander into the Plaza hotel for their decent VP machines, head south to the far end of the casino for a slice or two of POP-UP pizza, which is very good pie! I think they are open til 2am. There is also Pizza Rock across from DTG, and a newer pizza place, Radio City Pizza, kitty corner from Hennessey's at the east end of the canopy; both with walk-up windows for slices. Pizza Rock closes at midnight weekdays, 2am weekends, and RCP closes at 11pm weekdays, and 2am weekends.
Binions Burgers are pretty good, but I hear the grill is closing. Pizza Rock supposedly has one of the best burgers in Vegas, I'll be sampling it on my next trip downtown. But the KING of all burgers is at the Heart Attack Grill at the east end of the canopy. Check out their website for some mindblowing burger sizes. Bring your nitroglycerin and wear your medic alert bracelet.

Good info and advice guys. Mucho appreciate. From what I read here on the board, not many good things said about GN (at least VP wise) and also noticed few things said about Binions VP as well. In any case, will 'apply;' your advice when i get there........with luck, many times over and over.......Thanks again!!!

Oh yeah, the heart attack grill scares me.......been outside the place and looked over menu. yeah, I see the attraction (in many ways) but damn, those burgers, they kill ya in time! Perhaps enough scotch in me prior to and........, hmmm must ponder

Dupars for breakfast at Golden Gate. Pizza Rock is excellent and Andiamos for great Italian/steakhouse at the D. A great eating day...

I had a good time playing VP at the Long Bar at the D on my October trip. Did better there than I did at the GN. Also enjoyed a late night session at the Golden Gate ... played for hours and had a good view of the party pits. Left up a couple hundred and many, many Jameson and Gingers richer. Pizza Rock is great pizza. I don't know if they have a thin crust option but they have so many different styles that I wouldn't be surprised.

I loved boars head at MSS and did most of my downtown vp here. Spent a few hours at plaza and I enjoyed there as well. There are few places where vp is not good downtown though

Best $0.25 bartop VP downtown is upstairs D at the Vue bar. 8/5 BP with progressive royal, SF and 5-K quads. It's over 100% quite frequently. If you want to play higher, 9/6 JOB at Boar's Head in MSS goes up to $1.

You want to play at Boars Head for Bartop play, or at The Cal (craps alcove) or Four Queens for full play JOB and decent to great drink service. Vue bar has a good 8/5 BP Progressive. Joe reported Full Pay at Plaza bar tops as well (well check out In June).

Pizza Rock is THE place to go in the entire valley for pizza, with Chicago Brewing in 4Q a distant second. Go to Binion's for a burger. 777 at MSS has decent food as well.
