Last night I played at the Ameristar in Indiana near me. My buddy asked me to go out because I am going through some serious shit personally. My father had a stroke a week ago. In looking at the effects of the stroke they found "innumerable" amount of small cancer lesions/tumors all over his brain. He has had lung cancer for 4 years and it spread there. We did not know that. He is on radiation and the prognosis is not good. The last three days he has been sleeping. My day is school/pick up my little man/make dinner then hospital for the night. My buddy thought I could use a casino/strip club visit.

So with that background there I am in the mood I expect things to go poorly and get down when they do.

So back to the gambling. We started at Pai Gow, not a bad session, lost $5 or the commission over hour and half or two. When I got up the pit asked if we wanted anything and I said a cigar and he put a $15 comp on my card, a winner in my book!

Our main reason for gambling to try and recapture the craps magic we had with Packer in Vegas. So when a spot opened up we went for it. We were 2nd and 3rd to shoot. Both of us did not go well. The dealer across the way said something derogatory to the gambler next to her about us and our rolls. Also we got the look of death from everyone at the table, whatever it made us both uncomfortable but we stayed because we wanted to play. Upsetting about the dealer cause I made my typical bets for the crew when I roll, the only person in the session to do any sort of tipping.

Table was full but only 2 other people were on the line, all others were betting the props in the middle of the table for dollars. Mood was that of a morgue. Next shooter went on a roll for like 20 minutes and table did not make much money (only hit two points) except for my buddy and I. We made a comeback. Next guy has a lengthy roll. I get almost back to even so does my buddy, We decided after he outs we will color up and go to the club. I even joined the prop bet fun, throwing a $1 boxcars, even though the dealer had no idea what boxcars were.

This is where shit got strange. Immediately after the 7 comes my buddy and I set the chips out and tell the dealer we want to color up. She ignores them, and starts laying the prop bets for the next roll, whatever fine. Then the still sit there as the dice move, now I am getting worried that she things it is a field bet or something else and I say again I want to color up, nothing. Then the guy next to me says to here, "you just going to leave them there for the roll" In anger she tosses two off chips at our stacks and snaps at the guy "I cannot touch them until I am told to" The dice are fired down our way and almost miss the stack. She then grabs them and colors them up.

Am I being overly sensitive? I never had this happen. The dice were in the middle of the table should she have taken care of the color up first? Or at least before the dice moved? OR at least moved my stack towards the boxman to color up? I would be like in blackjack if the dealt a hand or two before taking care of me.

Doesn't sound like you were being overly sensitive. That was a shit crew who clearly didn't enjoy their jobs.

She should have acknowledged you by saying "Color, no action" or something like that. I agree, sounds like a miserable crew.

Yeah I get if we were late putting it out there. Thanks though I kind figure it. The table was no fun, even if we were going to stay we were gonna get out of there.

I also agree that the crew was a shitty one. Do you think local casinos tend to have crews like this? Did the table players all know each other which is why they gave you and your buddy the death stare because you were not part of their group?

Makes me not want to play at local casinos.

Sorry to hear about your Dad. Hope things turn out o.k.

Thanks, this is the first negative experience I had with players. We were for sure seen as outsiders. It did seem like most of the other players knew each other. I never seen a table with the majority of bettors betting the middle only. Strange experience indeed.

Agree. Crappy crew. I make it a point not to tip surly dealers...and if they were really rude, I might point out that they missed out on me tipping because of being so rude. I am all for tipping but I feel no obligation to tip bad dealers. Sorry about your experience

I haven't been playing craps for too long, but that just sounds like a shitty crew. If anything, they should have been more appreciative of your action because of the tokes you were laying. The fact that they didn't even verbally acknowledge you guys coloring is completely unprofessional.

I am curious what the dealer could have said about your roll that could have been offensive. If it was a quick point SO and he made some comment to the effect of "wow what a shitty roll" well....a) he was right and b) If it was me I would have taken it as just a good natured ribbing since obviously I didn't want it to happen and have no control over it and I would have probably made some self deprecating comment like "yeah the new guy (me) sucks". As for the other players getting pissed....fuck em.

Put that shit out in the open, man. If Ameristar's crap crew sucks balls, then let it be known.
As for your chips; if you want to color up, and it's an impending come-out roll..simply put them in the COME, because obviously, it's not a legit bet. (Not saying you didn't; but just for future reference)
Otherwise, since you said you were the only tipper...I would have been just as shitty to the dealers...but that's just me :evillaugh

    Couple things come to mind.

The main one is that you are trying to recapture a glorious time you had in the past. that just never happens as the funnest times are almost always spontaneous and never planned.

So you were at the table and the same magic wasnt there. Thats the way it goes. you cant have super fun times without the other side of the coin showing up. its just the nature of things.

As for the response they cant toush the chips until they are told, well that seems to indicate that maybe they had a big meeting prior to the shift and are now just doing what the boss says. Its a business after all.

    Try an experiment.

go to work monday morning and see if its anywhere near as loose and fun as it was 10 minutes before clocking out on friday. Chances are pretty good that monday wont be as fun as friday.

    Same here.

What would you have done had they thought your bets were live and paid you? Would you have complained about it?

You mentioned a club at this ameristar casino in Indiana? Is it a nightclub or just an area to sit and listen to music?

Sorry to hear about your dad, too.

As far as the color up, it's not out of the ordinary for the chips to sit in the "come" for a roll or two with an off button on them, if the box is busy with something at the moment. Several times several players will want to color up after a heater, so someone's chips are always on the layout during this slow process. They don't need to be dicks about it, though.

I've never been to a local joint that can even come close to the shittiest Vegas crew. I suppose that is because no one wants to deal craps in the local joints, and dealers are a dime a dozen in Vegas. If you aren't on your game in Vegas, you are out on your ass!

You were right. Period. In a service industry there should be a service provided. Some sort of audio clue. Not ignorance. That sucks... and sorry to hear about your Dad. As a cancer survivor I understand the frustrations and desperation it can cause. Keep up your and his spirits... #cuckfancer

No I thought for sure I was gonna win! Lol. I was just looking to blow off steam and not think about the decisions that my family and I would have to make and what I am facing. I have lost my bankroll and left feeling good cause I had a good time. If I am going to play an negative expectation game I know I will lose a lot more than I will win. That being said I want to be entertained, that is what gambling is to me At the very least I could have been treated with respect. I did not even get a thank your for my bets.

I just was curious what others thought as I play craps but do not play craps that often and wondering if I did something wrong. In the past I was colored up before the next come roll took place or at least acknowledged that I was coloring up.

It really had nothing to do with the fact if I would have been paid or not.

Thanks, I did not know it was common to do that. That was kinda the purpose of my post. Obviously she did not have to be a jerk about it. I was not pressuring her or pushing her to move. A kind please wait a minute sir would have been nice or saying "Color coming in". I get people have bad days but it was one thing after another for me at that table.

I usually leave my extra whites for the crew, but I obviously I did not do it here.

I don't want to come across as "What you should have done is...". But discussing these situations on this board helps me anticipate and react when they happen to me.

I will try to put my stack in the come, get a verbal acknowledgement, or better yet, an OFF button on my stack. If that doesn't work, when the dice get slid over wave my hand over the table for the cameras to see. If there is a conflict, I can go to the tape. If the dice hit my hand, screw 'em, they should have called off my stack. (Of course it won't matter if it is in the come.)
