Vegas vet here planning a trip with another regular. Typically use an MLife offer for comp'd nights at Luxor but I have the same offer for Monte Carlo and NY-NY this time around.

We're familiar with the casinos and location of each, but I'm more interested in a comparison of the basic rooms and pool. Which of the two wins out? For background, we're looking at going in May.

    Thanks.

The pool at NYNY is nothing special at all. Monte Carlo wins that contest hands down. The basic rooms at NYNY (Park Avenue rooms) are a little bit on the small side. At the same time, basic rooms at Monte Carlo are a little more dated and show their age. The casino at NYNY has a great party vibe, so we prefer the NYNY casino. Monte Carlo has a food court inside the casino, always great for a quick bite. Your choice of restaurants is about equal. So I guess it all depends on what you're looking for. Hope this makes your choice a little easier.

NYNY wins in every category but the pool for me.

You can't go wrong with either. I have stayed at both.REELMoneySlotFan's description was pretty good.

Monte Carlo has a "dated, classic" feel to it - reminds me of the glory days of Vegas. I liken it to a 60 year old woman who is dressed up in very nice formal wear. Though past her "prime", you can still see remnants of her beauty and elegance of her past. MC has good access to Aria and the Tram to Bellagio (if you want to head North on the strip). Rooms are good sized. Decor is older, but classic and "elegant". When I'm there, I can imagine what Vegas was like in the Rat Pack days. Pool area is larger with a lazy river, a sandy "beach" area, and the "normal" pool. It is also more crowded (and has more kids).

NYNY is much more modern. I like its smaller casino layout and ease of getting in/out. Easy access to MGM/Excal. Exit out the north doors and you can cut through MC to get to Aria/Tram. Standard room is small, but clean. Spa Suite room is about the size of the MC room with a 2 person tub in it. Pool is basic, no frills. Less kids than the MC pool.

I would say MC. Rooms are equal, in my opinion. Pool is way better at MC, but as others have said that brings in a few more kids. I haven't been in a few years, don't know if they have an adult only pool like Excalibur has or not.

We stayed at both last year ...NYNY has a great vibe and we like the food options. Hated the roller coaster noise. If you stay out late that won't be an issue for you. Monte Carlo has the walkway to Aria/monorail to Bellagio which came in handy. We had the same gambling budget both trips and felt we were comped a little better at MC. Some hallways to the rooms can be windy at NYNY where you have the easy central hub at MC.

This is spot on. If the pool is important, Monte Carlo hands down.
