A co-worker was telling me that his recent Southwest flight was delayed for first one engine and then the other engine failing the pre-flight tests. Makes you feel all warm and fuzzy --- NOT!

IIRC, they have issues like this more than once. This time they reported it instead of the FAA busting them. The VP who's duties covers maintenance should be fired over this happening again.

It makes Early Bird moot. The tail end usually stays intact.

So they agreed to let them fly for 5 more days without having the inspection done. Must not be that serious of an issue.

    Calm down, people!!!

From Wiki: Southwest Airlines has never had any passengers on board die as a result of a crash. Southwest Airlines incidents include 2 deaths (1 non-passenger death on the ground, 1 passenger homicide in the air) and 8 accidents (including 2 aircraft hull losses). The airline was considered amongst the 10 safest in the world in 2012.

Flying is still safer than driving! ;)

Yes and the Concorde flew 27 years with a perfect safety record until one of it's planes crashed. :wink I truly believe that flying is safer than driving, I fly tens of thousands of miles per year for business and still enjoy it. I just think that Southwest should look at their internal processes and someone should have their butt kicked over this one.

This is ridiculous. I don't care who reported what, one of the reasons aircraft safety as increased over the years is that they are required to keep the planes inspected and up to standards. Some of those standards (rudders were one I remember) came about due to accident investigations and others due to problems found before accidents. Any airline not doing the proper inspections and maintenance is opening the door to more problems that could be prevented.

I like Southwest. Flying is much safer than driving. Not the point. People should lose jobs over this. One plane missing inspections? That may be a mistake. Many planes missing them? Borders on criminal negligence.

Actually it's the delayed or pencil-whipped inspections that we DON'T hear about that concern me more!
