I've got a quick craps question. I'm kind of a newbie when it comes to craps, but not to Vegas. My question revolves around the table minimums. If I'm at a table where the minimum bet is $10 does that mean EVERY bet I place has to be at least $10? As an example, I will be betting the pass line (with odds) and then the inside numbers. With my bets on the inside numbers do the minimums apply, so $10 on the 5 and 9 and $12 on the 6 and 8?

Thanks in advance for the help, and I apologize if this has been covered a lot.

Basically you are correct with your thinking. The exception is with the bets that are in the middle of the table. Most of them you can put down as little as $1, esp on the C/E, hard ways, etc.

Don't worry about asking questions you think are "dumb". Everyone has to start out somewhere. One recommendation; some casinos offer lessons on craps so you become more comfortable with the game, it is good to go then and ask all the questions you can think of, that way they know you are a newbie and are willing to learn the game.

Good Luck! It is a very addicting game but also can be expensive.

Actually I play the C/E when I start shooting. Just in case I crap out or if I'm lucky to hit the yo.

I also take note of the shooter, I notice some shooters have a tendency to throw hard ways so I will play the hard ways if I notice that. One shooter hit the hard 8 5 times when he rolled. I started playing hard eight after the third one and won the next 2 hard ways. Wish I parlayed it but I was just lucky that he did it twice more.

When I was learning to play I found it helpful to play in the morning or afternoon at a table thats not crowded. Let the dealers know you are a newbie as well as your neighbors and 99% of people are cool about it.

You dont want to learn to play at midnite at PH on a hot table with everyone trying to elbow for more room.

Also - dont let people tell you the center bets arent fun. If you are playing for a living thats one thing - but if you are out gambling go for it some. Me and a buddy paid for our last trip with three 12's in a row - so you never know.

I usually tip if there's been a couple of points hit or maybe I went on a run hitting my place bets and the dealer was on it going up a unit when needed. Most dealers prefer the tip as a bet so a "2 way hard 6" and toss in $2 or maybe I put a $1 on the pass. This is all relative to your bet level. Of course only bet or tip what you're comfortable with. Don't worry about impressing anyone.

I would add to the Dr's good notes the following.
1 Try and stand next to a dealer so that you can easily ask questions. (not the stick but 1 of 2 dealers at either end).
2 Stay away from the middle of the table till you get a handle on the bets. Nothing pisses a hot shooter or stick man off like a last min "yo" bet for a $1.00 after the stick is moving the dice out to a shooter. It slows up the game and a hot shooter has a lot of new friends that will want you to stop slowing up the game.
3 I don't shoot because I don't want to put full odds behind my pass bet ( i.e. $10 on pass line 5 times odds so $50.00 is the max I can put ). I just play the place bets and I always start out with 6 and 8 until those have been hit a couple of times. You can learn more about "odds' from "wizard of odds" website and other posts here!.
4 Take advantage of free Craps lessons that most casinos offer in the morning. They are they best place to learn the game at plus they usually give you a $10.00 free play to use in a real game.

Good to know Champster... I didn't realize that if you shoot you have to put full odds. I wouldn't want to shoot just merely for the fact that I'd be afraid that I would screw up the throw!!!

While I realize that playing on a computer is no where close to the same as playing in person, I have been only playing the pass line, with odds, and then one or two place bets.

Thanks again everyone for the information... March 12th can't get here quick enough!!!

You don't have to put any odds on a pass line bet, ever. Whether you are shooting or not.

Hi gang, I've read thru this thread, and would love to try playing. I'll definitely go for lessons when we get down there. In the meantime,a question for you. I'm Easily intimidated by crowds, (6ft-5 ,275 lb retired Firefighter, go figure :rolleyes2:probably a PTSD thing) so I don't want to piss anyone off. So here is my scenario, $10 table, $200 bank roll, start with simple $10 pass line, get feet wet, hopefully win a bit. Expand bets with 6 or 8 up top, each one of those bets will be $10? Next level now that I've doubled my BR:thumbsup:Odds, I place my $10, pass line bet ,number 6 is set, I simply have to put $30/$40/or $50 behind my initial bet,or do I have to tell Dealer something?
I can already feel the stress growing. :vomit: Thanks you guys, love this site!:nworthy:

Habs, first off at 6'5", 275 I don't think you need to be concerned with pissing anyone off because even if you do, I doubt anyone will say anything!!! LOL

From everything I've been reading, and doing online, I would actually at least do SOME odds on your passline bet before even venturing to the 6 and 8 (or any other number you choose). It is also my understanding that you just place your chips behind your initial bet, because they know what it's there for. Any other bet you want to place on the board (like place bets) you would have them do those.

Now, if I am wrong on this I'm sure I will be corrected. But I am with you from the standpoint of I know I will be nervous as hell the first time I get on a table... thankfully that is why they have alcohol!!! Good luck!!!

You are correct, you just place your odds bet behind your pass line bet. The craps table can look pretty intimidating but it really isn't. Best game in the house IMHO. Best way to learn is just by playing. Go to a nearly empty table mid-day and the crew will be more than happy to help you out.

If you're going to place the 6 or 8 make sure you do it in multiples of 6 to ensure the correct payout since its 7 to 6. As for odds, you can put just a bet equal to your pass. And you put down the odds yourself. Just set it a couple of inches or centimeters, as I'm assuming you're Canadian, behind your pass line bet. The place bet you'll tell the dealer "twelve dollar six" and then put the chips in the Come area. And he will make change so don't worry if you don't have any singles.

$200 bank roll is a little light for a $10 table. It's doable, but you may have a very short play if the table is sour when you start.
    During play:
As soon as a point is established your next bet should be the odds, not a place bet. You do not have to play maximum odds ($30, $40, $50) and your bankroll couldn't handle maximum odds at a $10 table anyway. On a $200 table single odds ($10) would work. Put $10 behind your original $10 pass line bet. You do not need to inform anyone, just do it. Double odds are the lowest I'll play but I hit the table with $400-$500.
When placing bets directly on the numbers, yes $10 bets work but on the 6&8 your place bets will pay $7 for every $6 bet so on the 6&8 you would place a $12 bet to win $14.

Yes, and if you really want to look like a regular throw a single or two in the middle and yell out "Aces" "Midnight" or "Yo" for a little fun if you are heating up.

You guys are Awsome! Will give it a try when we go in April. Watched the Wizard of Odds videos, started off good, but quickly became convoluted. Thanks for bringing it back to simplicity. Thanks again

Everyone has their own way to tip.
Obviously if you have made a profit or are having a good time and the crew has been helpful.

I tip several different ways and usually only on my roll, if I'm so inclined or if the roll is a heater.
After the come out roll I'll place a $5 chip on top of my odds bet and let the dealer know in front of me "For the crew"
The $5 should be slightly off center of your odds stack. (this is my favorite way to tip) I win, they win.
On a long roll it is a lot of fun to be betting box #'s for the crew and progress them.

Another way is I'll toss in $5 & $1 if I'm on that particular hard way and let the dealer know in front of you by calling out e.g.: "2-way hard eight piggy-back" the 2 way is of course a $1 bet for the crew on the hard eight. The piggy back let's you control what happens with the $1 if a hard eight hits. I like to parlay it to $10 for the dealers.

Another way is on a long roll is to begin betting for them (this is if you are ahead) like $22 inside for the crew 'player control'.
After you progress their bets, be sure to indicate to the dealer to put some in the box, press this or that. Put $4 on the hard ways.
The dealer will always be looking for your direction, so only do this once you are a seasoned player so as to not slow the game down.

I once parlayed $1 to $900 for the dealers! Rare but it does happen. Usually, you press some and put some in their toke box.
Many times that $1 will net the crew $100

Another way is upon leaving the table and if it was a good session,,,give them what you wish. But, if it is like $10 or less, many dealers would prefer you make a bet for the crew, like a pass line with odds, a place bet or toss in some chips and tell the crew 'hard ways' for the crew.
Lastly, many players will tip upon coloring up and leaving some on the felt and the player says for the crew.

I don't see many don't pass players tipping the dealers during play?
