Hello boardmembers! Sorry, I’m a bit late with my introduction but…here I am!

My husband & I have NEVER been to Vegas so we’re planning to visit, for a week, for our 25th wedding anniversary in Nov. 2016. What’s the weather like during this time of year? I don’t think I’ll EVER come in the summer….hate heat lol.

I’m a (THE) researcher & planner, so I’m here to learn all the in’s & out’s, tips & tricks, best/nice places to stay (although we have good friends that live here, we’d also like to stay at one of the nice resorts during our visit), play, shop & eat.

We’re not high-rollers by ANY stretch of the imagination but plan to try our luck & do some gambling while here. So I’d like to learn whatever I can from everyone here. I’m a HUGE fan of Trip Reports (researching Universal Orlando/Disney/Orlando area has caused me to become addicted to them lol), so that’s where I’ve begun my “research” (& probably why it’s taken me so long for my intro….I was absorbed lol). I find them so full of information, making them INVALUABLE to me.

I’m excited to be here & appreciate forums such as these (I think every State should have one), and can’t wait until I am able to contribute my own Trip Report.

    Welcome BTC.

I have been to Vegas in early December and with the exception of the first day (our flight was delayed due to 0% visibility in Vegas - fog). November is a great time to visit - cost wise - You should be able to get one of the better resorts for a good price. My husband and I stayed at the Bellagio in a fountain view room and loved it. For the same price you could probably stay at a larger room at the Venetian or Palazzo and possibly the Wynn. For a special event and nice stay I would limit myself to Bellagio, Wynn, Venetian, Palazzo, Cosmopolitan or the Aria. They all get good reviews. I think if I had my choice of the best it would be the Wynn - even though I have not stayed there yet.

I also love MGM and it is my favorite go to resort because it really has everything and you can and for me it is priced right. You have plenty of time to plan and by 2016 there may be other options available (new resorts) - but I would stay on the strip for your first visit.

Welcome to the board and you have a TON of time to plan.

I totally agree with the suggestion to stay on the strip for your first trip. I think where you choose to set up "home base" there should be a number of factors that go into it - ie. how long you plan to stay, what you plan to do while you're there and then the ever important budget. I'm a firm believer that you're better off in a base room at a higher end hotel than a suite in a lesser quality strictly based on service levels alone.

You're going to love it. Take that from someone who wishes he'd have gone to Vegas 25 years ago. So budgeting.... envelope system is your friend. Make them out before you get on the plane. Select an amount to spend per day, put it into the day's envelope, and do not get into it until the assigned day. Anything you have left from the prior day either goes into your "Take Home" envelope or into the next day's envelope. This little bit of self-discipline will go a long way toward keeping yourself out of trouble while you're in Vegas.

Welcome to the board BtC!! Looks like you are already getting some great advice and you have certainly found the greatest place for Vegas info, you will be on overload LOL I've been to Vegas in November and early December. Weather should be just about right for you, maybe a light jacket or sweater in the evening but otherwise very comfortable. You don't have to be a High Roller to enjoy a bit of gambling in Vegas, just set a budget and stick to it. I usually set a per day budget which seems to work for me. I would definitely say you should try and stay on the strip. My fav is Cosmo for the rooms, views and the Chandelier Bar but there are plenty of other very nice resorts. Enjoy your planning and good luck!

Thanks for the warm welcome! Your suggestions have given me a starting point as to where to begin my "research" for a nice place to stay. Even though MGM just automatically makes me side-eye  , because of some of the negative media I've seen that has occurred there lol, I'll consider them too. But I agree, staying on the strip for our 1st visit would be ideal.

    Thanks, and see ya around!

Love the idea of the envelope system. Being budget conscious, this is definitely something I will do. Great tip!

How is your walking ability? I only ask as the casinos on strip are pretty spread out and you need really comfortable walking shoes.
I agree about a home base and then plan your days/nights to different sections of the strip and one day or night to go downtown.

This is a great point. Husband can walk a lot, but I have a bad knee. So we're used to having a plan to execute. As long as I don't overdo it & have moments to rest, the longer I can go. So it's good to know this will work well for us. I've just discovered "downtown" and already planning some visits.
