I was just digging around in my freezer and found a pack of squid and a pack of spot, which was leftover fish bait that I didn't want to waste, so I froze it.

I'm a lifelong bachelor, so this got me to wondering: Would a spouse/S.O. tolerate keeping fish bait in the freezer all winter?

It doesn't smell, as far as I can tell.

Fish bait in the freezer? Sure why not. It shouldn't smell if it's frozen.

Last month, returning from a trip to Vegas, we came home to a jar of maggots in the fridge. Kid had gone ice fishing and thought it was appropriate to store them there. He might have trouble finding a wife some day.

I had an octopus in the freezer that i forgot about, which i was going to use as bait. Come to think of it, it might still be there :/

Most of my friends use a standalone fridge/freezer that's in their garage.

Maggie doesn't mind bait in the kitchen freezer. I usually just store leftover shrimp, since we don't go offshore much. Maybe some cut bait. If I wanted to keep blocks of frozen chum- something like that- I'd get another freezer. She draws the line at freshwater live bait in the fridge.

I don't think my wife would tolerate bait in the freezer...

The houses we have rented in the Keys have all had bait freezers. I am sure she would not allow frozen boxes of chum in any food freezer!

If you want to store bait in the freezer and your spouse has a problem with it, you married wrong...............

You have to get permission to keep bait in your own freezer?

Bachelorhood is one of the greatest blessings in life. One I personally have no interest on giving up anytime soon. So i suppose the frozen bobcat i have in my freezer wouldnt fly either?

It works for me because I like to cook. My wife seldom thaws anything other than bread or a bagel. She pays scant attention to anything else in the freezer. But I defer to her distaste at finding wriggly stuff in a tub which she thought contained yogurt. Also, out of concern for her sensibilities, I do not permit her to watch me clean fish.

My sister's cat died in the winter, she wanted to bury him but the ground was frozen, she kept the body in the kitchen top freezer.

Yikes!!:  But actually, how we perceive things defy logic. The cat body wouldn't be any different than say, blood sausages or pork loin if wrapped up properly, which I'm sure she did. (She just didn't throw it in there, did she? Lol!! :poke:).

I used to fish with a work partner and he would put all his bait, chum, etc. in the freezer with his regular food items. His wife had no problem with that except when he would just throw the bloody mess in the freezer without properly wrapping and sealing it to avoid getting the blood and slime on the other food items.

I have frozen bait in the freezer right now. The wife doesnt mind. It's double bagged and then for visual purposes wrapped in tin foil. I catch my own bait (spearing/minnows) in late summer for the snapper season here on long Island, and I always save a bag or two of bait for the following year's first outing because the spearing takes a couple of weeks to grow to the right size once snapper season begins.

I keep worms in the refrigerator when I'm up North in the summer.
Whenever a mess of bluegills gets cleaned, I pop the eyeballs and wrap them in small bits of plastic. They go well on a jig and twister tail the next time I fish.

Here in Florida I have the heads of two fish in the freezer waiting for a time I might want pieces of them for bait.

I'm married. No issues. My wife did not want to eat the eyeballs, just the bluegills, so no big deal.
Also, with the free eyeball bait when I gamble on the fishing, I can't lose. The worst I do I break even.
That is not true of the poker.
My wife gets that distinction. She likes me to skip the casino and go fishing.

As long as it's wrapped up properly and the freezer is good and cold, I don't see what the problem is. I'd allow it. My dad fished but he used left over meat, deli meat and bacon as bait. So, I don't remember having bait in the freezer as a kid.
