I've recently learned the basics of craps but I've only played an actual table once. I have a couple questions about betting... My online app allows these bets but not sure if they do in Vegas:

    1. On a $10 min table on the come out roll can I bet $5 on the pass line and $5 on the field? Or do I have to bet $10 on the pass minimum?
    2. Similarly, if I already have $5 on a point after a come bet and the original point hits, on the next come out roll do I have to bet $10 on the pass or can I just go with $5 since I already have a bet in play?

Sorry for the newb question but just looking for ways for a low roller like me to extend my bankroll while still getting more action than one number....

    Thanks all!

If it's a $10 minimum table, all your bets must be at least $10. It's not a cumulative scenario.
A $10 pass line bet, field bet, come bet, don't or placing any number.
Only the inside, one time roll bets can be for a lesser amount.

No the only bet on the table that can be less than $10 are the bets in the middle of the table such as hardways etc

Well.... Crap! That's what I figured. Just playing online I realized on a $5 table a $100 buy-in can last quite a while, maybe get down to $25 left before getting back to even.... On a $10 or $15 min table need a buy-in of at least $200 usually to even have a chance to play for a while just making min bets... Sound about right?

It really depends on how you play. If you make a pass line bet and back it up with full odds, you'll need a bigger buy in. Any dealer will tell you that a field bet is not a smart bet. If you place numbers for the minimum as well, I would buy in for $500.

I played roulette only once before and believe they do that type of rule where it may be a $10 min with $1 chips which means you need to make a total of $10 as one bet or as little as 10 $1 bets.

You could do it but to be honest many people find it hard to bet just the pass with odds especially when a person goes on a roll hitting every number possible except the point and you watch money going to everyone expect you after each roll.

With a $200 buy in I would stick with the $5 limit tables to give you some extra action.

I have bought in with $200 and lost it all before the dice even made it around to me.

Stay away from the field and any prop bets. The house edge is way too high on those. Occasionally you will see players mopping up on those bets, but in the long run they will get hurt real bad playing that way. Be safe and start out playing the time proven method which is a basic 3 point molly. You can look it up. Real simple. If you catch a long hand, convert to place bets and gradually press as the hand progresses. Remember there is no requirement for you to bet on every shooter. Make him qualify before you place any bets. I think the most important key to winning at craps is money management. The longer you stay in the game, the better chance you have to be there when the monster hand shows. Most of the players will have exited the casino with their pockets turned inside out!

If your buy in is relatively small and you want some decent action find a $5 table and do this. Pass line for $5 back it up with single or double odds at most. Place the sister number to the point. Like if it's 9, place the 5 for $5. Sister numbers have the same probability of hitting. The first time your place bet hits just take your winnings. On the 2nd hit have the dealer "go up a unit". This is allows you to really cash in on a hot roll. Of course the dreaded point 7 out will get you. Only play the field if either the 2 or 12 pays triple. It's still not a great bet but it's not bad if you get triple for either. I usually place the sister number unless the point is 4 or 10 then I usually make another Come bet. The 4 or 10 is typical only good if you can BUY instead of place. But that typically require $20 min.

I think you are confusing the OP with this statement IMHO. The OP is asking about craps, not about roulette. On a $10 minimum craps table the minimum bet is $10 for pass and come bets and most place bets (6 and 8 would be better to make a $12 bet). You can bet $1 on the bets in the middle of the table but most other bets the minimum would be $10.

Not sure what you mean by this. Do you mean that when you got on the table was a $5 minimum table but they changed it to a $10 minimum? If so then many casinos will grandfather you in so you can continue to make $5 bets (ask the casino to be sure since not all casinos allow grandfathering). For $10 tables I doubt you could have a $5 bet (unless grandfathered in), the pit crew will probably mention that the minimums are $10.

My guess is that this is based off his assumption in (1) that it might be possible to spread the $10 minimum over multiple bets. The way I'm reading this, he was asking whether, if he had $10 on the table through a combination of a $5 pass line bet and a $5 come bet, and the pass line bet hit, would the next bet he made need to be $10, or would the $5 still on the come count toward the minimum. But it's a moot point because, as we've explained, each individual bet must be at least $10.

    I could be wrong, though.

    OP,

If you want to have fun and sound cool just say, "$2 Midnight" right before you roll.

Got it... Thanks for all the advice! Looking forward to playing in LV this spring. It seems like there is always a good atmosphere around the craps tables. Playing it for the social aspect and expect to lose some but hopefully enjoy the table and free drinks for as long as possible.

    Thanks again everyone!

Midnight is 12, so in this case you'd be making a 2 dollar bet in hopes that the next roll results in a 12 being thrown.

Midnight pays $30 for 1 so if you threw a 12 then you would make $60

Bad bet as it pays $30 for one and the true odds of it hitting are 1:36

look into going downtown, or off strip, usually $5 minimums.

I like Main Street Station, 10X free odds, and good beer from the brewery. had to cancel Super Bowl trip, cause of the snow here, but will be there this spring also (April 22)

FYI, MSS offers 20x odds bets, one of the best in vegas.

I agree with this, keeps me at the table longer - though not necessarily as a winner. And yeah, you miss out when some numbers are hit before qualifying, but it sure feels good not losing on those multiple PSOs, which are more frequent.

Does MSS count odds towards rating?
