Thanks for the link. My first trip to Vegas was in 1988 and things sure have changed. Miss seeing some of the old casinos.

I made it through the first 25 pages, Vegas in the late 80s and 90s is what I remember. Some of those properties I forgot about until seeing the photos. i wish I had my dads pictures that we took in our many trips back when I was a younger one, but they are gone. I miss the Stardust, Westward Ho and that area. Thats the are we use to stay at when i was a kid. I remember we stayed at some rinkydink motel every time we went out. We always drove and one night driving in my dad seen the billboard for Circus Circus for 15 a night, so he said we would stay there. We arrived and we were checked into the Mannor Rooms. I thought we were living the highlife back the, I think I was 12-13. He would play at Stardust and he hit two jackpots on video poker and they invited him to come stay for free, he jumped at it and thats where we stayed thereafter. Those were the days, even at that young age, I was walking around the area of Circus Circus at 10 o'clock at night and nobody batted an eye. It was fun, It felt great. I never expected that Vegas to be gone and what it is today. I still love Vegas, but I really do miss the Vegas back when I was a kid.

I am shocked at the quality of some of the photos. I be looking at them and thinking I wonder what kind of digital they were using and realize they were from 1950s when all they had was film.

    Great post and thread.
My only regret since coming to Vegas since the late 70's, is my stupidity in not taking photographic evidence. I have seen and done many things in Vegas, but taking pics wasn't on the list for some reason, perhaps it was because i usually go solo.
I love the pics of Glass Pool Inn, it was a site for sore eyes driving in from Cali through the hot desert for 5 hours. Then the first red light i would hit in Vegas was at LV blvd and seeing the Glass Pool Inn. I knew i was in Vegas, first listening to Komp with Carlota blazing on the radio and then turning a left onto the Blvd towards happiness.

Absolutely captivating. Thanks for posting. I should really be working, but I can't stop looking at these. I'm a sucker for those "then and now" books. It would be fun to juxtapose some of these with shots taken from the same angle today.

Notice the amount of gas stations in the 70,s and 80,s

Thanks for posting, I really regret not taking pictures during our first visits. On our very first trip we stayed at the Holiday Inn Casino back when the casino was the small riverboat in the earliest pictures. Really enjoy the memories.

It does seem there were a lot more gas stations on the Strip then as compared to now. Back in June, we rented a Prius, and drove all over the place, including out to Hoover Dam and back. When we turned it in, we put 10 bucks in the tank to top it off.

It's amazing how, even in the 80's, the strip looks so ordinary.

And the vintage cars when they were new are amazing to see.
