Room service

Does anyone else not understand the concept of room service?

I have been hung over on the floor on my hands and knees and starving and refused to order room service.

I never understood the idea of eating in a bed. Sleeping with food crumbs is something I avoid.

For the basic traveler:

Rooms are usually cramped.
Rooms are not well ventilated.
Chairs for tables are not comfortable.
Let's be honest about the germs.

Not ideal eating conditions.

Did I mention the sky high prices and most likely mediocre food?

IDK, if you are ever at Aria try it out. The American breakfast is almost better than anything I can get at the Bellagio Cafe

 

Cool for the people that like it.

I was curious if there are others that feel the same way.

 

I've gotten room service at my local casino but never in Vegas. The prices at my local casino are actually quite reasonable and sometimes it's just nice to get off of the casino floor and relax in your room for a bit.

 

My wife and I don't do room service either. Though it's understandable others like it, we'd rather get out and see things. Picking a spot to eat is one of the best parts about traveling. On those rare occasions we do eat in the room, it's food we've brought back with us.

And, there's the (high) cost issue of room service. Plus, it's not like it's easy to request additional items, condiments, or send something back that's not right.

In other places or on a business trip I love it. But room service food in Vegas is usually gross. I've done it when really hungover and regretted it. I try to keep hearty snacks in the room in case I can't leave.

 

I like room service. In fact I usually look through the menu shortly after settling in.

I use it a lot more when I'm solo though and usually just for late night grub. I don't eat in bed. They usually send it up on a table but even if it's on a tray they will put out the table setting. Besides the crumbs I just can't get comfortable eating in bed, it's too awkward.

 

I have had room service a few times...NY Strip at Mirage was really good, juicy and tender. NY Strip at Delano and MGM Grand was not so good, Delano being the worst...really tough and unchewable. If you have to pay out of pocket, room service is not such a great deal. Otherwise, is not so bad, depending on the property. Having a room with an actual dining table and chairs does make room service more enjoyable...especially if you have a room with a good view.

 

Last year we had room service in our suite at Mirage. Of course, it wasn't in bed, we ate at the table in our room. We had dinner overlooking the strip, split an entree, a salad and we already had a bottle of wine in the room. The entree was pasta and was way more than both of us could eat. We are planning on doing it again this summer!

 

I've ordered room service many times in many hotels across the country and yes it irks me to see that the prices on the menu are a couple bucks higher than in the restaurant downstairs but I only do it when I have to, like when I'm in an online meeting, working or just arrived and am exhausted. I'm on expenses when I travel but am frugal so I do this only when necessary. I don't particularly enjoy eating in the room either.

I remember getting breakfast at Aria and yes it was expensive but fast and excellent. Can't remember any recent problems in Vegas.

Best service recently was at the Renaissance ClubSport in Walnut Creek, CA. Fantastic hotel! Breakfast arrived in about 10 minutes and my eggs Benedict (crab cakes) were superb!

 

Put me in the NO room service pack..........mostly because of the ridiculous prices they charge.....of course I'm a FRUGAL SOB to be truthful.

However, why so much for so little. You can get a pizza ordered to be delivered or many other options for takeout for much less then room service. And they have the staff right there and isn't that what they are there for.

I could see paying the same price for the food as you would in that restaurant, then a small fee for delivery and then tip the delivery guy.......but there is NO WAY I'm paying their room service prices and then a tip....nope....not for me......now where was that pizza parlor's phone number that delivers in 30 minutes or less.....LOL

 

Breakfast only! So worth it to get that bacon & eggs over-medium, with english muffin and a carafe of coffee first thing to start the day.

Even so, I rarely do it anymore in Vegas...

 

This is my issue. Ordered soup and sandwich once and it came without a spoon. Not the end of the world but I thought it would have an obvious piece of silverware to include with an order.

The waiter offered to go get one but since it was probably a 15 minute walk each way, I just laughed and said no. Since I was in the room, I just went caveman and drank the soup out of the bowl.

 

I only do breakfast (even with the sky-high prices), but I usually get it comped off at the end of my stay anyway. Some of those breakfasts are amazing and there is nothing better than having a fresh cup of coffee brought to you when you wake up.

At V/P or Wynn or anywhere else that has a "division" between the sitting/sleeping areas - YES

Anywhere else - NO. Get my a** up and downstairs for breakfast.

 

We have never used room service, never even considered it. (well, have thought a time or two about a pot of morning coffee) Being served or serving ourselves (buffet) is much more fun, part of our LV experience. Better people watching, we can only watch each other in our room.

 

Although I posted in the over-eating thread that we miss many meals and do not eat regularly........

We do order room service at least once every trip, and have done so for years and years.
It could be either very late dinner after getting to room at 2, 3, 4am...........(it's always good)

OR......breakfast after getting back to room at 3,4,5am............

First thing in the morning, we are in absolutely no shape to get up, get dressed, and have to face people, so room service breakfast is the bomb!
Have ordered at many hotels, and generally, they do not screw up breakfast. It's always just what the doctor ordered!

I simply do not understand the whole 'cost is too high" argument.
For God's sakes, people, it's Las Vegas! Loosen up!

 

I order room service on about 90% of my trips.

The only thing I can deliver to my door at home is pizza and Sandwiches. Life's good when you have a full menu without having to get up.

The best time is when you are hung over with no more water and gatorade in the room fridge from drinking it all.

I'm not sure that a (Vegas) hotel not offering room service would be a deal breaker for me...who am I kidding, of course it would. I'm usually good for one late night chow-down to stop the room from spinning and one breakfast while watching the game in a hotel-branded robe.

Yeah, the prices are ridiculous. No debating that. But a few overpriced meals a year aren't going to ruin any of us.
