    My Trip Report

My husband's first trip to Vegas and my first time in 30 years - we left our local 2-gate airport on Feb 5 - had drinks at 11 am and a couple on the plane. Arrived to Vegas with niece and nephew (who had arrived the day before) picking us up in a Cadillac Escalade limo. They had had luck in poker the night before and were each $1000+ up. We enjoyed drinks on the way to our hotel, Aria. Walked into Aria and could not believe how huge it was. We went up to n&n suite, which was gorgeous. They had been upgraded to a suite due to a mess-up at the front desk on their reservation. We weren't as lucky but still scored 27th floor with a beautiful view of Bellagio and the mountains! Loved how you walked into the room for the first time with the drapes opening up revealing your view. The room was beautiful, but I was ready to get my video keno on! I had a lot of luck at Aria - hit 5 out of 5 for $200 within the first 10 minutes. I had been practicing 4-card keno online for a few months as there was no such thing 30 years ago - just the plain old video keno on one card, but I loved the 4-card concept and developed what I felt was almost a foolproof way to win, and it proved quite successful and was $1000 up my first day. Of course, I put a lot back in to win, but continued to win and was up. I hit multiple 5 out of 5s for $200 each, hit 2 $750 pots, and a $435 pot - these were all at Aria. I actually hit $200 pots everywhere we went but had no more $750 hits but kept on trying. I had a long list of places I wanted to go after months of research on these boards but our computer crashed the day before we left and lost everything - was so upset!! I didn't get to do half of what I had on my list and couldn't remember which hotel had this restaurant or that one. We did make it to Pink Taco which I remembered had a good happy hour; however we went too early and just ordered lunch. Have to say we were quite disappointed in our meal, though. Husband was upset at Aria because barmaids were so hard to come by, and he couldn't get his drink on. I told him to hit the video poker at the bar, and he should get free beers that way. He went to the bar and put his money in, started playing, ordered a beer and was charged $8 for the beer so that pissed him off more. He finally ended up having a good time at Monte Carlo and MGM and definitely got his drink on at those places. N&N had scored a reservation at Top of the World on Friday night after meeting a host from there, so we went Friday night. Scored a table right by the window. Prices were a bit steep for us, but we shared a lot of food. N&N got the $90 four course tasting menu, and hubby and I shared the Surf and Turf gnocchi. I had a chocolate drink to start the meal, which was $15 and delicious!! N&N had dirty martinis and DH had his Heineken. We tried seared scallops, beef carpaccio, crabcake, lobster bisque, center cut of tenderloin in mushroom reduction (melt in your mouth delicious!!), and duo of desserts (pot de creme and fruit and vanilla mousse in white chocolate cup). It was a wonderful meal and beautiful view. I went to bed early that night while the rest partied until 3-4 in the morning. I was up at 5 every morning hitting the video keno. Saturday, we checked out of Aria and headed to the Downtown Grand for the last 2 nights of our stay. Totally different atmosphere but have to say I enjoyed the vibe much more downtown. The Grand was nice for $38 a night and will stay there again. We hit Hash House on the way there and enjoyed the meal there. I had the french toast with banana and cinnamon and eggs and bacon. Pretty good food. N&N shared the chicken and waffle, which they enjoyed and DH had the club. Good food for the price. We hit Fremont Saturday night and enjoyed the sights. N&N and DH ziplined and loved it. N&N left that night at 10, and we continued on by ourselves. Hit the MSS buffet Sunday morning, which was good for the price. Forgot to mention we had Bellagio buffet Thursday night, which was quite good - used the 2-for-1 MyVegas reward. I continued on with my video keno and hit multiple $200 pots at Downtown Grand. We ended up spending about $500 out of our spending money for the trip , so I consider that a win, went home dollared up and bought a new computer. Sucked coming back to 15 degrees from 78, but we're already planning our next trip.

Awesome trip report. I am curious to what your fool proof keno strategy is because it really worked for you and I would love to try it!

Well, it did seem to work for me - I call it foolproof, but, of course it wasn't or I would have gone home with much more money, but my husband was gambling, so I funded his losses, our dinners, drinks, and other expenses with my winnings. I visited an online keno game under mystic gambler and played keno on there to try out different combinations. What I did was to play 5 out of 5 but stuck to four different 5 out of 5 spots in the same area - just as in the picture above where I hit all four of my 5 out of 5 spots. I had played on card A 1 bet, numbers 8, 9, 10, 19, and 20. Card B, 1 bet, numbers 8, 9, 10, 18, and 19. Card C, 1 bet, numbers 8, 9, 10, 18, and 30. Card D, 1 bet, numbers 8, 10, 18, 19, 20. This resulted in what looks like a 6-spot when all finished, but it was actually four different 5 spots in the same area, and if I did hit all six of those numbers, I hit four 5 out of 5 for 810 quarters each or approximately $750. If I hit only 1 of those combinations, which I did multiple, multiple times, I would win around $200. It was always a $1 bet or you could play up to 4 quarters on each card and win even more. You could play this in any area of the board where you feel numbers are hitting, but I usually stuck in the top 2 corners - I would either go horizontal or vertical. Good luck and let me know how it works out for you!!

    Good report!

If I was your husband though, I would have complained about the beer charge. It's happened to me a couple of times, but I point out that I am going to play and then they take care of it. Some bartenders just miss that you put money in the machine.

Good to hear you are already planning another visit after such a long absence. Congrats on the keno wins! I didn't know Aria charged for drinks at the bar while playing...I thought only Wynncore did that.

I miss the old Triple Trouble Video keno games, not the new HD versions popping up. Theres a bank of them across from the nutty Irishman bar at NYNY casino. Fun games, and good payouts!

Is Keno complicated to learn? Looks like a bingo board.

No not complicated. Pick the numbers you want & go. Hardest part is picking your numbers!

Lots of info online on odds and how many numbers to pick. It looks complicated on the new machines because there are so many options of games to choose - power keno, multi-card keno, caveman keno (despise that game), and 4-card keno, my current favorite. The best bet to start out is just trying out regular keno and going on from there. There is info on how it compares to video poker, which is considered the best game for odds, and the 5 out of 5 with 1 quarter in pays approximately $200 whereas the video poker with 1 quarter in only pays 250 credits or $62.50. You have to play 5 quarters in to get the 4000 credits on a royal flush. On regular keno, 4 quarters in hitting a 5 out of 5 will get you $800 plus but seems much easier to get than a royal. Also, people like to bunch their numbers in keno. You will see the newbie sit down and try keno, punching in 10 random numbers, which is the max numbers you can play but I've never seen a 10 out of 10 hit (I've seen 9 out of 10 once) or a lot of newbies will pick birthdates or anniversaries as their lucky numbers but then their numbers are usually scattered all over the board. I like to stick in a bunch on my 5 of 5, usually in a corner, but you can watch your machine and see what numbers seem to be coming up a lot and go from there. The difference in playing 4-card keno and regular keno is this: In regular keno, you can pick 5 numbers and then sit and play 1 quarter at a time, making your money last and hope to hit for $200. You can play max credits for the $800 also if you feel lucky. On 4-card keno, you can pick 5 of 5 on 4 different cards giving you 4 different number combinations hoping to hit at least one, but you're betting 1 quarter (at least) per card, making each play $1 for that $200, but your chances have quadrupled at hitting one of your 5 of 5 combos. Hope this makes sense - just research online and you can learn a lot more. There are also youtube videos that are instructional also.

I started reading your report KatyHill232 as we are staying in the aria in less than 10 days time. Thank you for pointing out a game to me that I didn't know about which I may try as this is my birthday trip so people have been giving me dollars to play with. First time in Vegas. Looking forward to it.

Thanks for sharing your Keno strategy! I will certainly try this combination next time I am in Vegas. I play both four card and multi keno when I go and am a big fan of overlapping numbers. Did you try the multi card keno version while you were there? Glad you had a good run.

Nice summary about keno kayhill. And you're right, it does give bigger payout chances than video poker. Unfortunately most video keno paytables are not nearly as generous as VP. If you find a 90% payback on the strip for quarters, you're doing pretty good.

Ironically the very first time I played video keno at the actual casino, it was a caveman game and very first pull I hit 7 of 10 for $20 from $0.25 bet.

Not sure if this is where she plays, but you can play many of the common video keno games at videopoker.com

Most of the paytables on the site are near "full pay" though, fyi.

Basic membership (must deal with ads) is free.
