Its an advertising campaign by The Stratosphere . There isn't much reason for people to stay there other than cheap rates, they gotta do what they gotta do to get people in the door.

I agree that it's a gimmick. thought it was interesting that the story was picked up by so many major news outlets. Must be a slow news day.

I think the campaign ad states some valid points, such as the very high prices for bottle service at nightclubs on the Strip.
Yet....Las Vegas had a record 41 million visitors in 2014, and those pricey nightclubs are always sold out.
So what exactly seems to be the problem?

I agree. Yes bottle service is expensive...so don't go to places that have it. For me, it's not my scene so I don't hit up places that typically have bottle service like a Hakkasan, TAO, etc... But the strip has something for everyone whether you're a clubber, High Roller, low roller, or someone who just takes in the sites. The STRAT has a location problem.

If they want to make waves, do 3:2 blackjack at all minimums, get full pay VP at 25c level. Give me a reason to make a trip down there.

Smart marketing, it gets your attention. I still wouldn't stay there and really wouldn't be thrilled if on a short trip. Know a few newbies who ended up there just because of the price. If you're visiting for two or three weeks and low rolling, it can be a fine location.

It's a cute marketing gimmick. But the fact is there's already a place for people who don't want to deal with the high prices or "snootiness" of The Strip. It's called downtown. It's every bit as inexpensive as The Strat (if not more so) and you don't have to walk through sketchiness to get to a neighboring casino.

I do wish them the best of luck and applaud the mildly humorous campaign, though.

I used to stay at Stratosphere around 14 years ago because of the cheap rates. Then I found decent rates at Bally's, and I liked that location much better. It was part of Park Place Entertainment, soon to be Caesars Entertainment. I started staying at Planet Hollywood around 2008 or 2009 before it was part of Caesars. I remember around 2007 when they changed the name from Aladdin to Planet Hollywood (I think PH got control of Aladdin earlier in the 2000s), they had started to paint the building a deep blue color, but they changed it back to the ecru color. But now I stay mainly at PH, occasionally at Paris or Caesars. The actual years I'm guessing; I just remember the sequence. I remember in the nineties when each casino had their own player's club. I still have all those cards somewhere; strip casinos, non-strip casinos, downtown casinos.

I actually think it is a solid campaign on their part, although I agree that a better strategy is to improve odds for the gamblers, (3:2 BJ full pay VP, as stated earlier). That might entice me to make a trip up there.

I think it's funny to hear anything in Vegas described as snooty. As if Vegas has ever had that type of reputation. It's a place where you can go pretty much anywhere dressed like a plumber and there's almost no appetite for any stage production with more gravitas than acrobatics or magic.

But I agree as a marketing gimmick it can work for Stratosphere if enough people think anything you might consider wearing pants for is snooty.

I like it. I'd rather be surrounded by Stratosphere folks than Jersey Shore club folks any day. Maybe I will actually set foot in there this trip. It's a location problem more than an identity one for me..

Hmmm ... what comes around goes around.

Decades ago, your friend (and his) Bob Stupak used to heavily market the old Vegas World (or as one friend called it, "Vagrant World") as kind of the hoi polloi alternative to the hoity-toity places on the Strip, such as the Desert Inn and Caesars.

I am exactly what they are marketing !
    *
    I have been a Stratosphere Regular for around 15 yrs - probably,longer,
since their '96 opening.......but my Vegas Memory is starting to fade, a bit.....not sure exactly, anymore.
    *
I hope everyone stays away..........yup !......don't ruin my great "budget" Vegas Experience.
    *
Being a "regular" at The Strat --
I can "navigate" perks better than anywhere else.
Perks = upgrades, freebies, etc........I know who to ask + how to ask......and get them for free.
    *
This Marketing Strategy is good for them --
What else can they market themselves as ?
    *
I have found the Strat Crowd to be a nice crowd looking for some Vegas Fun -
without having to pay an arm + leg for it.
Just how they are marketing themselves.

I feel the same way. But.....I just don't want to be that far north on the Strip.

I'm one of the ones that are gravitating more towards Fremont, where once a day trip has now become at least a 3 night stay.

I will always spend at least 3 or 4 nights at Mirage, simply because I like it there and the location is perfect, FOR ME.

I would like to bring up the analogy that my parent's generation trekked to Seaside Heights, NJ for 50 years on the exact same week and stayed in the exact same place and ate in the exact same restaurants and even parked in the exact same parking spot and sat on the exact same piece of sand, never varied, and loved every last second of it. The Guidos and Guidettes were always there, they just didn't have a show on MTV.

So, I trek to Las Vegas and stay 4 nights at Mirage and 3 nights at Golden Nugget because that is what I like to do, hoochie mama club girls and ass wipe boys be damned because they are just part of the background and in 5 years or so something else will be going on.

    End Rant.

I agree with this. I'd never stay at the Strat (or downtown, for that matter), but I commend them for clever marketing. Hey, it's business. They are going after it.

That's what I love about Vegas the most. Want to be a high roller? You can do it. Want to be frugal and spend very little? There's place for you.

Vegas is the one place where there's something for EVERYONE. And you won't be the only person doing it, the'll be hundreds of people right along side you.
