Remembering My first trip

My first trip to Vegas was Jan of 2013. We got a deal through my then Fiances Hilton Rewards card. We stayed at the one between the Stratosphere and Circus Circus. I had no idea what to expect. We got there and got show tickets to Jersey Boys and La Rev and payed way to much. Jersey Boys the first night thought it was great then the next day we went over to the Stratosphere did a couple ride and I jumped off of it. Took advantage of happy hour in the lounge with a great view and a little live music. Went down stairs and used a coupon for $5 pizza and beer which were both huge. After that the wife had to use the bathroom and I walked up to a roulette first time in my life. (I had a $30 gambling budget) I pulled it all out and gave it to the lady. $5 min I put that on 17 black it hit. My wife came out of the bathroom and I am screaming at her across the casino.
We soon left I walked away with $160. We went over to the Wynn for La Rev had a couple glasses of wine and played the big wheel for about 30 min before the show started. A cirque was one of the main things I wanted to see there and it was good but all I could think about was getting back on a roulette table. We got out of the show the wife did not want to play as much as me and it showed as she was a little grumpy and would not sit down by me. Wynn has $15 min and I just played a little on the outside. I turned and looked back at her and asked her to pick a number. "no" I say come on were in vegas pick a number " fine red 14" I set the $15 there ( I did not know you could split it up on the inside) I turn to my wife and to try to cheer her up when I turn back to the table there is a marker sitting on top of my bet. Needless to say the wife was cheered up. We left the table with a $500 chip. Next we went down to the south side of the strip and walked around had a few drinks and went to bed.
Woke up the next morning a Saturday tried to get to get dinner reservations for that night at Gordon Ramseys Steak they laughed and hung up on me. So we ended up going for Sushi at RA in the fashion show mall. I don't know if it was cuz we were famished or what but it was the best Sushi we have ate to this day. Then checked out the Davinchi exibit at the Venetian walked through the Forum shops at Caesars and killed some time at Margaritaville. It was getting time to go home walking back to our checked bags at the hotel before our red eye I talked my wife into another $50 of roulette play at the Circus Circus. She said, "your not gonna win again" . It was 4-5 spins in I hit on a $5 bet. The drink girl came by I gave her a $5 tip and she was back 3 more times in the next 30 min.
Vegas was nothing like what I expected. I thought it was just gambling and I thought I did not like to gamble (wrong on both counts). Ended up deciding to get married there and had to make a trip ahead of time to pick a chapel. Now almost a year into marriage we are about to make our 4th trip. Now that I know all the ins and outs and deals it has only gotten better.

BTW: I never had any luck at roulette ever again. I now play BlackJack

 

Lol! The gambling Gods are funny that way. They get you hooked on a game and then they slam the door in your face. I used to have a ton of luck when I first started playing craps. Now that I'm hooked the luck faucet has been turned off.

 

Each time you go, you're going to learn a little bit more about Vegas, what things to do, and what not to do. And you'll have fun doing it. Eventually, you're going to say, "I can't believe I did that! But I sure did have fun doing it!"

 

My first to Vegas was in 1999 with my current job. I had just lost nearly $1 Million in a business and was heavily in debt. My gambling budget was $20. I left with $28.50 after playing Wheel of Fortune slots at NYNY.

Been to Vegas so many times now I don't use a GPS. Been to every corner of the city as it's fascinating.

Strange, haven't taken the time to see Le Reve. Got to do that!

 

That is a great story. The first thing I was going to say is I hope you never played roulette again. I remember my first trip, we stayed at PH. I found a "Big Split Video Poker" machine and used it like an ATM for our three night stay. I won almost $400 dollars over the stay with minimal play. I thought this machine was golden. I have since returned about 12 or so times and I have each time made a run at the ole "Big Split". While it has become a one way split! After our trip last month I said this is it, I am done with this machine, I put another $100 through and won nothing.

First trip was 1993, golden nugget. My in laws brought me when my wife and I were still kids and not married yet. Wasn't old enough to gamble yet so I just remember the smells and golden nugget had a pretty cool arcade by the pool area.
