Vegas Rover

I just accidentally stumbled across a facebook page for a company called Vegas Rover. They have a website that offers all different levels of discounts or freebies depending on the level of membership that you purchase. They seem relatively new and I was just wondering if anyone had any experience and opinions on them, good OR bad. Several deals seem good, such as the Room/Free Play match from the Tropicana or the Free or Discounted rooms at the D downtown.

 

It's run by some guy who used to run a Facebook group for fans of MyVegas, but didn't seem to play well with them and MyVegas pulled support and he closed up the group. I don't have any experience with his Rover company, but we have had to squash a lot of spam from his old MyVegas group and the Rover group. I'm not saying their stuff isn't good or legit, I just can't encourage people to buy from someone who endorses that kind of behavior.

 

I purchased a Basic membership a while back for $10 or $15 during one of their sales. I haven't used it yet, but I figured the 15% off at HHAGG and Table Match Play at Tropicana would basically pay for itself. Most of the deals they secure seem to be for off-strip properties, which isn't bad, but I'm a main strip guy myself so not a whole lot of value for me.

 

I know that everyone has different ways that they do things in Vegas...that is the beauty of reading all the trip reports--no two seem the same, even from people that are together on a trip! My wife won't do "coupon runs" and does not even like to stand at a table long enough to play a match play...she just wants to play the slots. That means that the "value" of each product out there offering things like free play, match play, etc. needs to be evaluated on an individual basis and you do also need to look at "who" you are buying it from.

I like the ACG books but their value has diminished over time for us. The first year we used it was exciting but each year there seems to be less for us in the book. Too many offers are almost (or exact) duplicates of what the casino offers anyway and too many were for "new members only". I also looked at the Curtis thing; it seemed much the same.

That leads me to the Rover deal. There is some question about the folks running the place being raised "in other places" by a member that I respect here. That being said, it looks like this card has the best value for our style of Vegas trips. I am wondering if anyone else here has had any experience with the card...please share if you have used the card...

 

I just used my card at the Tropicana earlier in the week for the $10 match play. The lady didn't recognize the card, but pulled out a huge book and was able to identify what perks I get fairly quickly. That's all I've taken advantage of so far.

 

I had a look at their site. From what I can tell, the benefits are similar to other coupons out there. However, instead of carrying a whole coupon book, or coupons plus a card, you just carry the card. Which is a plus. However, I do remember the kerfuffle on MyVegas and that is a consideration for sure.

 

I was wondering what happen to their facebook page.

 

There have been lots of kerfluffles involving this group.

The MyVegas group split, the Border Grille debacle, the order to stop using the MyVegas name, etc etc etc.
Without going into 15 pages of details, I will say I would not support them.

I purchase the LVA Members Coupon book every year and it's value far surpasses VR in my opinion.
Their book is small enough to fit in a pocket or purse, no problem.

 

Myself and GF bought a card each - used it for match play / free play etc, never had any issues. Was good value for us, never used the free room offers so can't comment in those.

 

I actually did a spreadsheet of the ACG coupons, eliminated the ones that we were not likely to use and decided to not buy the book this year. I will do the same with both the LVA book and the Vegas Rover offers. Still, since Rover is newer, I am listening for input, too. It would take no outside info to do the LVA thing because I have seen it around for years. Comparing the offers is easy--we aren't using anything other than the gambling coupons, so entire sections are eliminated before I start the comparison.

 

The price of his 2 most expensive packages really took me back. That's a whole lot of money to plunk down.

Also, the couple of members who have said they wouldn't advise buying it are qualified to say that, they know what they're talking about. And I would skip it based on their word alone.

However, I would deeply appreciate it if somebody would pm me with the dirty details of the aforementioned kerfuffles.

 

If the card is a good deal when I analyze it and the information shared stays consistent (not great folks but people getting the deals as promised), I will take a chance on of it in spite of the qualifications of those "qualified" folks. I'm going to a place focused on keeping me coming back and hoping to separate me from my money...why not try to gain little advantages here and there?

 

It's up to you dude. I mean, you brought it to the group. You asked for opinions. You asked "how come nobody talks about this?" You found out why nobody talks about it. I didn't even know about it. I mean, I knew there had been a kerfuffle but I didn't know any details. And I didn't know they had branched out into this area. You want to keep in mind that these things can go from all good to no bueno very quickly. Casinos can pull out of these deals any time they want. And it's been done in the past. In my head, there's a history with this dude, there's a history with other coupon sellers in the past, why take the chance when there's other options? I would give it another year or so, see how things shake out with his business before revisiting the idea of joining.

I've read a bit of what one respected member here and on another board I frequent; I also have taken into account what the moderator here said, among others. I've actually heard very little here that I didn't already hear somewhere else except from a few customers who seemed satisfied for the most part. I appreciate the input and I'll go from there. I guess to me tossing a few bucks at an unknown isn't much different than what I do every time I visit a casino, so I'm not going to let that bother me too much...but I still want to hear from anyone with actual information about the product, how it worked, issues people had with the provider, etc. Other comments? Everyone can chime in but comments that have nothing to do with actual experiences, with the owners or the product, simply don't hold much water.

 

I'll make this post and then I'll move on. You said other comments don't hold much water and frankly...well you might have missed the point of my post.

The fact is, some of us (including me) have gotten hung with useless coupons in the past. Casinos can pull out of these deals any time. And dude has a history of pissing off casinos. I can't remember if it was the ACG or the LVA but there was a period of time where it was a pain in the butt to try to use them and that had to be resolved. There was also a period of time where you'd check the website and there would be a notice listing all the deals and coupons that were no longer valid. So, it can happen.

You made this post, and like I said before, I didn't know about it. I looked into it after you mentioned it. On the surface, coupon vs coupon, it looks good. I like the idea of not carrying the book or coupons around, just the card. But, if some of my fellow coupon users say no go, I don't go. I learned that lesson the hard way. It wasn't an expensive lesson but, a lesson all the same.

Again, it's up to you. Please report back on what your experience is.

And nobody has sent me the dirty details of what happened yet either. Harmless private gossip, come on people.

 

I was part of his MyVegas group from the very beginning. It's been almost two years since everything went down, but here is what I remember. He swore to everyone he wasn't making any money off the site, and then someone discovered he was using link affiliates and profiting when people click on his links. He denied it and then finally admitted to it. Secondly, he was encouraging people to violate the terms of MyVegas by mass posting chip links on his site. For a short time, he had a relationship with the creators of MyVegas but after he refused to play by their rules they eventually asked him to stop using the MyVegas name for his group. Those were the two big issues that I knew about. The only other thing I noticed about him was that he would be super friendly one moment, and then next he would be rude and angry and talking bad about people, almost like he was bi-polar. The guy is clearly an entrepreneur. As soon as one idea does not work out, he will start a new business the next day selling something else, and for the most part he seems good at coming up with ideas to make money. I can't comment on his honesty, and I have not used his services, but if it seems like a good deal for you, go for it.

 

I had a Vegas Rover card. Just the basic one and have received an email today saying that the whole site will close effective 31st July 2015.
