That actually brings up another question though. At the Cromwell, they have the girls that walk around with tablets and take orders but the CWs actually bring you the drink. Anyone tip the order taker? I've never thought to.

I had this question, too. I gave $5 for 2 bottles of water, and I hope they pool the tips with the order-taker. The way they say "someone else will be bringing the drinks" sounds like a cue for a tip, but I didn't think about it till after we left.

I know at Harrah's Laughlin the order-takers with the tablets aren't allowed to take tips.

Sounds like my recent experience at Rio. I ordered drinks from a nice looking young lady with the tablet and after she took my orders I tried to trip but she refused to take it... She said to give it to the person who brings our drinks... Not sure if it's the same type of deal at Cromwell.

I asked a BJ dealer about this last summer, he said order takers do not take tips, they are paid accordingly, more than dealers - he didn't seem too happy about the last bit...

Same thing in Harrah's NOLA. It must be a CET rule for this kind of setup.

Our order taker at Cromwell said she made plenty of money and couldn't take tips but encouraged us to tip our server.

Over the holidays I noticed that at the Rio, they don't use the separate order taker all the time. And, I didn't really notice a pattern as to when the order taker was on duty.

Probably! They have to know how to use an iPad..whereas a dealer only has to know how to count to 21, LOL.

Even after dealer tips? That would be pretty crappy. I'd run around the casino with an iPad for $20 an hour or whatever they make. That could be one of the easiest jobs on the casino floor.

I tried to tip the cute guy with the iPad who took my order but he nicely refused saying they were not allowed to accept tips. I asked if the servers shared with them....he said no but he makes much more than they do so it comes out ok for all. If all customers tipped the servers and didn't stiff them....I would think the CW could make much more that the regular salary of the iPad guy.....??? maybe not.... lol

Yeap. I talked to one of the "Drink Ambassadors" - that's what she said they're officially called. She said they aren't allowed to take tips but it does help them if they get lots of orders though, even just water. She didn't elaborate.

OH, Boo Hoo for the poor dealer.....NOT

They do quite well if they are good dealers and if not they should move on to another occupation.

OK.... So what is the purpose of the drink taker? Does it somehow speed up the process of actually getting the drink you ordered?

It really had in the past from my experience. I think the Cromwell had a bit of an advantage because it's a smaller property anyways. I'm not sure doing this would have the same advantage at somewhere like MGM for example. Wish I knew more about how the system actually worked though. Like the ambassador enters your machine number and order I assume, the same ambassador usually delivers so they must still have dedicated sections etc.

Absent tips, dealers make base wage less than minimum wage. In Vegas they make roughly $5/hr plus tokes. I can attest to a dealer being as awesome as can be and not getting anything. You have players that do not believe in tipping or do not think of it and even so who have no clue. Iv had nights where I drop hundreds into my box and nights where it was full of air when I left. At my casino we poll our tokes so it evens out but some of the places in Vegas are go for your own.
