I have played vp for at least 20-25 years, at dozens of casinos, different levels, different cities, times of day, drunk, sober, and
have never hit a royal. I estimate at least 500 hours and probably more. Yet I see people all the time win on their first trip. I even
had a friend win on their fifth hand ever. So if you want to witness a miracle, be at Mainstreet between March 15 and 18. I intend
to end this for once and all or fly home broke.

How much 5 or 10-play do you play?
If you're only playing single line, 500 hours; it all depends on your speed; but to go 160k hands (4 royal cycles without one) isn't uncommon...

Ugh my condolences...I am on a 2 year plus drought myself and probably have played about 80,000 hands of mostly single-line (where the average person would "expect" 2 Royals with that amount of hands). If you are a rec player playing 400 hands/hr, the average occurrence for a single line player would be about 100 hours of play. But going 500 hours without a Royal at that pace would still happen to 1 in 148 people. :(

And ironically, my g/f is on a 25-hour drought. She hit her first ever Royal last night after maybe ~20k hands of play lifetime. I posted the report in the non-Vegas section. My last g/f also hit a Royal in front of me at that same casino years ago and she played even less! I, on the other hand, have yet to hit a Royal in my home state of Missouri... The Royal is seriously dumb luck.

Let's both hit one in Vegas this winter!

I'm on a 2-ish year drought, I believe. I've probably visited LV 6-7 times since the last one. I don't really pay attention to how long or how fast I play. But based on the points I usually accumulate and taking an educated guess on my mix of single line vs. multi line action and denomination mix, I'd guess it's been 100,000-150,000 hands since my last one.

Edit to add: actually, last trip I spent a good deal of time playing 50 or 100 line games at Cosmo. So I might be underestimating the level of my futility.

I do hope you get a Royal. My Wife on our last Aug. trip hit a diamond royal after playing a couple of hrs. FOR THE FIRST TIME.

    And I haven't hit a royal either.

Not yet for me either...........no idea how many hours but since I can remember playing my first time at Palace Station, in 1989
, I have not hit one.

Maybe nine or ten years ago I went to the NASCAR races with a non-gambler, Vegas virgin. Had a great time! But I kid you not he hit a Royal in the Bellagio playing nickels, two or three at a time, not even max. Never played before, don't think he's played since. He does send me down with twenty dollars to bet on the Red Wings every year though. High Roller.............

Just go find a 100 play penny machine, play min bet, Jacks or Better, drop $100 in and pound away in a marathon session. Since you're just trying to hit a royal it will happen.

Been going to Vegas since I was 21. I'm 40 now and have never hit a royal. In fact I've never even hit for more than $50 on a slot machine, despite playing max bet. My friends would be like oh hey I hit for $300 over there, or $400 over at that machine. I'd just always lose everything. Heck, I've never even hit for more than $50 on a lottery scratch off, pick 3, Powerball, Mega Millions, or any other lottery game. Played bingo a few times and never even got close. lol

I don't usually play the multi-line vp. It's strange that I have hit at keno over 1k, lottery 5 times over 1k and don't really play either very much. I Told
my wife my tombstone will read : He Never Hit The Royal but died trying. Thanks for the responses.

I've been going to Vegas 2-3 times per year since 1997, and playing varying amounts of VP all that time and have never had a royal. In the last several years VP has been a larger chunk of my gambling, and still nada. It's annoying me to no end.

Well, I don't feel so sorry for my wife after reading some of these. Seven years of four to six trips a year, four days each, VP at least five hours a day to Las Vegas and Reno and she has yet to hit her first royal. I've had four or five, probably about average for our amount of play.

For those of you who are yearning for your first (or just another) royal, come to downtown Vegas March 3rd - 7th and sit next to us. We are the good luck fairies. Whoever sits next to us often seems to have extraordinary luck. Years ago at Terrible's a guy playing 25 cent JOB next to us hit two royals on the same machine in thirty minutes. A few years ago a couple flanked us at the Four Queens, drunk and having no idea what they were doing. They each hit a royal after about five minutes of play. I was slowly losing my $300 at the Four Queens progressive DB machines last year when an elderly lady sat beside me, put in a $20 and hit the progressive after a few hands. In December we were playing the progressive BP machines at the D when a guy sat next to me and announce that his was the lucky machine and he was going to hit the progressive, as he'd done three years ago to the day on that same machine. We chatted as my wife's and my $100 slowly ratcheted down, and sure enough after about 30 minutes he got a royal. He upped his bet to max $1 and got a quad less than ten hands later. Even works for slot machines. The next day we were playing at the Downtown Grand when a woman sat down at a slot machine near us, bored while her friends were having a conversation. She slipped in a few bucks and began playing. My wife walked past her, and I said "Now you've brought her good luck." Just about then she yells "I just won $400!" She was so excited. She said she hardly ever plays and had put $5 in the machine.

I can't say our luck is bad, it's just average. We've never had simultaneous winning trips, and generally end up down overall. As I say, I don't mind helping pay a few paychecks or utility bills, I just don't want to help them pay for any new buildings!

I feel for all of you.

When we moved to Vegas, my wife hit 11 Royals, .25 all single line, in our first 9 months there. For the next year and a half, she never hit another.

We had to move back to WI and just visit 5x per year for her to hit another, but she definitely has her mojo back. 12 more since Oct 2011.

My wife hit her first Royal before I ever hit one. That was 4 years ago and she hasn't hit one since. A year later, I hit my first Royal at Bugsy's Bar. The Royal was dealt to me. The next day at the same bar, two of my friends each hit Royals. The next year I hit four Royals. Last year I didn't hit any. My wife and I have been Diamond players for the last 4-5 years. We make Diamond by playing 25 cent VP and rarely get daily bonuses. That's a lot of VP. Hopefully this year one of us will hit. Good Luck!!

Holy cow. That's a lot of vp if it's single line.

I think this discussion is a good example of how misleading probabilities can be. Yes you calculate how unlikely it is to go 160k hands without a Royal but the machine has no memory. I hit a Royal at MSS after Christmas then another in reno last weekend. I was playing 2 hours a day at most.

I'm a witness to a guy getting TWO spade royals at the bar at Paris a few years ago within a very short timespan.

Personally, it's been a few years. Last one was at Hard Rock.

I must be really Lucky, I have hit a Royal 2 of the last 3 times I went to mystic Lake (In Mn) playing less than 90 min each. (my friend gets a free room Every weekend there) since the best VP Bonus Poker payout there is just 93% I just go with $20 and practice my play and Drink & Smoke (We have Liquor In the room which I bring to the casino in one of the casino's glasses)
2 trips ago I hit 3 Royals in the same bank of 8 (5 cent Bonus Poker) at the Four queens in 2 days.

My Royal history is varied. I have had the good fortune to hit a Royal on consecutive nights on the same machine in the same suit at the same VP Bar. (Harrah's New Orleans) OTOH- It was a long, long time before I hit my first one. Since breaking the ice, I have hit seven. I am currently on a 17 month non-Royal streak which I hope to break before the end of this summer.
