value of Wynn room comps - should I even bother?

a few trips ago I got assigned a host at encore, this person is a director of player development, so i'm not really sure why she grabbed a low player like me. (typically 4k slot points + around 6hrs of bj at low 100's average / day)
for some reason i never get the seasonal marketing offers anymore (just slot tournaments) but if i email her she offers a comped rooms. (never anything more) typically I will get some food comped on the backend.

for my upcoming trip she booked me in a resort room comped, but mentioned if i'm not going to play it will be casino rate 199/149. which is a little insulting since i've never low played.

just for my own information i inquired about airport transportation, but she said i don't qualify but the concierge could book it for me for $150

so basically i don't expect her to do anything for me more that the bare minimum i qualify for comp wise.

typically I like to stay in the tower suites,(this is only the 2nd time shes booking a comp for me, i usually just pay) so i inquired what kind of play it would take for a comp over there and she said ts room +200 fb would need $1k ave 4hrs a day which is way above my play (and sounds very high!)

so the more i think about this "free" room the more i'm thinking i should just pay for my own room. does this seem crazy?

with the comp i would have to play off the casino rate correct? so for 2 nights, that's $350

through amex fhr, i can get the tower suite room for under $675 with all the taxes and stuff, but it also includes:
$100 spa credit , $80 day breakfast credit, room upgrade to a parlor suite if available (i'm have good success in the past), 4pm checkout
tower suite would also include wifi which i wouldn't be getting free in the comped room, as well as garment pressing..

since i usually use the spa and eat breakfast, you can subtract full value from those, since i'll be paying that in either room.

so subtract those it's like $415. Since i typically have plenty of f&b for them to comp off, with the paid room they would start on the f&b right away since the room can't be comped.
so i would get $350 in food comp before i'd hit the same place comp wise as the "free" room

so that's like i'm paying $65 for the upgraded room (as well the addons that come with the tower suited) late checkout, and possible room upgrade

this logic hinges on the idea i'll have more f&b charges then comp which even on a solo trip i think will be the case. it falls apart if i get up big and gamble a lot more that usual since they can't touch the room but at that point who cares about the extra cost?

am i missing something else here? seems like a no brainer to cancel the comp room and just pay out of pocket

Your logic is sound!! For the money I vote (like it seems you do) to just pay and then their is no pressure to hit any play level!

Is there some reason that you HAVE to stay at the Wynn?

You can get an equal room (suite) and probably better comps across the street at V/P.

Yes, paying for the room is definitely an NPG (no pressure to gamble) trip.

This makes good sense and there's no pressure / issue with the host. Amex fhr is a good deal for sure. Enjoy!

I would never ever accept this kind of offer.
I would plainly tell the host "you keep this f**king offer to yourself and I am going to stay/play next door at V/P".
I only accept offer with no condition. If I low play it, there may be no future offers. That's fine. But for the current offer, I don't want to see any condition.

She doesn't write in english very well,(and always in all caps) so it is hard to tell, but i don't think that i would have to pay on a low play.
"2 NIGHTS COMP @ ENCORE , PLEASE MAKE SURE YOU PLAY TO COVER THE 2 NIGHTS IM GIVING YOU .

IF YOU WILL NOT BE PLAYING THE CASINO RATE WILL BE @ $199 $149 ."

she didn't actually check my previous play until i started asking about transportation.

I guess it doesn't have to be wynn, that's just where i usually end up. wife doesn't like bellagio or cosmo (since shes not going i guess it's not a big deal)
no play history at V/P at all, perhaps its would be worth a shot, but i tend to get lost walking through there and don't care for the smell to be honest.

i'm thinking, pay my own way and split my play between wynn and bellagio/aria/maybe cosmo rather than just playing at wynn

I do exactly what you are proposing, except at Bellagio and via Virtuoso. I see the on duty host at check out and get some food/beverage comped. Book with FHR if you're staying at Wynn.

Man you have a terrible host! If I were you I would book a room myself at the Wynn and play the way you want. I would get a new host and build a rapport with them. Also let them know your prev play and I guarantee you will be coming in comped without having the stupid remark "PLEASE MAKE SURE YOU PLAY TO COVER THE 2 NIGHTS IM GIVING YOU . IF YOU WILL NOT BE PLAYING THE CASINO RATE WILL BE @ $199 $149 ."

6 hours a day at 125 or so avg and some slot play will get you room comps and some food. maybe not tower but resort Wynn room for sure. Give it another try. The Wynn is worth it.

Free your mind, your ass will follow. Solid plan for three reasons:

    1. The host's offer qualifications (comped, but may not qualify and then you pay casino rate) were BS.

    2. You will get comped regardless on the back-end, if you decide to play or play longer / higher than expected due to a decent run.If not, and you decide to play as you wish / little / not at all, you are down $675 at the most, far less money spent than you would be if you played and lost at the level of slot and BJ play the host is looking for.

    3. Your trip is dictated on your terms, not your host's salary/bonus structure. Enjoy your trip. Play as much or little as you like. Many here claim there is no pressure if you play w/ comps or use a host, but casinos are billion dollar businesses and they use every angle to separate you from your money. They would much rather give you "free" rooms and other amenities, using the gamblers psychological profile of wanting something for nothing, to have you play for more money, at longer hours, on their terms.

If you go this route, make sure to book the room directly from the Wynn, using their discount codes, vs. some hotwire or other promo rate. Most casinos balk at or will not back end a comp on a room paid via a third party. I've had it done before, not at the Wynn, but it was a pain in the ass and some places, including possibly the Wynn, may not consider it.

On a side note, I just got back from the Wynn and they switched the music from that Brazilian Jazz mix which really helped me chill and get into a good drinking /gambling buzz to standards and classic rock (Steely Dan, Sinatra, etc.). The songs weren't awful, but I missed my Wynn mix, and wondered why thought the mix needed changing.

Viva regarding the music, I think they change it every so often now... For example when I was there before Christmas and it was all holiday music. Like you I prefer the "old" play list.

Thanks for the info. Hoping to possibly get a low roller offer after playing a few hours chasing a $6K RSF Progressive (7/5 BP). Will return in June, hoping they reclaim the mix. The Holiday mix makes sense, and I like the crazy Vegas juxtaposition of a religious holiday mixed with Vegas gambling degeneracy.

They should give resident poster lainev lifetime comps to serve as resident music programmer.
