We are meeting in Las Vegas from 3 different states. I have never rented a car there. I would be the one stuck driving, I am from a small town, a traffic jam is when we get stuck by our bridge going up to let a tugboat through. However I have driven in San Francisco and Los Angeles, and while it isn't my favorite thing I can do it.

We are staying 2 nights at three different hotels. Harrahs, The D, and the Jockey Club. So we will need transportation from airport to Harrahs, harrahs to D, D to Jockey and then back to airport. We are a frugal bunch so I was trying to decide if it would be worth it to rent a car to transport us those 4 times. I looked into a limo, but that's more than anyone will want to spend (I thought maybe for airport shuttles). If I figure in parking costs, and shuttle bus time to car rental etc is it worth it?

Looks like its about $200 to rent for the 6 days. I'm leaning towards just getting cabs since they can hold up to 5 people. I guess I am more concerned about getting into the correct parking garage for these hotels... is it confusing? I know this is long but I guess I'm just looking for anyones 2 cents!

    Thank you

I'd just cab it, but many on here consider stepping into a cab the same as making a deal with the devil. Renting a vehicle in Vegas is easy enough (I do it monthly) and the places you've mentioned are easy to find, as are the entrances/garages, but I think you have plenty of people to split up the cab fare... that many people in a rental vehicle would be awful distracting to the driver in a new town IMHO.

I'd cab it if I were you. Unless you were planning on taking a couple trips away from your hotels (shopping, off strip restaurants, etc) it doesn't save you any money to rent a car. From a liability standpoint you would be the one on the hook should anything bad happen and that's assuming your friends pick up their share of the gas and rental as well.

I agree with cabbing it as well.

Less hassle of trying to navigate traffic and park, plus you don't have to worry about who the DD is.

Take cabs, you'll be splitting the fares.. I used to rent a car upon arrival for the single purpose of hitting a a couple of stores on the way to the hotel, but I stopped after a couple of years because it's just too much of a hassle. You'll end up in the wrong lane for turns, etc. There's too much distraction when you're not from there.

I would say car. It is not hard to get around Vegas and it is so easy to either park in the garage or valet. It is great to go out and explore other casinos, see the sights (Hoover Dam, Red Rock, etc), and even stop by a store for things like sodas, waters, snacks. (Bring a collapsible cooler). The choice will also depend on if you like to go out beyond where you are staying or if drinking is involved.

Thank you everyone. No one wants to be DD so we wouldn't be able to go anywhere else with it.... bunch of lushes! So thank you everyone for the replies. Going to a store would be nice, but since we are changing hotels every two nights we would be dragging that with us anyway. I'll just sit back and let the cabbie deal with traffic and tell the frugal ones to cough up their share of the fare!

If it is your first time there, use cabs and walk. The amount of traffic at times is crazy and some of the streets IIRC are like 10 lanes wide. (5 in each direction) It is easy to miss a driveway or a turn and then get screwed as you need to get around the block for a second or third time. Learn the strip and then rent on your second or third trip.

30 years ago? I'd tell you to rent the car.
    Today?
No way. Take cabs everywhere while you continuously enjoy the freedom to drink as much as you please, whenever you please!
Oh, and rather than splitting fares each time, you may find it easier to have one person pay all of the cab fares out of a pool you set up ahead of time...say, $30 each.
That should just about cover you.
Oh yeah - don't forget to tell your cabbie picking you up at the airport - "Harrah's - No tunnel, OK?"
If he does as you instructed, is friendly and actually loads & unloads all of your party's luggage, then give him a good tip...say, $30 total (fare+tip) when you get to Harrah's.

We took a limo on our last trip and it was $115 which included a return trip to the airport, not including tip. You get an hour each way, which is cheaper than a cab if you use the whole time. You can ask them to stop off to pick up liquor, fast food, or other things you might want to get.

Used to be you could come out of the airport and hop in a limo and get a ride to your hotel for less than $10 a person. I think we did it 3-4 times and paid $7 each. You can also get limo rides to the airport from the hotel. Just need to time the departure right so that the limo is going where you need and wants to make a couple extra bucks.

Cab it or take a limo. If doing a limo, contact a few places and explain your situation. Maybe they can offer something at a good price.

With a car you always have to go back to it. Without a car you can walk the strip and pick up a cab whenever you get tired.
