I have a very large collection of hardcover sports books, mostly baseball, that I'm looking to sell. Has anyone here had experience selling books on Amazon.com? I'd be very interested to hear about your experiences and if you'd recommend them or eBay or some other method. Thanks in advance.......

I used to sell my old textbooks on Amazon, and had great success compared to eBay!. They sold quickly and at a much higher price. I never had an issue with non-payers or bid drama like you may have on eBay.

I've sold several items on Amazon. It's a pretty simple process. However the one drawback is that it can take up to 45 days to receive your funds, if that is a concern for you.

Also used to sell old textbooks. Very easy process. Try shipping them as media mail through the post office and it is often a cheaper method than the alternatives.

My sister started a side business with half.com years ago. It got absorbed eventually by Amazon I believe. She lives in Albuquerque and hits the Flea Market once a month, snagging good books very cheap. Makes over $10K a year to supplement her retirement and has never had a problem selling, getting paid or shipping. Great part time, low effort business for her.

    Good luck to you!

EBay owns Half.com... But Amazon maybe bought your sisters business. I'd suggest ebay or half.com but disclosure is I work for ebay :)

It's been awhile but I've done it. It's a pretty painless process.

Why would it take 45 days to receive funds? Amazon disperses payments twice a month. The first one might be delayed, but other than that, they are like clockwork.

To answer the OP's question, yes, it can be a good experience, but there are some negatives too. To save on shipping costs, use media mail and make sure you get tracking on all orders. One of the big problems book sellers have is shipping to prisons. A lot of times, the buyer says the book(s) never arrive at the prison and they will win the dispute process. Unfortunately, you must ship all orders. Otherwise, you risk having your account cancelled for having poor performance.
