So I tried to cash an expired $150 ticket at Venetian today and after speaking to a supervisor was told they would not cash it. Now I know for a fact these casinos usually will pay on these, I've worked in casino audit for a large casino company and that company always paid expired tickets. This is more about the principle than anything, a Fortune 500 casino company with billions in profits is welching on a bet, they should be ashamed. Any ideas on how to fight this or who to contact to try and get this paid?

I am surprised they would not cash it.

    How old is it?

Back during the 2010 World Cup my girlfriend made a bet on the winner. I didn't go back until January 2011 for the Super Bowl and of course the ticket was expired. This was also at The Venetian.

I did have some hoops to jump through though...they made me come back on the Monday after when the accounting office was open. The book manager had to approve it and he was a bit surly about it but he told me to come back in like an hour or so because the accounting office had to "re-open" the ticket so it could be cashed. It wasn't for more than $200...so right in the same ballpark as you.

Ask to talk to the sportsbook manager and escalate from there...

Tried escalating it and got no where. Went to Palazzo to try there and was told Cantor Gaming won't honor an expired ticket. The ticket was from May.

If it was pre-Cantor, you could always try to ask someone at the cage to see if they could help you out.

If it's a Cantor ticket, you're out of luck. You're not dealing with the casino. You're dealing with Cantor.

Years ago I cashed an expired ticket at the Venetian. That was pre-Cantor though and they were happy to honor it.

Damn good point on it being Cantor, unda. I didn't even think about that.

When did they take over? I don't think it was Cantor in 2010 when I had my expired ticket.

Maybe try finding a contact at Cantor Gaming and see if they can help?

Yea I realize that now. I Think it looks bad for Venetian allowing this to happen in their casino. Certainly my fault for not cashing soon enough but wow really unethical.

    Unethical?

Don't get me wrong, I think it is weak. And I certainly wouldn't fault you for taking your business elsewhere.

    But unethical? Please explain. :confused2:

Right, the terms and expiration are printed right on the ticket. Allowing exceptions is a courtesy, not to be assumed to be expected. If I allow my drivers license to expire should I tell the police officer it's "unethical" to write me a summons for having an expired license?

Cantor took over the sportsbook at The Venetian back at the end of November 2011, so the ticket would be one of theirs if its from May this year.

Its not unethical, a rip off or them welching by not paying off on the ticket: if its expired they can honor it, but they aren't required to - you had time to go in and cash the ticket or mail it in to them, they aren't responsible for you forgetting or not feeling like it and waiting so long.

That said, they usually do cash expired tickets. You might want to think back to your interactions with staff and supervisor and think if you came across in some way that would make them not want to help you - usually if somebody is nice and pleasant others are nice and pleasant back (or maybe thats just the Canadian in me talking?)

I believe it is unethical to accept a wager and not pay a winner. The whole point of expiring tickets is so casinos know where they stand financially. Each day accounting adds un cashed expired tickets to the win and subtracts expired paid tickets from the win. It should not be used as a way to cheat winning gamblers. It would be similar to selling gift cards that expire which is illegal in California at least.

Cantor gaming does not cash expired tickets I found out at Palazzo. I wasn't rude or anything. Also you accept a wager, you pay if you lose is my code and most casinos code. I know why it is neccesary from an accounting standpoint to have the expiration date but if you're an honest business you pay what you owe even if ticket is expired.

I can see both sides of it.

I think they should accept the ticket and cash it out....mainly as a goodwill gesture. We're not talking a huge sum. Of course it is up to us, the bettor, to adhere to the rules too.

If memory serves correct I was ready to accept the fact that they wouldn't cash mine and I would have had no one but myself to blame because I didn't go back in time or mail it in.

I'd give it one more whirl to try to get it cashed and if not then you can stay away from the Cantor books as a protest and give your money to the Wynn, MGM books or CET.

I will stay away even if they do pay it. I contacted CG corporate and they asked for details on the bet so I will see if that works.

I really think this is dumb from a business standpoint as well. I mean the negative word of mouth they will get from me will be incredible not to mention all my personal future business they won't get.

I hear ya...good luck and hopefully they'll cash it for you!

I wouldn't hard line it if I were running the place...I'd make exception (assuming it was within my ability to do so without upper mgmt getting pissy)

Yeah... good luck getting it cashed. Definitely wouldn't hurt to try again with different staff.

The way I look at Cantor is that they're a business... and it's not the hospitality business. They don't lure you back to the sports book with comps and such. The Venetian takes care of that and then you spend your money at the sports book once you're there.

They need to make money to show a good bottom line to the Venetian for allowing them to operate inside the casino. One easy way of doing so is not cashing expired tickets.

So I definitely understand why they do it even if I don't agree with it.

Good luck. You have me searching now for some opening week (nfl) winners that I bet at Paris the last week of August. I had sort of set them aside until the season ended so that I could cash in my Buffalo Bills "over 6.5 wins" ticket at seasons ends. Didn't look till today at expiration -120 days from 9/4/2014. About $200.00 total. Mailing them today and keeping fingers crossed !

My personal feeling is that it's better to try to cash expired tickets in person.

I think it's much easier to deny a claim sent in by mail rather than telling someone to their face they you can't honor a winning ticket.

I won't be in Vegas till march 18th so I figure they will honor now or send them back (with a note about 5/10 days too late) . When icky there for March Madness I'll give it the personal touch. There's actually a guy who works the sports bar at Paris (where I bought my winners) who is from Buffalo ( where I live). If need be, ill search him out. I'm sort of kicking myself for not even thinking about these tickets till I saw this post.

Thanks Dummy for posting by this!!!

Don't worry, a CZR or MGM property will Definetly cash an expired ticket.
