Anyone know what the actual odds are when you play the ACROSS and bet all the non-point numbers? I'm a low stakes player ($5 tables, please! LOL), but I'll almost always bet $26/27 across when I have the dice or I see a hot roller in addition to backing up my own bet. How much does that bet increase the house edge?

Each number is a separate bet and carries its own house edge. 6/8 edge is 1.52%; 5/9 edge is 4.0%; 4/10 edge is 6.67%. Place betting the 5,9,4, and 10 are sucker bets, although I often bet the 5 and 9.

Interesting chart Hogman, I never see anyone buying the 5 and 9. Anyone here do it?

I gamble a lot in Tunica and they let you buy the 5 and 9.

I typically bet across, and play the hardways (always working). I play turning red and world on the come out rolls. I do CE and field bets every so often.

That's a very good chart. One disadvantage to betting the Don't side is that you miss the opportunity to place bet. There have been many discussions on Place Bets to Lose, but no land casinos offer this bet. Some on line casinos do.

For a do bettor if you're buying the numbers across the board the house edge is higher than if you were to bet a pass line bet with odds, and then two or three come bets with odds, but you can get up right away if the shooter is hot.

It is important to bet the correct amount on each number to realize the maximum payout for that number. See the "Wizard of Vegas" web site for more information on this topic.

As far as the Hard Ways that's OK if you're only betting a buck or two, but you might as well go over to the Roulette Wheel and bet on red or black.

There are so many people out there that will tell you what you should do with your money it's not funny. The most important factor in my opinion is to have knowledge of the game before you risk those hard earned dollars. I have seen so many folks play various games with a little knowledge, just enough to shoot themselves in the foot. Gambling, like Golf should be a hobby. You wouldn't play for money if you didn't know the game, or would you?

A man once was lost in the fog in London, and he happened upon a Bobby. He then asked the constable: "How does one get to Carnage Hall?" The Copper replied; "Practice, Practice, Practice"

Had a lot of fun and three really good rolls betting across with max odds - but ultimately left all my money at Harrah's in New Orleans playing this way

What does this mean exactly? And what is the benefit/reason to have them working v. not working?

    Thanks

Working means that they are active bets for the come out roll. The advantage to have them working is if a hardway is rolled to establish the point, you win. Obviously if they are not working you don't win. The disadvantage (while working) is that if a 7 comes up your bets lose. I never have my hardways working on the come out roll.

Yep, correct. Although, on the comeout I also play turning red and world which covers my hardways if a seven hits.

It's interesting because some places always work the hardways and I've been at casinos that never work the hardways on the come out.

Then I've had the experience where I tell them I want my hardways working always and have the casino refuse to pay. And, I've had my bets pulled down when I wasn't working the hardways on the come out at a casino that doesn't work the hardways on the come out.

You just need to find out the rules of the casino you're playing at and make your intentions clear when you place your hardways bet.

Most places I've seen always take the hardways down on the comeout roll unless you specify that you want them working.

Played at NYNY in November and found out that they always have the hardways working on the come out when the shooter rolled a 7 and I lost the dimes that were on the hardways.
