Hard Rock during AVN

So, first time actually staying at the Hard Rock next month. Have enjoyed my time there in the past and have gone up there the last few years to check out the Adult Entertainment Expo. This time, it was about as cheap to stay there as anywhere so I decided to book 2 nights of my trip there. Have had pretty decent luck hanging out at the bars there playing video poker over the years but should I be excited or frightened or both to be there with a bunch of porn stars? I assume the rooms are at least pretty good? Any thoughts or advice are welcome.

 

A couple years ago I had a client set up at the companion adult novelty expo at HR and I remember his room being decent. Nothing special but it was fine. Some of the porn people hung around the hotel in the evenings, especially at the start of the week before most fans arrived for the convention, but at no point would I describe it as a bunch of porn stars hanging around the casino. A lot of them told us they still go to Venetian to hang out in the evenings because that's what they did for years when the convention was based there. The only exception to this that I observed was the night of the award dinner. There were porn people everywhere before and after the dinner that night. Otherwise, you would sometimes see them walking through the hotel, but outside the convention area, we did not see large groups of them other than the night of the awards dinner

 

I'm surprised at your comment about room price... I actually moved my business visit in January to a week earlier due to prices being as high there as I've EVER seen!!! That's OK though... get it when you can get it. I've been there by accident (it's true, it's true) on the Wednesday and Thursday of the AVN's the past 2 years and found it a lot of fun. I wouldn't say the play was crawlin' with porn stars, but I sure saw my share of them. A couple of entourages later on in the evening were a very lovely sight. The whole place "perks-up" for this event and I can only imagine what it's like over the weekend. I'm told there a lot of "private" parties going on in the baller-suites that would be nice to score an invite.

 

The nights I will be there are Wednesday and Thursday. Believe or not, I checked out the prices directly from the AVN website and both nights were only $129. For some reason, everything else seemed to be more or close to that. Is there something else big going on that week? I can't imagine porn fans filling up the whole city?

Actually there are a bunch of large conventions that week. Looks like it is going to be quite busy. In some places I checked, the rates were actually cheaper over the weekend.

 

Yeah, the SHOT show is a big thing that week as well. You are actually more likely to meet gun enthusiasts than porn people on some nights that week, particularly at the main circle bar of the HRH. The furthest circle bar, where they set up a live band last year, is where most of the adult industry people have tended to congregate at the start of each evening and again in the early hours after all of the parties and events that are scattered throughout Vegas.

 

Main circle bar always seems to be crowded. I prefer the back bar in the newer part of the casino. Have actually spotted a few girls there over the last few years. More laid back and the bartenders are usually pretty cool. Just going to take it as it goes. Will definitely post a trip report if anything interesting happens.

 

Anyone been to the actual AVN Awards show on the last night?

The actual awards show is boring and not worth the $200 or so price. It is also shown on tv, Showtime, so there is no nudity or anything of interest. Sometimes the comedian or musical act are ok, but mostly it is painful to sit through.
