I am staying at the plaza for 5 days this January. I haven't been too vegas since 2011. I don't want to miss anything, whats new and exciting to do, see or eat
Since 2011? hmm. Mob Museum DT Grand Slotzilla TheD remodel Container Park Pizza Rock BBQ joint at Binions I guess there's always something new in Vegas!
At the Plaza, many changes since the remodel, but the Beir Garden out front, fewer machines on the floor. No Tito machines, you need to go to the cashier to cash out. Vegas Club has a large gift shop in the front and over half the back is closed off. They are remodeling the Pioneer Gift Shop. Many of the Casinos now have bars that are open right on Fremont, There is a stage out side the Golden Gate. There is no view of Fremont Experience from the Plaza due to Slotzilla Main Street is still tore up from Road Construction. The View Bar and Patio are now gone with the renovation of the D The Old Lady Luck reopened as the Grand The Gold Spike, renovated, reopened and then closed it casino, but is now renting out hotel rooms again. Casino is now a big game room with pool tables, foosball etc.
Yes, I'm pretty sure that's what was meant. Plaza has TITO slot machines. But I recall they installed 1 redemption machine after people complained. Don't tell me they took it away. That's dumb.
That would be really stupid. HOWEVER it is alot better than the way it used to be at The Gold Spike where you actually had to wait for an attendant to come and hand pay you for ANY slot Win/Cashout. Imagine the embarassment cashing out for .19 cents and having to wait for a hand pay. I will head down there today and see if there is a TITO machine to be found and report back here.
You had to beat me to the punch huh Bonnie? lol Blonde is correct. There is ONE LONE TITO machine just as you enter the main casino entrance located next to the Zuma frog machines. Also just tried pop up pizza for the first time. YUMMY!
Main St. is now completely open in front of the Plaza and Main St. Station. Lanes were closed for months. Looks like they are still closed south of the Plaza. The California Noodle House is now open at the California Casino. Open daily at 5 pm. The main cashier there has reopened after being closed for remodeling.
Yes. I'm interested too. Not sure when I'll be heading out to Vegas and I usually stay at the Cal. Anyone who can share info and experiences at this new eatery, I'll appreciate it very much!
I was there early Dec., was still there but for me was easier just to go to cashier since I was always on the other side of casino. Also, not sure if anyone mentioned, Pop Up Pizza. You get a coupon for two cheese slices and a drink for maybe a buck off. The only coupon I've used on two trips last year.
There have been many new developments downtown, most for the good. My brother lives in Vegas, posts here periodically, and maintains a twitter account with the latest happenings downtown, which may help with current events. New places we like to check out include Pizza Rock, Eat, Sigma Derby at The D, and the Thai place down Fremont East. Old favorites include the remodeled Atomic Lounge, The Downtown Lounge, The California (Redwood Restaurant & Bar Section & the San Francisco Bar and El Cortez and many bands playing free at the Fremont Experience band stages (and also the Sax man), Lamparrts Ice Cream (The Cal), the bars / eats at Chicago Brewing (4 Queens) and the MSS bars (dining at the main, drinking and JOB at Boars Head), and the Annual Hawaiian Festival at The Cal. Great gambling includes full pay video poker at 4 Queens, The Cal, and Main Street Station. We also try to hit AAA baseball (Area 51s, now the NY Mets affiliate) at Cashman Stadium in the Spring. The rooms are really nice at The Plaza, and other recent room remodels include The Downtown Grand (from Lady Luck), plus the new Rush Tower and remodeled Gold Rooms at Golden Nugget. Enjoy your trip and I look forward to hearing about your favorites post trip.
