There seems to be a theme here lately involving complaints about the Monte Carlo....

I returned home Sunday but have been busily teaching Planck's Law to a bunch of customers all week (look it up, boring!). This afternoon it was time to do my expenses...

When I checked out on Sunday I arrived at the VIP Services desk at MC right as they opened. The nice lady there told me she couldn't check me out as her computers had just turned on but she would email me a bill. I headed to the airport. When I got the bill I found they had comped Thurs-Sunday for me. I was in a Spa Suite. This was unexpected and I didnt ask for it as I was on expenses. Whatever.

Today I'm going through the charges. dVino dinner. $104. Plus tax. Plus tip. I remember drinking two pitchers of margaritas but that was at Tacos & Tequila, not there. I find the receipt. My dinner was shrimp appetiser, salmon, two cheap glasses of wine, $61!

I called MGM and spoke with another nice lady. She brought up what was charged to my room, $104, two guests. I emailed her the receipt showing I was there alone (it had my room number and name on it). I'm still awaiting a reply. I will challenge the charge to US Bank tomorrow if I don't hear from her by then,

I could ignore this as the company will pay and never know but it's the principle of the thing. Did the waiter "Frankie" make a mistake or....?

My question is: do you check what you charged versus what you are charged to make sure they are the same?

If it is an expensive meal, as yours was, I try to take care of it before check out morning. I know you have an expense account where I use RCs. This way I can check out through the
in room TV and not have to go through a Host or hotel desk. (CET properties) Would you have been able to check what the room charges were on your TV?
I always hate to charge to room. Have been Surprised like you were, years ago.

    Never had an issue.

Not sure how that can happen unless he typed in the tip wrong.

I always check everything. Years ago I was at a Hilton in New York and some lovely couple charged valentines dinner to my room. It's easy to write down any room number you want on a bill. It will get removed, now how much of a stink you have to raise is the wild card.

I have learned to always check my bill. Years back on the second last night of a trip, I checked the TV menu to confirm all the room charges I made. There was $80ish in porn movie charges that I didn't charge to the room.

I called down to the front desk and told them that wasn't one of my charges, they said it is because the movies were watched in my room. They called back within the hour and said they checked my players card and it showed that I was in the casino playing slots and not in my room. They removed the charges.

Guessing the cleaning staff needed some excitement.

I always monitor the tip charges since these are hand written. I haven't had serious problems with land based hotels, but if you cruise, I have caught several mistakes. Cash is not used on board so every extra appears charged to your cabin. Even in Las Vegas, try and remember all the drinks you bought for yourself and your wife throughout the day. Add in restaurant charges, retail purchases, salons, last minute show tickets, etc... On long stays, I always check my bill at the half way point to make it easier when departing.

I do check mine....but mine is minimal.

I know I don't play enough to rate any comps outside of a cheap room, so I very rarely charge anything to the room. I look at the $ total and number of line items there are in the billing and know within a hundred bucks or so. Checkout on the television I enjoy too........usually get a hard copy mailed to me.

Have had to talk to people a couple times about the mini bar though , an accidental bump can cost ya' !

Yeah I have tip issues every so often but never for a large amount.

I always try to make the total add up to a round number. Then I look at my credit card and it's not round.

But I can't ever be sure if I added wrong or wrote an illegible number or whatever and it's only a few cents either way so I let it go.

I check my folio on the TV every morning to make sure Resort Credit is being applied correctly and that there aren't any charges I didn't make. The sooner you notice something, the easier it is to fix.

The only problems I've ever had is a couple of minibar charges and duplicate internet charges.

It's easy enough for a waiter to type in the wrong room number or amount, I have no idea what kind of check they run at the terminals to see if you're actually staying in the room you're charging to.

    I am smart! SMRT! Smart!

    - Homer Simpson

If it wasn't for scientists and engineers you wouldn't have a computer to type on, a car to drive in, a road to drive nor a building to live and gamble in! Try building a slot machine out of rocks!

Just because we are always right all the time doesn't necessarily mean we are arrogant!

    I hate blue cheese!

Yes, everything is well although the gambling Gods were angry with me for the whole trip. If I slipped on a banana I wouldn't have even hit the floor.

By the way I don't normally check my folio on the TV every day. Should I? Sure! Here is proof.

When you spend 200 plus nights a year in a hotel somewhere and rack up a couple hundred grand in expenses you aren't normal and don't have a normal job! I Put in 60 to 80 hours a week and have developed certain routines over the years to survive. One of them is thoroughly checking the room when I get to it (previous thread) and a circuit through the room when I leave. Once my mind is made up that I have to go, I do. I usually get a hotel bill under the door and may glance at it but usually don't. In Vegas most of the charges are viewable on the TV but this was the first issue there.

My biggest catch was in 1999 in Kansas City when the hotel didn't slip a bill under the door the day I went to check out. I went to the desk to ask why. My card had been declined! Three days in a hotel! Maybe $300 and it declined? The lady said no, it was the $5000 plus bar tab I had signed for! I protested and they actually did come up with the receipt. It had my name, room number and a signature on it. Unfortunately for them the person was left handed and the signature looked nothing like the four or five pieces of ID I had. They had to eat that bill, probably fired the waiter/waitress. Funny thing, I didn't even know the hotel had a bar.

Always a good idea to check. I put this question up to hopefully save somebody some grief in the future. Be more diligent, I sure will!

I always try to pay the tip in cash, this way there shouldn't be any upon checkout.

I charge everything to the room, cause at the Hard Rock you received 10X points for every $1 spent on property. I generally do check the TV account of the charges every day (my stays are usually 2-3 days). On the rare, and I mean rare, occurrence something's not right, I just make a mental note of it and bring it up when I check out. It's almost always mini-bar related and is ALWAYS deleted from my bill, no questions asked. If I did see something larger than that, I would bring it to the desk's attention then and wouldn't wait till check-out.

The only problem that I had was at the MC, they duplicated the resort fees for all three nights. I didn't discover the mistake until I was home but the issue was quickly resolved by the MGM accounting office via email. It always pays to review the bill but you don't always need to do it during your stay, there's always recourse after the fact.

I do a decent amount of business travel and it's easier from an expense reporting purpose to charge meals directly to the card, not the room. I use the same practice for Vegas and other leisure travel, it makes the folio review very clean and easy to review. I really like EXPRESS checkout and I always use it. I dread the thought of reviewing detailed billing charges with the front desk/host at checkout - just not my style, not a good use of my time.

Even though the host writes it all off, we still go through the bill after we get home to ensure there are no extra charges.

That's a really odd reason for them to suddenly believe you. A friend or spouse could have been playing on your card (or in the room watching porn for that matter) as far as they would know.
