which are your favorite off strip casinos?

My next trip is coming up quick and I'm planning on hitting a couple off strip casinos this time. I want to rent a car and check out a few places, any suggestions? The only one that comes to mind that I would like to see is Red Rock. I have been to Green Valley Ranch, which was nice. Thanks for any suggestions.

 

The Orleans is well worth a visit.

 

I like Sam's Town, for the cheesy little laser light show, and the pretty atrium/waterfall.

 

I like the Texas Station for its excellent buffet and its massive (Texas-sized?) casino. Although I usually stay under the FSE canopy, I have stayed at "Tex". Good clean room for a decent price. Since I am usually downtown, I make the easy drive west on Lake Mead, off LV Blvd, where Tex has free covered garage parking.

Suzanne and I try to arrive at the buffet at about 10:45AM, so we can buy into the breakfast buffet just before they convert to lunch. With our Boarding Pass cards and the American Casino Guide's BOGO coupon, we can eat really well for about a $7.50 total bill. That saves more money for the $5 blackjack tables and the VP machines.

The movie theater and the massive (Texas-sized, as you figured) bowling alley are a minor plus. The only flaw is the location, at Rancho and Lake Mead. That is why I drive back to Fremont, where I spend more time in the casino cluster.

Ellis Island for me. Easy to get to. Good food. Awesome value. Everybody is friendly. They've really made an effort to update and upgrade the old girl.

 

Not to be sarcastic...BUT as crazy as this is gonna sound, I can ALWAYS find something good about ANY off strip house because they usually offer something better than the strip.... and I am INCLUDING the dumps...be it inexpensive gambling, better odds, a stronger drink , better dining deals and drink prices ( not cheap because that usually means not as good) or in some cases luxurious offerings at ( much ) lesser strip prices. And I have been to just about every end of the spectrum from the smaller NLV houses to Red Rock Canyon and those of that ilk. Ya just have realize if ya are at oh lets say the Wild Wild west casino ya aren't getting the Bellagio Aria etc...but ya wont pay top dollar for a beer or a vodka and tonic as ya would at the higher end houses. And with the posts already I agree with their responses.. Curious to see ( MANY) more responses...

 

Agree with jrinct1 about enjoying most off strip properties. I can't say I enjoy them all but I do like most with our favs being Red Rock and Orleans. We also like most of the Station casinos though Palace isn't great. We not only like the off strips in Vegas but also really enjoy any casino on the way out of town, whether it be to Primm, Laughlin, or Hoover Dam. They all have their own idiosyncrasies that make them enjoyable. Agreed they aren't top notch strip hotels but that's what makes them special.

 

Red Rock is REALLY nice. I would check out JW Marriott while in the area. Sam's Town on Boulder Hwy is unique. South Point and M are nice to see in the south.
The nicest casinos are really on the Strip. Off-Strip casinos are great for better pay on the same games, so depending on which game you play, certain casinos would give you a better chance to win...or at least play a lot longer with your bankroll. Off-Strip casinos are also known for better prices on their food and better food specials, so depending on what style of dining you like, certain casinos will have better deals than what you get on the Strip. In fact, the savings of eating and gamling off Strip usually more than covers the cost of having a car during your stay. It makes for a much more diverse trip.

Examples: I like to play Jacks or Better video poker. On the strip it costs $25/hand to get the best pay back. At most Off-Strip casinos I can get the best pay table for $1.25/hand. With some other video poker games I can even find machines that on average will pay out more than what is put in...they're casino loss leaders! When eating, I like Sushi. I can go to NOBU in Caesars Palace and get a great sushi dinner for about $150/person or go to Todai in Planet Hollywood for a mediocre sushi buffet for about $30/person. With a car I can go Goyamen Sushi for great all-you-can-eat sushi for about $30/person. Great food at the lowest prices. Stations has graveyard special breakfasts at $1.99...try finding that on the Strip!

 

Sams Town and Orleans both have the best selection of the machines I like to play.

 

You got lucky. Every single reply so far has been good. I would add South Point, not for anything special that it has, but just because it's a good all-around casino. Large, generic but nice rooms, decent gambling, pretty good comps.

 

Silverton is great, especially if you are hitting the other southern casinos,

 

Alright... put me down as pretty much the VMB's sole Hard Rock Hotel supporter! I've done the Strip and downtown. I've been in most every off-strip and locals joint in Clark County and I still come back here. The staff treats me very, very well (except for the servers at Mr. Lucky's who leave my food under the heat lamps) and the HRH Tower Corner King Suites are my home away from home. I love the music and the people watchin' here. Though it still seems to be "labeled" as ****** central, there's actually a pretty solid mix of clientele.

 

I have stayed at most every locals place in town except those in North LV. RR and GVR are definitely a cut above for locals joints, but rooms rates are higher. My favorites would be Sam's Town, Orleans, Silverton, SouthPoint and Eastside Cannery. I stayed at the EC last April and really liked the rooms and service. Room rates were also very good. I would give best room nod to the Orleans, SP or EC. For food I'd say the Orleans, SP, Sam's or Silverton. VP is good at all but Silverton. You really can't go wrong with any of them so you might try what I do and stay at one you haven't been to before.

I'm a big fan of Palms. Love the rooms, dining options, staff (especially the bartenders who are a very friendly group) and they are very generous with comps.

 

I've enjoyed my stays at Hard Rock and the Palms... HR has a special place in my heart as I won a $4K jackpot there this past May 2014 (6 hours before I was checking out)

 

THE M!!! beautiful...elegant...tasty beer...that is our off strip home...love the m!

 

M Resort, red rock, hard rock, and Palms are all worth going to.

Pretty easy obviously to get to palms and hard rock from the strip. M and red rock probably aren't $$ feasible (taxi) if you don't have a car, or can fit your visit into their shuttle schedules, especially as you can find good off strip gambling options much closer, or downtown.

Planning to visit southpoint, gvr, and maybe a few of the station casinos on my next trip. I love me a good casino tour

 

Red Rock Casino is really nice, used to stop there for lunch/dinner after hiking the canyon when i drove to Vegas. They had a great buffet, i'm sure they still do. Never stayed there, but to me, Red Rock reminded me of Pala Hotel/Casino. Which was a good thing. Of course things have changed, The area around the hotel was baron just before entering the Canyon, now there are shopping centers and condos, sort of like Cairo approaching the Pyramids.....LOL.

Basically, i visited many off Strip casinos throughout the years, some are gone, some are doing well. Because of my health issues, i can't drive anymore, so i'll usually just hop on the shuttle from the Strip to hit Rio/Gold Coast.

Hopefully i can drive once again and hit the Canyon and the Hotel like i used to.

 

I shall speak up in favour of the Suncoast. It's located out in Summerlin, close to the Rampart and RedRock mentioned above.

You can get large cheap rooms with scenic views of the surrounding golf courses (although it is annoying when they get the mowers out at dawn).

It's owned by Boyd, so on the same loyalty plan as Orleans, MSS, TheCal etc.

As a foreign visitor it is good to be close to the suburban shopping facilities in Summerlin, but I suspect most fellow VMBers have the same stores in their own town.

There is also the bonus of having the start/end of the WAX bus route in the parking lot. For $2 and less than 30mins you can get Downtown. That's cheaper and quicker than getting the Deuce and similar to the Express routes from the Strip to Downtown, (Downsides: One bus per hour and Last bus at midnight)

I don't think there's anything Outstanding about the place to be worth making the trip out there to visit, but it has a role as a good place to stay a couple of nights as part of a wider tour (I stayed on the way back from a weekend at Death Valley before flying home)

 

By the responses, everyone has a favorite or two or several. That's my case also; there's too many good joints to narrow it down to the one best of the bunch.
