I didnt realize that the National Rodeo Finals were going on the same week (Dec 9-12) that we booked our trip. Anyone know what it is like there during that time? Do the tables jump in limits? Is it more crowded than usual?

We're going next week as well, from the 8th until the 12th. The hotel rates, both on the strip and downtown, seem in line with this week and the week following our visit. That would suggest the rodeo is not a big enough event to influence things much.

I was there last December during Rodeo finals and Downtown was very busy but the Strip was quiet.

For the times that we've been there when the rodeo is on the big thing is that most people visiting Las Vegas at that time are there for the rodeo and so during the day, when all the events and happenings at the rodeo are going on, The Strip and Downtown can get very quiet... almost like a ghost town kind of feeling at times.

But then at night it does get pretty busy with long lines to get in to some restaurants, bars are packed, tables are full of players, etc.

I've been in Vegas for the last 10 years during NRF. I can't say that I notice it being any busier on the strip than most other weeks. Now Super Bowl..........THAT is a busy weekend.

While the period between thanksgiving and new years used to be one of the slowest times in vegas, it is now a fairly busy time. Casino's do a ton of promotions during these periods like tournaments, free play, etc.So, There are other things going on during that time period besides the rodeo. The great gift wrap up is going on at ceasars that draws a ton of people to all CET hotels. CET also holds slot tournaments, etc.

My first LV solo trip was going to a conference at the LVCC years ago which was the same time as the rodeo finals. I stayed at the Riviera.

I really didn't know it was rodeo finals week until I realized that the casino sound systems were all playing non-stop C&W and I would hear an occasional "Yee-Haw" come from the craps tables and there were all kinds of guys wearing cowboy hats.

No real crowds or bad lines or anything like that. I would call it slow, even with the rodeo finals in town.

The guys were perfect gentlemen. They were the kind who would hold the door for you and such.

I really think it depends where you stay. I wandered into TI one night during rodeo week, and it was wall to wall cowboys. Great eye candy for this old girl!! Yee haw :wink2:

Isnt anymore crowded than usual, just alot more cowboy hats. We go to the NFR every year. MGM gets more crowded at night because there is a after party there, and the Mirage sports book is taken over by Rodeo Vegas so its extra crowded there too. Other than that it isnt really any different than normal, you just see the rodeo crowd everywhere. If you like to shop for randomness its the perfect time to be in Vegas! the convention center, sands expo, mgm and mandalay convention halls all turn into huge trade shows Dec 4-13th!!

I just now realized the Rodeo will be starting this week and it will coincide with my trip. I've been there before during the Rodeo--it's not particularly busy, but the presence of the cowboys is pretty noticeable all over town. They are a party bunch, generally very nice--and they tend to love table games/bets with high house advantages. They are gamblers, and they drink, and tip heavily--much more so than other conventioneers. No wonder LV does whatever it takes to keep the rodeo in town.

My first trip in 2010 was during the rodeo. LVB is packed with pickups pulling trailers, so that makes traffic even worse than it normally is.

It's really not that busy. The only thing that seems affected to me are car rental rates. You have to remember the rodeo is there because otherwise there is usually nothing else happening. At some hotels, if you don't see more folks in the casino by 9 or 10pm, then you won't at all.
