My parents and I are planning on staying there for the first time (trying something new, have never been there before) on December 23rd and then heading to downtown vegas for the 24th and 25th. I used my offers from Total Rewards email for one free night, $50 free play, and $25 in resort credits. This is also my first time ever staying at a CET hotel. I have 6 questions, numbering them to make it easier to answer.

    1. Are we allowed to bring our own drinks into the casino? My family and I have stayed downtown at the Golden Nugget in the past and the Eastside Cannery and Mirage once with no problem from what I remember bringing our own drinks down from the room.

    2. When we go check-in to the hotel, what is the best room to request that is closest to the casino floor if available? like what are the options?

    3. What can I use the $25 in resort credits for? Can I use it towards the resort fee? Also from the confirmation email, it says there are 2 people in the room and we requested 3 when we called, so fingers crossed hoping they do not charge for a 3rd person in the room (email said if there is a 3rd person added, it would be 30 bucks).

    4. Is there a time limit of when I have to use my free play after checking in to the hotel and is it automatically on my card for dec 23rd and can be used anytime during that day correct? Also what slot do you recommend me using my free play on that will pay good based on your experience at the Rio playing?

5, Best places to eat that are not too expensive for dinner and then breakfast the next morning? We have choices for food between the Rio, Gold Coast, and Palms.

    6. What kind of slots does the Rio have? and how about gold coast and palms? I am a big Konami fan. My favorite are the dragon ones (Dragons Law/Voyage, Dugeon Dragons), Horse Race, Extra rewards, Lotus Land/Gyspy Fire, and ones like China Chores where you can get a lot of free games. My best luck has always been with Konami games winning a lot. Also I would like to know if they also have SINBAD there (not konami, but I think it is WMS). I love that game. I have also been looking for the willy wonka 3 reel slot that I have only seen at the Venetian and not at any other casino I have visit in Vegas yet or even at any of my locals I have been to here in southern california. I played it at the Venetian and I like it. I also liked the dollar machine big wheel that was at the Venetian too.

I don't know the exact answers for all of your questions, but I can provide a bit of information.

    1. I have never had a problem with bringing down drinks from my room into the casino, nor have I ever heard of it being an issue. The only time they seem strict about drinks is bringing them into the pool area.

    2. There are 2 towers at Rio....the Masquerade and the Ipanema. I have stayed in both but prefer and always request the Ipanema Tower. My reasons for preferring it are that it is closer to the games I choose to play plus the proximity to the restaurants. I feel like it is always a hike over to the Masquerade tower. You can request strip view.

    3. Resort credit is typically applied to your room, so basically anything you sign to your room can be used against it. Examples: restaurant charges, spa, and I would assume resort fees.

    4. When I've received free play from the Rio, I generally have to go to the Total Rewards desk for a voucher. Then I have to take it to the cashier where they provide either a slot or table voucher. I don't believe it expires on the day it is issued....in fact I believe it doesn't expire for something like 3 or 6 months. Just ask at the cashier cage and they will tell you (plus it will say on the voucher).

    5. For "not too expensive" breakfast choices, I would suggest the Gold Coast buffet which is approximately $7 per person, or the Sports Deli which is at the Rio.....it's not fancy, but the food is good. An omelette costs $14 and bacon & eggs is around $12. There's also a Starbucks at the bottom of the elevators in the Ipanema Tower. Hash House a Go Go is pricier, but portions are large if you're into sharing. For a reasonable dinner, maybe check out the All American Grill. You can probably look at the menu online.

    6. I'm not a slot player, so can't help you on this question.

Agree with the comments above. Try to get the Samba room. They were update a year or two ago. The older rooms are more dated. I believe all have a frig which is nice

Thanks for the room recommendations. We will try and request the Samba room and yes all rooms do have refrigerators. My mom's right leg is not in the best shape, so we would like to get the room closest to the elevator to the casino floor if we can.

I just saw you mention that your mom's leg is not too good. The rio has over 2,500 rooms in 2 high rise towers connected by a large, sprawling casino area. Irregardless of which tower you are placed in, there will be a lot of walking required. If her condition is real bad, you may want to make arrangements for a power scooter rental, as it does require a lot of walking to get around the place. You also mention the palms & gold coast - although they are theoretically just "across the street", walking to them is not easy.

Dunno. Never tried it. But drink service has been pretty good there IMO so never saw a need.

Rio is situated so that each Tower sorta has its own casino. But Ipenema is closer to the front desk, valet and shuttle pickup if that makes a difference.

Sounds like you are coming on a comp. They don't charge extra person fees if you are on a comp.

Gold Coast has affordable everything. I've tried half their places and have no complaints.

Rio and Gold Coast both have slot finders so you can see their inventory online now. But they should both have many of the things you are looking for from Konami.

I played Willy Wonka at the Orleans a couple of weeks ago. What a fun game!

One note: I was up to $47 profit and the machine completely rebooted in the middle of a bonus round. I thought for sure my money was gone. After about 3-5 minutes, it had completely reset and jackpot was still there. I cashed out and walked away before it happened again.

My mom can walk ok, but not fast and I mentioned about her leg to see if there was a closer room to the elevators down to the casino. There is a knot in her hamstring that bothers her aching when walking a lot, so I was just seeing what the best room was closest to the casino. The Samba room should be fine if I can get it like another poster in here recommended.

You mentioned that each tower at the Rio has its own casino...do you mean there are 2 casinos in the Rio and not just one big casino slot floor like all the other casinos or is it like the LINQ where there is a las vegas blvd entrance and then more slots by the entrance closest to harrahs?

and I just googled slot finder for the rio and they do have all my favorite games like Lotus Land, Gyspy Fire, Legion Warrior, Dragons Law/Voyage Most of the total reward casinos have these. One that not many casinos have is fortune of the orient with the records for the free games, but the Rio has it. I do not see any willy wonka listed for Rio though, which is ok. I cannot find Sinbad listed at any of the total reward casinos, so I guess I will only be able to play that at my local casino. I do not have to look up china shores/mystery or lions festival and any of the extra reward games because most of the casinos have those and they are popular. At least the Rio has all my favorite Konami games. =)

Originally there was one tower. When they built the second tower, they extended the casino. The atmosphere is markedly different between the Ipenama side and the Masquerade side but it is ultimately one big casino. Once you come off the hotel elevator, you will be right there in the casino. For comparisions sake, it would be more comparable to Caesars but on a smaller scale.

You'll have no problem bringing drinks in. My husband and I have stayed at almost all of the CET properties and ALWAYS drag a wheeled cooler in with us. Never a problem.

Thank you, my parents like making their own drinks brought from home and bringing them down to the slot floor in a plastic cup.

I am looking forward to being somewhere I have never been before and also check out gold coast and palms.

Speaking of my 50 free play I am getting from my offers, I can slot hop with putting like 2-3 dollars in each machine right? like I can do at my local casinos, or do I have to play all on one machine? I don't like staying on machines if they are not paying.

    Hi SoCalMon :

The RIO was kind of behind in installing new games ... so it is very possible the 3-reel mechanical Wonka is still waiting to be installed. The Gold Coast and Palms are just a hope away. The Gold Coast Buffet is really good and cheap as sin! It's a BOYD property, in case you have any comp lying around.

The very latest Wonka is out ... PURE IMAGINATION. I had a chance to play it a little ....

Plan: When we go to check-in, We are going to request the Ipanema Tower, which is closest to the elevators and casino floor. http://www.vegasvipbottles.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/12/rio-map.jpg is the map I used. The first slot I will play after we check-in is what I see first that catches my eye after I go to cashier to redeem my slot play ($50) from my offer for staying the night or total rewards desk (I am not sure if it is total rewards desk or cashier I go to redeem the slot play. I know at my locals, its the rewards club and not the cashier). Usually the first machine that catches my eye is the winner in that current casino I am in at that particular moment based on my experiences and especially with my local. I usually play by rewards club at my locals and also at casinos where I have to get a players card as well as slots by the casino entrances. I remember at Flamingo when I got a card, first machine I saw was the best paying one in that casino.

My goal is to win BIG off my $50 free play and not have to take any cash out of my wallet. I am going to do a lot of slot hopping.
