Our December trip is now signed, sealed and I'm waiting for delivery! It's going to be a long 3 weeks til we are delivered to Las Vegas. We decided to go for 7 days as we take our golf clubs and we are meeting friends from Scotland and we found 4 and 5 day trips just too short with all that in the mix.

    Booking Room:

We really wanted to stay at South Point as our friends stay at the Grandview. The host I spoke with told me I had free room for last quarter but nothing is showing for this quarter and offered me casino rate for the 3 nights. Am I missing something? If I have free rooms on a previous quarter would that not show my play is good enough to warrant free rooms? So, I kept calling around to other hotels. We enjoyed M Resort 3 years ago when we stayed there the rooms are really nice, decent casino and eats so I thought - give them a call. The host I spoke with offered me 2 free nights and casino rate for the 3rd night - done and booked that baby! I was hoping for casino rate, this is even better and we have a car so we can easily get around. You know in retrospect, I may have booked at casino rate at South Point for the convenience of being closer to our friends if the host had not mentioned that last quarter we had free rooms but she didn't see anything offered for this quarter.

Luxor - 4 nights on my fabulous Birthday offer!! We are lucky as no matter how long our trips are our host comps all nights in a suite plus adds our best offer with airport pick up if we need it. We are making this trip for December as it's our hosts birthday party, we always get invited but only go every few years or so, due to time of year. We have a great relationship with her that has been built over years and have become friends in the mix of it.

    Vegas Plans:

Five golf games through VIP Golf in this order:
    Tuscany
    Revere - Concord
    Rio Secco
    Rhodes Ranch
    Pauite - Wolf

My Vegas rewards DH & I both redeemed:
Zarkana 2 premium tickets - we are taking our friends that are meeting us
Monte Carlo Pub Beer and Dinner pairing

    MyVegas I redeemed
    $50FP Luxor

    Other plans:
    Hosts Birthday party bash
Adding a bit of innocence to the December Buffoonery meet and greet if I get the time ;)

Let the countdown begin.......... are we there yet??..................... are we there yet???

Sounds like you have a great trip planned I hope you all have a great time! I really wish I'd play more golf when I'm in Vegas, I played Bali Hai a few years ago and as an experience of playing golf in Vegas - it was great, and I believe there are some amazing courses to be found in and around Vegas. Hopefully I will get a game on my next trip in 2015.

Good stuff, Slot. More golf is always better than less golf! And you're catching a few of my faves in there. I'll be there next week, teeing it up three or four times.

Hey, when we were up your way last month we played Big Sky in Pemberton and Northlands. Big Sky is going on my all-everywhere bests list, for sure.

Sounds like a great trip! What's the benefit of booking through VIP Golf? Have you played any of those courses before or how'd you choose those five?

I just got back from a weekend escape where I played Coyote Springs, Los Prados and Bear's Best. Check out my trip report if you want to see photos/details.

We are looking forward to the golf as it’s gotten cool here.

Ken I’m glad you enjoyed the courses we have some real gems around BC according to my DH. I've not been out to many courses around here yet but will get more adventurous when I feel more comfortable on the golf course; I've only been golfing since last year. One thing DH has taught me "if you're not good be quick" and to pick up after to many shots and regroup for the next hole.

M_ilis - We book through VIP Golf as they have some private courses we would not otherwise get to play and we receive a discount the more courses we are booking on a trip. We price it out various ways and only use them if we find we save through them.

We have played Coyote Springs and we both loved it, challenging and gorgeous, it was in immaculate shape when we played it in September. When we played Bear’s Best we were unimpressed, but it was really windy that day; although, it was the first course I ever holed out from the bunker! It would be interesting to see how we faired on a good weather day. Our plan is to play as many tracks as we can in Vegas. So far we have played Bear's Best, Coyote Springs, Desert Pines, Badlands, Spanish Trail and Casablanca in Mesquite.

Slot, everyone picks up from time to time. At least everyone who cares about the game and those around them. So bully on you! My wife has played avidly yet sporadically since we met, and she still gets those jitters. And then every time we're out there she sees that for one person who might swing it like the club champ there are 99 of us who don't.

You have a keen interest in golf and Vegas golf. You should sniff around the internet and see if you can get a copy of my 2008 book, "Golf Las Vegas: The Ultimate Guide," published by Huntington Press (Las Vegas Advisor) in Vegas. I'd guess somewhere out there in the cyberworld a seller would be happy to part with one for a Toonie or three. It's admittedly dated, but the thing about golf courses is that the bones always are there, even if the flesh has tanned or faded, been nipped or tucked. It will give you a very good and workable framework from which to work, and of course if you have any specific questions about Course A right now, give a shout out here as we have a good-sized stable of golf nuts here. (Actually, let me go dig around my office as I might have a copy sitting around if you wouldn't mind one with perhaps a wine glass ring on the cover or some slightly mussed pages.)

Ken, appreciate the offer for the book, I think we will order up a copy for the kindle. So far no questions about courses, but I will definitely ask any arise. There are a few course on my bucket list upwards of $300 that I have a master to plan to talk DH into playing. He doesn't mind paying for golf but says very few courses are really worth that kind of dosh. I do have a master plan to get on those courses, JACKPOT! I'll be working on the jackpots in the evenings. If we didn't gamble those courses would get played much sooner; but, I love to gamble too and we are in Vegas afterall!

The Vegas pricing structure is still absurd in places, but overall it is so much more user-friendly than it was right before the crash.

The nice thing about golf is that there are GREAT inexpensive courses and there are GREAT uber-expensive courses, just as there is crap at both ends of the spectrum. That's one of the most important things I tried to key on in the book and how I like to look at the game. There is nothing wrong with $50 or $500 courses, per se, so long as they deliver value and a quality, memorable golfing experience.
