Which Boyd Property Downtown Hotel/Rooms are the nicest? And are any of them better/or just as nice as the D double rooms?

I think it's a tie between MSS and Cal for the "nicest." That being said, the rooms are not necessarily what many would consider "nice." They are clean, comfortable, and mostly spacious, but the furnishings and fixtures are far from ornate. I think The D rooms are nicer, but I stay at the Cal more frequently. The pros of staying at the Cal overall outweigh the D most of the time.

When are you hitting Vegas again? I will be downtown from the 12/7 to the 12/11.

Main Street Station rooms are a bit nicer than the California's IMO. I've never stayed at the Fremont.

I agree, the MSS rooms are nicer.

The rooms are on the small side, but your not paying a resort fee.

I've stayed in all three downtown Boyd properties many many times and now prefer MSS. There are reasons aside from the room, which really isn't much different than the Cal's. There aren't any huge differences – just where you'd rather be.

Thanks all. I booked at MSS from reviews and your feedback. Second time staying downtown (1st time was at Downtown Grand. Enjoyed it but too pricey this trip). MSS looks like an interesting place and a fun place to gamble.

The MSS has the train, The Fremont the Experience, I stayed at Hotel Cal last couple of trips and found it especially quiet as well as comfortable....if noise is important

What should I ask for in order to avoid train noise?

I am actually in Vegas right now (11/14 to 11/16) and have plans to be here again over Thanksgiving and again over Christmas.

Looks like we'll just miss each other once again.

Upper floor, low odd number, 1, 3, 5, 7, etc. They are further from the train. Even numbered rooms face the freeway.

Guess that is a matter of opinion because I like the rooms in the west tower at the Cal much better than MSS. I especially like the bathrooms which are full sized - the bathroom contains the tub, toilet and vanity all in one room. At MSS the tub and toilet are in one room and the vanity is outside the "bathroom" area. Unfortunately that might make the room seem smaller than at MSS but I never noticed it and it never bothered me if it was slightly smaller.

I don't think you can go wrong with either though.

The fremont rooms are smaller, bathrooms are much smaller also.

Generally speaking, the even-numbered floors are non-smoking, and the "01" numbered rooms are at the far east end next to Main Street.
Sooo, if you can get a room numbered 1001 or 1201 or 1401 or 1601 ... you should have a non-smoking room the farthest away from the train, looking south down Main Street, right at the Plaza.

*** We stay at MSS all the time, and the the trains have never been an issue.

I like the West Tower at the Cal more than the East Tower too. I like being closer to the Mezzanine.
