CET at it again... Resort Fees NOT comped for Platinum?

I just called CET to check on a reservation for Dec 21-26, and was told something very interesting and infuriating....

You all may want to make note of this: As of November, 11, CET will no longer waive the resort fees for Platinum card members. So essentially getting the credit card - which I did for this specific reason - is now pointless.

This goes for comped and paid rooms - per the CET rep on the phone.

Things keep getting a little worse with them.

Taking my money elsewhere this trip.

 

Wow that sucks. Now it's mostly a glorified line cutter. And remember to use your virtually worthless High Roller tickets!

If you are a significant player though, they might comp off the resort fees on the back end.

 

As far as I know the waiver of resort fee's was never a permanent benefit at the Platinum level anyway. Nowehere on the total rewards website was that ever a published benefit.

 

So you feel it is a positive for Vegas casinos to nickle and dime players a bit more each day? To each their own bro. I'd rather keep players happy and use that psychological advantage to encourage increased gaming on the floor.
However it was or was not worded is irrelevant.
This is another loss for players without endless bankrolls.

 

Aww....that is kind of sad news, I'm sure it's a reflection of where they are financially. For those that follow it, there should really be no surprise if they notice claw backs on the comps given their extreme financial struggles that have been reported for some time now. I do like CET, they have a great variety with casino's/restaurants & entertainment and specifically Caesar's represent the old iconic Vegas to me.

Makes me wonder if I should use my $100 diamond dinner this trip rather than save it for the new year.....just in case they make more changes!

 

Ohhhh I am not happy with this news, but, I did print out my confirmation back when I reserved the room (July 2) and NOWHERE does it state that there is a $20 resort fee, and it has my "total trip cost" down to the penny including the 12% tax. Now, if I were to print out my hotel confirmation today....under the "terms and conditions" in the "rates" section it has the daily resort fee of $20 BS. My trip is a 9 night trip so....its a good chunk of change.
I am wondering if I should call and question it....or just wait and until I get there and fight it. ( I HATE confrontation....lol)

If you got it just to get comped resort fees, then yes, it's pointless. I got it to earn reward credits and keep my credits active, even though I only go to LV twice a year. Thanks to that card, I have $300 in reward credits which I'll be using in a couple of weeks at Bacchanal, BurGR, and other places. Of course, if you don't pay it off monthly, it's not a good deal.

There was a thread awhile back talking about just this benefit for platinum holders, and how it was really only listed on one hard-to-find page in the corner of the Total Rewards website. I had a reservation for Planet Hollywood for this upcoming trip, and noticed when I made it (through TR.com) that, unlike in the past, it did not say "resort fees waived." So I'm not surprised this has happened.

 

They are definitely headed into bankruptcy. Lots of press anticipating a January filing.

What else can they suck out of the players? Hmmm.... They have all those parking garages! Wonder if they will be the first on the strip to charge for parking? That would generate a good bonus for their executives!

 

I would bring the printed confirmation in that you have now before this policy came in and show it to the desk clerk. I mean the policy was not in place when you made the reservation and you have proof of it, I doubt there would be much confrontation needed.

I am sure if the clerk cannot do it talking to a supervisor should. Now if you did not have the actual paper stating this then yes I could see it would be more difficult. Now if they notify you ahead of time via an email with the change in terms then I would say it would be impossible, but they do not know that you looked again at the reservation and saw it added it.

This would be like the airline charging you a higher fare at the gate, I bet you will have no issues.

 

Don't care. Rather pay resort fees then to pay for a room. It's all how one looks at it I guess.

 

It's not a permanent benefit to any level whether it was a published benefit or not. And I don't see it published for any other level in the benefits guide. But if they made reservations where people were quoted a waiver and they go back it it, they are crap. Esepcially since they are actively promoting the credit card telling people Platinum status waives the fees. I'm glad I stopped trying to worry about being at least Platinum and I will have a good time staying other places.

 

I've learned to be frugal with credit cards. Caesar's always "tempts" me with the glorious wonders of the TR Visa card..........but i choose to stay ahead of the curve. My excellent credit stays intact, my bankroll is the same as it's always been, never found a use for a TR Visa card to get anything including rewards, i use the Social Rewards website without jeopardizing my credit. I get rewards points just for taking surveys and watch videos, takes about 15 min per day.
I used to use my RC's daily in Vegas for just snacks/sodas, used from gambling, just enough to get by.
When i go to Vegas next week, i'll have over $80 plus my usual daily rewards through using the machines to spend for food, and going solo helps even more.
I also book comped rooms which negates the resort fee, basically paying about $24 per night total for the week. My rewards credits will pay for the resort fees AND some nice meals, and all because i didn't reward Caesar's with a TR Visa card, but Caesar's has rewarded ME with an increased line of credit through Social Rewards.

I use my TR Visa card as a reg CC and not as a special CC. Already up to $325 to spend on my next Vegas trip.

 

I usually pay for the in room internet at the Rio so that's most of the resort fee anyway.I will lose Platinum status also in April,but do want to take advantage of the private check-in room there one last time,that's the only perk I really used and will miss.But I'll stick with CET as long as they stay loose with the comped rooms.

 

So are they 'grandfathering' in all reservations made prior to Nov 11?? We have two sets of reservations made and just wondering if we will end up paying the resort fee. These reservations were made months ago.

 

They did "grandfather" everyone when the resort fee was first implemented. I booked the Quad (now LINQ) on Feb. 28, 2013 to avoid fees (started March 1st) for a possible May trip (which we did end up taking). I would vehemently argue if they don't do so here for platinum players. I mean your reservation didn't say you would have to pay fees when you booked it, right?

 

I figured they'd of done this quicker..considering 99% of people got the CET VISA, just TO avoid the Resort Fees.
IMHO, its so stupidly easy and low priced to earn Diamond, that almost anyone can do it, even if they're just a casual gambler...
When $250k/$500k (slots/vp) PER YEAR will earn you the HIGHEST Tier, that's cheap. (Hell, MLife Noir is like $2M THEO!!)

I don't mean to come off as a dick...but people who are complaining about Resort Fees, are people who are going to Vegas to gamble no more than $100 a day, and expect to have SCOTT-FREE rooms...if CET did that, how long do you think they'd last??

Well, in my case, its costing me $350 and I'm going solo, so its not like I'm looking for a handout. I figured I'd give CET a whirl this trip and stay somewhere different. I think I shall give them a call tomorrow and see what they say. $180 bucks in my pocket is much better than it being in theirs If there is going to be a problem I will just switch things up and split my stay (as I usually do) and spend part of it downtown and maybe i'll try out luxor for 3 days. Doing it that way will save me about 75 bucks, but I was gonna try staying put this trip lol

 

The writing was on the wall for a long time with this one. Not even a little bit surprised. They had removed any reference to comped resort fees for Platinum to any of their sites awhile ago and even from the TR credit card site. I am surprised it took this long to implement.

 

Guilty as charged but I'm not a vociferous complainer about resort fees. But we do eat at the CET restaurants. How else to cash in our RC from using our TR credit card to buy groceries and gasoline.
