Do I Need A Car?

In the first week of February (5-9) I'm attending an Archery Tournament at the South Point Hotel. Being this is my first Vegas visit i'd like to stay up on Fremont Street. Is public transportation able to get me to South Point by 6:30am? Or am I better off renting a car?

South Point is a long way even from the strip.

 

You need to rent a car. Why do think you should stay on Fremont Street?

 

Public transportation will take forever, and a cab will be expensive for that distance and the number of times you will use it.

 

Another issue of using public transportation: will they allow you to bring your archery equipment on the bus.

You must be getting free rooms and food, etc. for you to consider staying Downtown. Otherwise maybe stay at South Point and then explore Vegas through the public transport system after your daily archery tournament.

 

This sounds like great advice to me.

South Point has a shuttle to/from the strip. It won't operate before you'd need to be there for your tournament, so you're better off staying at South Point and using the free shuttle to/from the strip.

If you really want to see downtown... you can take the deuce or SDX downtown from the strip.

 

I'm getting nothing free. At all. My Archery equipment fits in a backpace, and my bow is designed to come apart like a fishing pole.

I'm a leg amputee so walking the Strip isn't going to happen, and with ADD justs make it harder. Is there anything entertaining happening once you walk out the door of South Point? Shopping malls won't cut it. I need entertainment. And I don't like being trapped.

My mind isn't made up, but I don't know if or when i'll get out there again.

Looks like you can get a rental through Kayak for $165 total with tax. The casinos on Fremont Street are packed in really tight. So, if you're able to walk some you have plenty of entertainment.

SP is in the middle of nowhere.

 

Because of the time you need to be there, you would be best off renting a car. I don't think there is a direct bus route from the strip or downtown there. Personally I would stay at South Point or at an offstrip casino closer to it and then use the rental to see other stuff but I'm not much of a drinker and I don't mind spending time behind the wheel to see more.

 

You could stay at Mandalay Bay. South Point is still a ways away but the cab fares will be far less than from Downtown.

At Mandalay you can access other Strip properties through monorail, covered walkways, and bridges. You will be able to visit Luxor, Excalibur, NYNY, and MGM without ever stepping out on the St.

While Downtown has properties that are literally within a few minutes of each other, the Strip has properties that are farther apart.

 

Does anyone know how long it takes to drive from MSS to SP via I-15 at 6am?

 

Current travel time is 16 minutes. I would guess it to be about the same at 6am.

After my last trip, I'm never going there without renting a car! I love that I can be dressed up and valet for free at every hotel. No obnoxious cab lines, no waiting, and I get to go to really cool places!
