Is it sometimes advantageous to not have your play rated?

Apologies in advance if this topic has been covered; I only post on here occasionally and not recently. I have an upcoming Vegas trip at the Aria where I will play craps and blackjack. During my serious gambling sessions I prefer to gamble alone in the high limit room for BJ or at an empty craps table on the floor. My average hand bet on trips is usually between $500-$1000 per hand during those serious gambling sessions, but I am a hit-and-run player. I usually have short sessions where I either double my session budget or lose it all. It is not unusual for me to not even last through an entire 6 deck shoe during a session. I usually only average 2 hours a day of serious gambling for a trip.

However, there are occasions where I just want to sit and drink and chill with my friends at a $25 BJ or pai gow poker table. In the past, I have always had my play rated during those sessions because my host told me that it was a good idea because those sessions would help fulfill the 4 hour a day "requirement." However, I have heard of players declining to have low play rated in order to maintain a higher bet average. Any opinions out there on this matter (with the goal of maximizing ADT and comps), hopefully with an explanation based on personal experience or actual math?

    Thanks!

Without a little more details, it is hard to say/

ANY play is factored into the mystery wheel of fortune.

The PRIMARY way they measure what is customer is worth, is his average play. That "average play" number is often debated. But, a player with lots of play is worth more than a play with little play. Simple stuff in the end. If that low play gets added into a total for a visit, then great. If that low play gets factored in as the TOTAL play and you look like a low player, well... do the math. There is no good guy, we like you stuff. Simple math.

I think me or someone else asked this question in one of PHVHost's threads. IIRC his response was basically that you should get all your play rated, it will add to your theo, and even though your overall avg bet would be lower he would be able to see that you varied your play from $700 at times to $25 at times. But check through that thread to see his response for yourself because my memory is a bit hazy.

By the way, as far as the 4-hour "requirement" at least with MLife all that matters is your theo, not your hours unless you're on some program requiring a certain number of hours. In their systems they actually calculate a "4 hour equivalent" of your average bet. So if you average 1k for 2 hours/day that number will show up as $500. If you average 1k for 8 hours/day it will show up as $2000. It is in the system, I saw it myself, but I didn't ask what its for. My guess is to just get a standardized gauge of what type of player you are.

First off, I do NOT KNOW THIS AS A FACT.

Most hosts seem to say that all play helps. They say they can see things and make adjustments. Maybe. But, the computer just does the math. Offers generated by the system can only do the math.

Are hosts overlooking this, or do they just want to see ALL the play they can, as that is part of their measurments?

Any additional play ADDS to your theo, and you should always be rated on a day when you have already played or otherwise made your presence known.

I don't worry about that sort of thing, but according to people who do, it can hurt you some to play just a little in one day. So dankyone's post above makes a point you need to consider. Better to be invisible one day than to allow small play to drag down your average. But if they know you're there, get it all in.

My expected $25 a hand gambling sessions will probably average a couple of hours a day, so based on the comments here and the input from my host, it sounds like I would be best off having all of my play rated.

I appreciate the advice from all.

Agreed, it's better to rate It all. Better to have more theoretical than less. The caveat to me is if your theo will go over with just your high level bettting alone. The few hours of lower wages won't generate much theo anyways

To each their own, but if a particular casino measures your AVERAGE play for a given DAY, then adding $100 of play on an extra day can not help raise your theo.

For those casinos that add all your play from a 3-4 day trip, then it does not matter, as they ADD it all together. But if they average daily play... what do you think adding a day or two with very low play does to your average?

    YMMV

So I will give you my two cents...when I was at Monte Carlo last year, I had never played 3 Card Poker before. One of my favorite dealers was dealing 3 Card Poker that day so I sat down. Since I had never played before I only played the table minimum of $10. One of the pit bosses who knows me told me she was not going to rate me because it would damage my average for the day, my favorite dealer agreed. My normal bets at BJ and Craps FAR EXCEED my minimum bets that I had that day at 3 Card Poker.

You are correct in that scenario but it isn't what the OP is asking about. He's talking about adding lower play to a day where he already played and was rated at his normal amount. So it will add to that day's theo but lower his overall average bet. He's not talking about adding an extra day of only lower play.

each time I have asked a host for something, they just look at the total theo. I have seen the computer screens of line by line, Date and time of average bet/buy in and color out. That list is like a crazy spread sheet that he doesn't look at. They just go to the box that has total theo and time played for my "comps"

As for "offers" generated by a computer, I assume you would be more value in the formula for higher average bet with shorter time. But I don't think even hosts really know how those online offers get generated.
