Four times a year, a local casino holds an invitational blackjack tournament. A group of my girlfriends and I are always invited. The casino invites 270 players, a free gift, cocktails, and an open buffet. It is always a fun afternoon with the anticipation of maybe getting in the final round. First place pays $10,000 going down to $1,000 for seventh place.

It truly was an out of body experience when I placed first in the finals. After 40 years of marriage, hubby and I are finally upgrading from a full size mattress to a queen, we purchased a much needed garage door, helped my daughter with a down payment on a car, nice tip to the dealer, paid it forward to a few deserving friends of mine, etc. And, of course, need to put the rest aside for taxes.

I am still in shock at being able to experience this probably once in a lifetime win.

Black Bear in Cloquet. The crazy part about it was the tournament is always on a Sunday afternoon. A group of us gals had our annual sister/BFF that weekend and I assumed we would just forgo the tourney. One of the gals says "we will just leave early and make it work". Obviously, huge tip went her way.

I live 30 minutes from The Bear and 90 minutes from Hinckley. I probably go to Hinckley 2-3 times a year and The Bear only 5-6 times per year. They are both very nice casinos and help me get through the year until my annual August Vegas trip.

    Awsome win!!

I gotta ask though, how the hell did you mangage 40 years of a full bed?!? Sometimes I feel like a queen bed is to small when it's just me.

Lol.....it is odd that after all these years we never upgraded. Initially, we never lived in a house with a big enough bedroom to fit a queen. Once we moved into a larger home, we just never thought about it.
