Thanksgiving Vegas Trip...!!!!!!!

Guys and Gals..... I am planning a vegas trip for thanksgiving weekend. Prices are dirt cheap and this year I wanted to change it up for the family a little and take a break from our normal routine. I've been to vegas several times but never during thanksgiving weekend so I have a few questions. How is the crowd during this time and are the pools still open. I've been hearing conflicting stories that majority of the vegas pools close after labor day. Also, anyone who has any tips about traveling to Vegas during this time are most definitely welcomed.

I was there last Thanksgiving. We had a great time. The city seemed pretty low key. I think most pools will be closed and it won't be "pool weather" anyway. Not sure where you're from, but late November in the high desert is usually chilly weather. If you want a traditional Thanksgiving dinner, the Review-Journal typically creates a big list of all the different options at various hotels/casinos that can be found on their website starting in early November.

The seasonal pools will be closed - they close around mid October when the weather starts to turn regularly cooler. Some hotels have pools that are open all year (heated during the winter) and some properties with seasonal pools have agreements with neighboring properties that their guests can go use the other properties pool... but on that note: during winter months the pools are usually pretty quiet and there are no attendants checking keys or lifeguards on duty or anything like that, so for a lot of places you could probably just walk in and hang out at their pool if you wanted.

For crowds: this question comes up every year and there are always a few people that say its not busy, but I think that depends where you are staying and if you are just looking at the casino or not: Wednesday night it usually starts getting busier as people are arriving and there are lots of families so that might be why the casinos themselves don't seem that busy, but there are still quite a few people there.

If you are going to buy any souvenirs or stuff like that quite a few of the stores in the hotels, including their gift shops and logo wear stores, have Black Friday sales as well.

Most buffets will have a premium surcharge ($5-20 per person extra, depends on the property) for Thanksgiving dinner and they usually keep that up the whole long weekend... plus most buffets are going to be very busy (1-2+ hour wait) on Thanksgiving itself, even some of the properties far off from The Strip.

I haven't been before, but I would say it'll be a little more low key. Although, i've been on 4 different trips this year, every trip it was a zoo! I think the crowds are just picking up in general... but Thanksgiving is definitely a holiday you would want to spend at home.. I would think. Since it's not a religious one.

I've gone on Christmas numerous times, it's pretty much business as usual. The only thing we've run into is "special" restaurant menus.

 

We go around 4-6 times every year including every year on Thanksgiving and find it to be average to busy every year.

 

I go every year TG week. Early part of the week is quiet, then wed it picks up through the weekend.

 

I am flying in Monday of Thanksgiving week and checking out Wed., the day before Thanksgiving. (LOL, I am concerned I might miss some great Black Friday week specials on Amazon, so I am taking my Kindle tablet with me!) I am hoping it is quiet enough at Aria those days that I may get an upgrade without too much problem. Also chose the first part of the week so some of MyVegas rewards would be good and not blacked out. AND hoping there won't be too much competition on the MLife Slot Tournament.

 

I've gone to Las Vegas on the Thanksgiving weekend for the last couple of years. Mostly by coincidence. Its easier to use FF points for some reason.
The crowds on the Thursday and Friday aren't bad. They do pick up a little Friday night and Saturday but drop off again on Sunday. Compared to other weeks I've been in October - December, it does seem less crowded.
One year, one of the pools at Caesar's was still open because the weather was unseasonable warm. But usually, they're all closed.

 

I go the day after Thanksgiving for a 5-day trip every year. It's always pretty nuts on that Friday -- as best I can tell, everyone in Southern California gets drunk at Thanksgiving dinner and decides to head to Vegas the next morning. It get significantly quieter by Sunday night, and Monday is pretty dead. That Monday is also when casinos start bigger projects; I remember a couple years ago, that was when Aria closed Bar Moderno for its renovation into Lift Bar and also shut down a big chunk of the casino floor to change out the carpets.

We always go either Friday or Saturday after turkey day. This year coming out on Sat. morning leaving Wisc. at 6:00 a.m. It seems like alot of people come for the long weekend. Always a lot of traffic.
