I just got back from visiting my in-laws in Chicago and, holy crap, there are slot machines absolutely everywhere in Illinois now. Basically, any restaurant with a liquor license can have slot machines now. I wonder what this means for Vegas once this practice spreads to other states.

We live in a rural county and they have exploded in every little hamlet. Beaty salon are even going after licenses. Personally, I think it makes our towns trashy.

Nothing. Absolutely nothing. The people that are most interested in these places wouldn't bother traveling to Vegas much anyway.

I played in one for about 10 minutes this week. The nicest one I have ever played in so far. It's 5 multi game units (which are about the exact same ones as all the others) had a 91.41% return won $66,700 from players in August. It got $5 from me this week playing 6/5 Super DDB for one quarter (96.47%). The riverboat casinos are more interesting by a long shot. And Vegas...well...it's wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy better.

And I assume your inlaws aren't in Chicago proper, lithium. They are banned there, and any other city that specifically forbade them.

Yeah ... nobody needs to get excited about the wide spread of slot machines in these Illinois properties. We have them all around us in the suburbs of Chicago. HOWEVER ... be forewarned ... almost all of these properties are limited to only 5 multi-games machines (including video poker) ... and the payback percentages are AWFUL. Potential players would be much better off just going to one of the several "regular" casinos in Illinois.

I think Illinois is a cautionary tale. The law was poorly conceived and there are more slots on slots routes than in our casinos. No one is going to try to copy this exactly. But for states that do try it, there are several corporations that have made a business of it. Dotty's has even moved in. This will be part of the reason Chicago may never have a casino.

The Rivers is probably the closest to the city line, but it sucks! They have a shuttle from the Blue Line station. I made the mistake of trying it a couple of years ago. :(

The best in the area that I've found is the Horseshoe Hammond. They have free shuttles from some of the downtown hotels. It's HUGE and has a great selection of the lower limit machines.

I don't really get the point of playing slots if you aren't at a casino. The local juke joint isn't going to give comp drinks or meals. The only entertainment will be watching people who had a little too much wine at dinner get into public arguments in the dining area or watching a really bad local KISS cover band mess up "Strutter" badly. I think I'll stick to Vegas and AC.

Yes, I live in IL. There are several local restaurants, bars, and stand alone businesses like 'Lucy' that have slot machines. I usually spend only $1 after enjoying eating at the local chinese buffet. I usually win a little bit. Once it was enough in winnings to pay for my dinner.

Alcohol cannot be comped in IL (or California, and many other states.)

The VP pay tables in IL bars are horrific, not really meant for anything other than drop by/hit and run play.

Last July my uncle took my cousin/his son and i to the American Legion in Fairfield, IL. They had four VP machines! Lousy pay tables so I did not play any of them.
