What happens when you win say $10,000.00 or more?

I've never won more than $2,000 in a day but I've always been curious. I've seen people win big and request a certain amount in a check. Have you hit it big? How did they handle it? Any special treatment after you won?

When I hit it big, I'd like to get at least 3/4 of it in a check and the rest in cash to play with.

Getting read to hit it big this trip and I just want to be prepared.

 

Most casinos will pay you in whatever manner you request. I have requested a check on two occasions with no problem. I have also heard of people requesting part cash and part check.

 

Last December I got an 8K VP jackpot. I took the cash. Three days later I hit another 8K jackpot. I requested a check this time to avoid being subjected to a CTR if depositing 10K or more.

it's basically a round file item unless the IRS wants to prove a Reco case, you can take out a million bucks worth of CTRs
and the IRS won't question your tax return unless they're already looking at you for a case

It's not such a big deal if you've already got W2Gs reporting your jackpots, but if you made >10K from playing the tables you may want to avoid them just so the government doesn't know about your winnings.

I was lucky enough to hit a 10K jackpot. I got paid in cash and was able to bring the entire amount home and deposit it ...learning that you actually have to be one cent over 10K to generate a CTR. As far as special treatment? Not at MSS. The entire slot crew team came out to pay me and they asked if they could use my picture for their promos, but that's about it.

 

I would like to have the dilemma of wondering what to do.

Probably $5K in cash and the other check to be sure I go home with something.

That $5K would definitely be put to good use.

 

I got 40k from a slot jackpot once, at my local casino. They asked me how I wanted it. I said cash, and then they took me to a private cage to pay me in privacy. I stuck the 4 stacks in my waistband, got my w2g, gambled a little bit more, and then drove home. They also asked if I wanted a picture taken with the slot...i said hell no!

Biggest single win was I think something like $10k. Took cash. Guard was not far away for awhile, just in case while I kept playing.

One night I hit multiple handpays inside a half hour and had about $14k on me. Stuff each one in a different pocket. And, before night was over, emptied most of my pockets - LOL!
